Walk-in greenhouse vs mini greenhouse

Updated: October 2026

A four-tier rack and a walk-in tent share one amazon.co.uk word, and the floor plans do not overlap. This walk-in greenhouse vs [mini greenhouse](/hub/raised-beds-greenhouses-and-compost/mini-greenhouse) page is a 45 cm rack against a tent you step into. The rows are on the [greenhouse comparison](/hub/raised-beds-greenhouses-and-compost/greenhouse). Products Compared used the amazon.co.uk listings, not a lab test. The two shapes in this set

A tiered mini is a zip cover over shelves. The small DIVCHI is 50 × 45 × 130 cm at £17.29. The extra-wide DIVCHI is 105 × 45 × 160 cm at £33.29, and it is still 45 cm deep. The Bamworld is a three-tier wood frame at £22.99, with details that say 32 × 16 × 44 cm and bullets that say shelves 22 inches wide. You reach in. You do not stand inside. A walk-in here is a height claim, not a room. The heyfurni and the narrow VOUNOT are both 143 × 73 × 195 cm, a corridor one person wide. The squares are the floors you can turn on: Jungle Stone and the square VOUNOT around 143 to 145 cm and 195 cm high, and the twelve-shelf Ohuhu at 145 × 145 × 195 cm.

What fits on the shelves

A rack is for trays and short pots. Bamworld reviews say two seed trays fit and big pots do not. The small DIVCHI's 45 cm depth is the same limit, though that listing prints no tray count. The RHS says mini plastic boxes with shelves suit seedlings, and that aubergines, peppers, and tomatoes fit only with careful temperature control, because the air volume is small. Shelves that suit March shade the floor in June. Our squares arrive full: ten shelves on the Jungle Stone, eight on the square VOUNOT, twelve on the Ohuhu. People remove shelves when plants outgrow the gap. A four-tier with the shelves out is still about 45 cm deep and 130 or 160 cm high. It does not become a tomato house.

Weight, wind, and where it can stand

Both shapes are light, and the walk-in is the larger sail. The small DIVCHI's stated weight is 200 g, which is not reconciled with the frame, and reviews say it blows over without a wall or a weight. The Bamworld states no peg kit, and one review asks for garden staples. Extra-wide DIVCHI reviews use rocks in side pockets. A 195 cm walk-in catches more wind. The Jungle Stone lists eight stakes, four ropes and a skirt, and reviews still call it light. Price does not sort the types. The narrow VOUNOT is £33.49 and the extra-wide rack is £33.29. On a balcony, the rack is the shape you can weight without pretending you have soil, if the lease allows it and you do not drill. A 145 cm square is a poor sail for a rail.

Which to buy

Buy the rack for trays in a small footprint, if you can weight the base. Buy the square walk-in if you need to step in or grow past a shelf. Do not expect one listing to do both. The awkward middle is the 73 cm corridor: a walk-in title, and no room to turn. A 45 cm rack with the shelves removed is still a rack. A sheltered corner and a stack of trays point to the tiered mini. A metre and a half of fence, with somewhere to tie a rope, points to a square tent. If you have neither the weight nor the tie, buy neither yet.

Common questions

Can I stand in a four-tier greenhouse?
No. The small DIVCHI is 130 cm high and 45 cm deep. The extra-wide is 160 cm high and still 45 cm deep. You reach through the zip. Standing room here means a square of about 143 cm, or a tomato house, and even those have limits.
Is a 73 cm deep walk-in actually walk-in?
Only as a corridor. The heyfurni and the narrow VOUNOT are 143 × 73 × 195 cm. You can stand. You cannot work the way a 145 cm square allows. The Ohuhu at 170 cm by 77 cm has a UK review that puts an adult on their knees. Read the depth before the title.
Which one holds more seed trays?
The racks are built for trays. The 105 cm DIVCHI gives more width than the 50 cm one. Bamworld reviews say two trays on a shelf. A square holds more shelves, for pots as well as trays, until you remove them for tall plants. More shelves is not more floor.
Can I grow tomatoes in the tiered one if I remove shelves?
Only as a short, narrow cover. The RHS limits tomatoes in a small plastic box because the air volume is small. A 130 cm rack does not become a 195 cm tent when the shelves come out. Cordon height is the tomato page.
Which is harder to anchor?
The walk-in, because it is a taller sail, even with pegs in the box. The rack is awkward in another way: several state no peg kit, so you start with weight. Neither is secure on pegs alone. Paving needs weight. The anchor page has the steps.
Which is better on a balcony?
The tiered rack, if you can weight it and the lease allows it without drilling. A square walk-in needs a tie a balcony may not allow. If fixings are forbidden, a weight on the bottom shelf is the option that does not need a hole.
Is the more expensive one always the walk-in?
No. A narrow walk-in here is £33.49 and an extra-wide rack is £33.29. The £99.00 VegTrug row is a planter cover, not a walk-in. A dearer rack can still be 45 cm deep. Measure first, then look at the price.
