Revolving punch pliers buying guide

Updated: 21 October 2026

You have a belt that is one hole short, and the amazon.co.uk title says heavy duty without six diameters. This revolving punch pliers buying guide is the order to use before you sort by stars: sizes, then the box, then spring or lock, then the price. The ten kept listings are on the [revolving punch pliers comparison](/hub/pliers/revolving-punch-pliers). Prices and ratings were taken from those listings on 19 October 2026 by the Products Compared editorial team. Nothing was punched in a lab. Read the six diameters first

The figure that changes the purchase is the set of hole sizes in millimetres. Most kits here list 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4 and 4.5 mm. That covers a watch strap and many everyday belts. It does not include 5 mm. If the tongue is closer to 5 mm, the smaller tube will pinch the hole you already wear. Only Knipex 90 70 220, at £17.52, and S&R 274.100.240, at £13.48, print a 5 mm step. The Diyife kits, Gunpla, XOOL and BGS 75835 stop at 4.5 mm. DSL, at £8.99, uses round holes at 3, 3.5 and 4 mm, plus flats and an oval, and it has no 2 mm punch. Baysihin says six sizes from 2.5 mm to 5 mm and does not list each step.

Spares, spring, and lock

A spare in the box is worth more than a second colour of the same plier. The orange Diyife includes six spare heads, five copper pads, a steel ruler, a grinding rod, a file and a lockable clasp. The blue Diyife includes two spare plates, a screwdriver and a ruler. The black listing names two extra plates at about £1 more and shares the blue review pool. Knipex puts only the pliers in the box. S&R’s components line says “perforated whistles”, the working pipes, not a second set. BGS states no spare kit. Baysihin’s included-components field says NO. A lock is for the drawer. Knipex, S&R, XOOL, the orange Diyife and Baysihin state one. Do not assume the blue handles click shut. An opening spring is stated on Knipex and S&R. A double-lever line is a slogan, not a measured force.

Reach and thickness

These listings do not print a jaw depth. Maun’s 35 mm figure belongs to its 2230, which is not an ASIN here, and its effort claim belongs to model 2233. A US craft guide’s rule of thumb is about 2 mm of thickness. If the first squeeze only marks the surface, stop. One UK S&R note of leather called 4 mm is one belt, not a rating on the tool. A hole in the middle of a panel is a drive punch and a mallet, the split on the revolving punch versus drive punch page. A buckle slot is the wrong shape for a round tube. No British Standard for this hobby plier turned up, and none of these listings shows a UKCA mark. BGS asks for gloves and goggles. The S&R manual asks for safety glasses and no children at the bench.

What the pounds are buying

On 19 October 2026 the shelves run from BGS 75835 at £5.47, with 4.2 from 582 and no spare kit, to Knipex at £17.52. The blue Diyife is £7.99 with 4.6 from 10,058 ratings. That count is also on the black listing, so it is one pool. The orange kit is £9.99 with its own 4.6 from 3,194. XOOL’s 17,629 reviews do not fix a stiff wheel or add a 5 mm tube. If the tool arrives blunt or incomplete, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 asks whether the goods are of satisfactory quality against the description and the price. Who each plier fits is on the best revolving punch pliers page. Where to place the hole is on the belt holes page.

Common questions

Are all six-size punches 2 mm to 4.5 mm?
No. The blue, black and orange Diyife, Gunpla, XOOL and BGS list 2 mm to 4.5 mm. Knipex 90 70 220 and S&R 274.100.240 list a 5 mm tube instead of 4.5 mm. DSL starts at 3 mm round and adds flat and oval heads. Baysihin says “from 2.5 mm to 5 mm” and does not list the steps. Match the printed numbers to the hole you already have.
Do I need spare plates in the box?
You need them if you expect more than one belt, or if a tube arrives shy of the pad. The orange Diyife puts six spare heads and five copper pads in the box at £9.99. The blue Diyife puts in two spare plates at £7.99. Knipex and S&R do not include a second set. A grinding rod dresses an edge. It does not replace a bent tube.
Is 5 mm only on Knipex and S&R in this set?
Yes, among listings that print each diameter. Knipex states 5.0 mm and S&R states 5 mm. The other round heads stop at 4.5 mm. Baysihin mentions 5 mm inside an unlisted range, which is not a printed step. Le Prevo’s drive punches from 5 mm upward are a mallet tool, not another revolving head in this table.
Why does DSL not start at 2 mm?
The smallest round punch on the DSL listing is 3 mm. The rest of that head is two flats and one oval, which is why it is in the set. If your strap needs 2 mm or 2.5 mm, use a kit that prints those sizes. If your hole is the 7×4 mm oval, DSL is the only match here, and the shaped head can still foul a wide belt.
Does a 4.6 from 10,058 apply twice for two Diyife colours?
No. The blue ASIN and the black ASIN show the same 10,058 count, the same best-seller rank and the same review titles in this capture. Black is £8.99 against £7.99 for blue. The orange Diyife’s 3,194 reviews are a separate file. Count the shared pool once.
Is there a British Standard I should look for?
Not one that these listings cite, and none turned up for this hobby plier. Do not treat a missing UKCA mark as a hidden fail or as a pass. If the tool is wrong on arrival, satisfactory quality sits under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Gloves and eye protection come from the BGS page and the S&R manual, not from a kite mark on the handle.
