Best decking oil

Updated: October 2026

You want one tin for a timber deck, and you want a reason to leave the other two on the shelf. Best decking oil, in this set, means the best fit among three amazon.co.uk extracts we kept, not a UK champion and not a lab winner. The full field list, including pack, dry time, and slip line, stays on the [terrace oil comparison](/hub/paints-and-varnishes/terrace-oil). Osmo Decking Oil 006 is the tinted decking oil. Blanchon is the 5 litre matt terrace oil. Owatrol Deks Olje D1 is the clear saturator. Peter F. wrote this on 16 October 2026. We did not coat a deck. What best means in this set

A star average is not a weathering trial. Osmo shows 4.7 from 19 ratings. Deks Olje D1 shows 4.6 from 216 ratings. Blanchon has no customer-review line in the extract. The products are aimed at different jobs. Shelf prices are Osmo at £72.31 for 2.5 litres, Blanchon at £112.96 for 5 litres, and Deks at £41.79 for 1 litre. If you are still choosing the type, start with the decking oil buying guide.

Osmo 006 when you want a tinted decking oil

Buy Osmo Decking Oil 006 when you want a coloured decking oil and the listing’s coat sequence is what you intend to follow. It is 2.5 litres, Bangkirai satin. The extract says two coats first, then one recoat, no sanding, and a 12-hour dry. That is the only kept listing that prints both a coat count and a dry time. It is the top pick here for that job. Skip it if you need a published UK slip value. Species waits are on decking oil for hardwood.

Blanchon when you want 5 litres of matt terrace oil

Buy Blanchon when you will use most of a 5 litre matt medium-oak oil on a terrace, or on decks plus gates, cladding, screens, or fencing. At £112.96 it is about £22.59 a litre, the lowest rate in this set, which is why it carries the best value label. Skip it if you need UK reviews or a dry time. The title says White and medium oak. Confirm the shade first.

Deks Olje D1 when you will saturate and wipe

Buy Deks Olje D1 when you will feed the wood until it refuses more oil, then wipe the excess. The pack is 1 litre at £41.79, with 4.6 from 216 ratings. Owatrol’s first saturation is about 1–4 m² per litre, not the listing’s 8–12. Skip it if you wanted a colour, or on thermo-treated wood. Cloths and coats are on how to apply decking oil.

Common questions

Which of these three should I buy for a timber deck?
Buy Osmo 006 if you want a tinted decking oil with two first coats and a 12-hour dry printed on the listing, and you accept 19 ratings. Buy Blanchon if you will use most of 5 litres of matt medium-oak terrace oil and you can live with no UK star line. Buy Deks Olje D1 if you will saturate and wipe clear oil on dense hardwood, furniture, or a boat deck, and you will not price the first coat at 8–12 m² per litre. If none of those sentences is your job, none of these tins is the best decking oil for you.
Who should skip the Osmo tin?
Skip it if you need a UK slip number, if you wanted a clear oil, or if you are treating one yellow balau review, several recoats a year, as the schedule for your own boards. Skip it if the deck is fresh bangkirai or fresh pressure-treated pine and you plan to oil this weekend. The maker’s weathering waits are longer than a single dry day. Also skip the nonsense cells: 100 volts and a huge dimension are not properties of this oil.
Is the Blanchon tin white or medium oak?
The colour attribute and the model name say medium oak. The title also contains the word White. That clash is unresolved on the extract we stored. Do not assume white pigment from a title token, and do not assume the French model name has been translated cleanly on every marketplace field. If the shade matters, ask the seller to confirm medium oak before you rely on 5 litres of the wrong colour.
Is Deks Olje a deck oil or a boat oil?
Both descriptions exist, and they are not equal on this page. Owatrol’s own UK shop lists timber decking among the uses, with a first coat around 1–4 m² per litre. The amazon.co.uk extract we compared stresses parquet, garden furniture, and a boat hull, and the rank is in boat cleaners. Use it on a deck only if you accept the saturator method. Do not buy it as a tinted two-coat decking oil. That job is the Osmo tin.
Will a clear oil keep the new colour?
No. Osmo UK says clear teak decking oil gives little UV protection, and the FAQ on clear decking oil 007 says it does not offer any UV protection. Deks is clear as well. A UV-resistant feature line on the Deks extract does not overturn that. If slowing the grey is the point, use a coloured decking oil such as Osmo 006, and still expect maintenance when the wear shows. New hardwood colour is not locked in by a clear tin.
Does 4.7 from 19 beat 4.6 from 216?
No. The higher average sits on the smaller sample. Nineteen ratings cannot outvote 216 ratings, and neither number is a slip test or a two-year weathering trial. Blanchon cannot enter that comparison because the extract has no star line. Choose on timber, tint, and pack. Use the stars only as a check that other UK buyers have left a record, which Deks has and Blanchon, in this extract, has not.
Is the non-slip line a reason to pick Blanchon?
No. The listing says the oil was tested to NF EN 13036-4 and prints no result. A UK low-slip line is usually a pendulum test value of 36 or above under BS EN 16165, which replaced BS 7976. Grooves and a coat of oil are not that test. If a workplace or a public walkway needs a documented slip assessment, that is a specialist measurement, not a sentence on a French method.
