Best portable electric heater

Updated: October 2026

You want one name for a plug-in heater and one cheaper name, and a round-up that praises a model we do not list will not settle the basket in front of you. This is the best portable electric heater argument for the twelve listings in the [portable electric heater comparison](/hub/portable-heaters/portable-electric-heater). The Products Compared editorial team set the roles on 16 October 2026 from stated voltage, tip-over lines, thermostats and review volume. It is not a Which? lab. If you buy through our links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The top pick is the gold Dreo Atom 316. The best value is the Amazon Basics DQ075-UK. The full checklist is the [buying guide](/hub/portable-heaters/portable-electric-heater/sub/portable-electric-heater-buying-guide).

What best means on this page

Best here means a UK voltage line, a stated tip-over switch, a thermostat and a large review count. It does not mean the highest star from the smallest sample, or the lowest shelf price. A GOV.UK report on a different ASIN says a marketplace heater’s plug failed BS 1363. That product is not in this folder. If you need oscillation, a bathroom rating, or heat after switch-off, skip both roles below.

Top pick

The top pick is the gold Dreo Atom 316, ASIN B0C9D4KL9D, at about £49.99, with 4.6 from 10,466 reviews. It states 1500 W, a thermostat from 5°C to 35°C, a 12-hour timer, fan-only, and AC 220–240 V 50 Hz. The title names a remote, tip-over protection and overheat protection. At 1.38 kg it is a desk or bedside tower, not a panel you wheel across a living room. Skip it if you need the heat to sweep the room. This title does not claim oscillation. Skip it for a bathroom: no IP rating is stated on any row here. The components line names the heater and a manual, and a UK review of a November 2023 unit had no remote, so check the box. The white Atom 316 is about £42.49 and also 4.6, but its file has no voltage line, and a review says that version has no remote. The 34 dB line is the manufacturer’s claim.

Best value

The best value is the Amazon Basics DQ075-UK, ASIN B07D3DZ1XV, at about £9.90. It states 1800 W, 230 V, an adjustable thermostat, low, high and fan-only, a tip-over switch and overheat protection, with 4.5 from 430 reviews. UK reviewers describe fast heat for a bedroom or a boiler breakdown, and a base switch that cuts out if it tips. Skip it for a bathroom. The bullet says it is not for bathrooms or high-humidity areas. Skip it if you want a timer or a remote, because neither is stated. High is noisy for some reviewers, so it is a poor all-night heater. That routine is on the bedroom page. The £9 Warmlite WL44002 has 4.0 from 14,122 reviews and 240 V. UK reviews say it has no tilt switch. The £14.99 WL44001 also leaves tip-over unstated.

What not to crown

Do not crown a 5.0 from three or six reviews. The JVISION is about £23.98 with three reviews, and the Elovaris is about £34.19 with six. Both omit a voltage line. The DR-HSH014 states 70° oscillation, a remote and 2000 W, and its specification line says 120 V. The DR-HSH003 has 4.5 from 6,821 reviews and a 2-prong plug in a bullet. The Ballu panel is the quiet fanless option, at about £149.99 and 230 V, and tip-over is not clearly stated. Oil-filled radiators are not in this folder. That choice is on the versus page.

Common questions

Which heater is the top pick here, and why not the white one?
The top pick is the gold Dreo Atom 316 at about £49.99, with 4.6 from 10,466 reviews and a stated 220–240 V line. The white Atom 316 shares the star average, but its file has no voltage line and a review says that version has no remote. Skip the gold model if you need oscillation or a bathroom rating.
Which is the best value under £15?
The Amazon Basics DQ075-UK at about £9.90. It states 230 V, 1800 W and a tip-over switch, with 4.5 from 430 reviews. The Warmlite WL44001 at about £14.99 does not state tip-over. Prefer Amazon Basics unless you need a timer, which this listing does not have. It is also not for bathrooms.
Why not the £9 Warmlite?
The WL44002 is about £9, 240 V, and 4.0 from 14,122 reviews. Two UK reviews say there is no tilt switch, and the title states overheat protection only. A heater that keeps running if it is knocked over is a poor saving next to the Amazon Basics. If you already own it, use it only while you are in the room.
Is the £75 oscillating tower better?
Only if you need 70° oscillation and you have confirmed the plug. The DR-HSH014 at about £74.99 states 2000 W, a remote and ECO from 5°C to 35°C, and the specification line says 120 V. The DR-HSH003 at the same price states 220 V and a 2-prong plug. Oscillation helps a living room. It does not repair a voltage line that does not match UK mains.
Does a 5.0 from three reviews win?
No. The JVISION is 5.0 from three reviews and the Elovaris is 5.0 from six. Both lack a stated voltage. A handful of short reviews cannot show a second season. This page ranks the gold Atom 316 and the Amazon Basics ahead of them because the review counts are large and the safety lines are written on the listing.
Who should skip the gold Atom 316?
Skip it if you need the airflow to sweep, because oscillation is not claimed, or if you wanted a bathroom heater, because no IP rating is stated. Skip it if you will not spend about £50. Check the box for the remote. One November 2023 UK review did not include one.
