Paint spray gun buying guide: drive, DIN, and plug

Updated: 21 October 2026

You are about to coat a fence panel, a shed door or a set of garden chairs, and amazon.co.uk is offering a dozen paint spray guns that do not share a drive. This paint spray gun buying guide is the checklist before the basket: which machine you can power, whether the tin will pass a DIN-second limit, which nozzle and cup match the job, and whether the plug is a UK 3-pin. The [paint spray gun comparison](/hub/painting-supplies/paint-spray-gun) ranks those twelve listings. Peter F. took shelf prices from amazon.co.uk on 19 October 2026, from about £29.99 to about £99.99, and did not spray any gun. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Four drives, not one spray gun

The first check is whether you can run the drive at the house. Most rows are mains guns you fill and hold: DEKO, DEKOPRO, Tilswall, NEU MASTER, Kynjet and TOPALL. The Wagner W 100 is corded too, at 280 W. A hose turbine takes the motor off the wrist. On the 19 October snapshot the Wagner fence and decking sprayer was about £60, with 460 W, a 1400 ml pot and a 1.8 m hose. YFFU states UK mains. The BENTOHKLE A610 was about £74.99 and asks for 3.0–3.9 cfm at 2.0–3.5 bar. Without a compressor it will not coat a fence.

Viscosity before wattage

DIN seconds are the time a sample takes to empty a 4 mm DIN 53211 flow cup. A higher number is thicker. Wagner’s UK page for the W 100 stops at 90 DIN-seconds and 0–110 ml/min. The amazon.co.uk row was about £55, with 4.2 stars from 3,289 ratings, and it does not print that DIN figure. The manual excludes wall paint without the Perfect Spray logo, and flammable materials. Cheaper rows often print 100 DIN/s as a listing claim. The YFFU bullets claim 120 DIN-S. None of those ceilings was tested here, and wattage does not prove a thick tin will atomise. Ronseal says standard Fence Life must not go in a sprayer. Which fence tins are sold for a gun is on the paint spray gun for fences page.

Nozzle, cup and hose

Thin stain and varnish want about 1.0–1.8 mm. Heavier coatings sit nearer 2.5–3.0 mm. That is a rule of thumb for this batch, and a larger hole will not rescue a coating the maker has banned. The Kynjet comes with 2.5 mm fitted and spares at 1.0 mm, 1.8 mm and 3.0 mm. DEKO ASIN B0H1MK1KLF, at about £49.99, prints two nozzle lists, so check the box. TOPALL, at about £34.99, stops at 2.5 mm and states no DIN-second maximum. An 800 ml W 100 cup means more stops on a fence. The Wagner fence gun puts 1400 ml on a 1.8 m hose. Which hose gun leads is on the best paint spray gun page.

Plug, duty and conflicts on the listing

A domestic kit with a flex needs a correctly fitted BS 1363 plug, or a compliant conversion plug and a BS 1362 fuse, under regulation 35 of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016. UK mains are 230 V. Only three saved rows state a UK 3-pin plug: DEKO B0H1MK1KLF, DEKO B0H1MPP7BL and DEKOPRO B0GXVGDM8X. The Wagner fence listing states 240 V and leaves the plug type blank. A Schuko plug in the photos is the wrong fit for a British socket. DEKO says not to spray for more than 20 minutes continuously. One UK review describes the motor smoking after half a wall, a quality point under section 22 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015. B0H1MK1KLF prints both 1200 ml and 800 ml.

Common questions

Do I need a compressor, a mains gun or a cordless gun?
You need the drive you can power. A mains or hose gun needs a UK socket. The ToCzernobgol listing at about £99.99 claims about 20–25 minutes from each 4000 mAh pack, and some reviews mention a 220 V plug, so confirm the box is the battery gun. The BENTOHKLE A610 needs 3.0–3.9 cfm at 2.0–3.5 bar. Without a compressor it will not coat the fence.
Which nozzle suits stain, and which suits a thicker fence coating?
About 1.0–1.8 mm suits thin stain and varnish, and about 2.5–3.0 mm suits a heavier coating. The Kynjet includes 1.0 mm, 1.8 mm, 2.5 mm and 3.0 mm. TOPALL stops at 2.5 mm. The DEKO 1000 W page lists two nozzle sets, so check the box. A larger hole does not make a brush-only fence paint legal for a sprayer.
Is 800 ml enough, or do I want 1200–1400 ml or a hose?
An 800 ml cup, as on the Wagner W 100, is enough for a chair or a gate and means more refills along a fence. A 1200–1400 ml pot covers more panel between stops and weighs more if you hold the motor. The Wagner fence gun and the YFFU put 1400 ml and 1300 ml on a 1.8 m hose. Use the hose on a long run and the smaller cup on furniture.
Why does one DEKO listing say 1200 ml and 800 ml?
On DEKO ASIN B0H1MK1KLF the tank line says 1200 ml and the unit count says 800 ml, both on the 19 October 2026 page at about £49.99. The other DEKO, B0H1MPP7BL, is the separate 800 ml gun at about £42.99. Do not merge the two listings. Buy the capacity you can accept if only one of the two numbers is right.
Does an airless title make it a pump, and what should I skip?
No. The Kynjet title includes airless, and the bullets describe fan patterns with no pump pressure, so treat it as a fan gun. Skip the BENTOHKLE A610 when you have no compressor. Skip two-pack isocyanate in a closed garage: HSE expects a spray booth and air-fed breathing protection with an assigned protection factor of at least 20. This batch has no airless pump for a flat of emulsion.
