Atlas safety shoes size

Updated: 21 October 2026

You wear a UK 10 in a trainer, the title says W10, and you are about to treat those letters as your size. Atlas safety shoes size marks in this file do not work that way. W10 is a width code, EU 40 is one length, and none of the three amazon.co.uk listings prints a UK size. The [Atlas safety shoes comparison](/hub/occupational-safety/atlas-safety-shoes) is the three-row shortlist. This page is the fit check. It does not choose S1 or S3, and it does not name a winner. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Peter F. used the maker’s size guide and the fit notes in this file, and did not measure a last.

W10 is not UK size 10

On the S1 listing, B00AZ0Q9L4, the title contains W10 next to EU 40. Atlas’s own size guide and its multi-width page define the letters. Width 10 is the catalogue’s standard width. The maker describes it as a generous, foot-friendly fit, already cut more generously than some rivals, in the maker’s words. It is not UK size 10, and it is not an extra-wide fitting. Widths 12, 13, and 14 are the steps for a wider foot. Width 12 is the maker’s step when the foot is much wider than that standard. If you order width 10 because your trainer says UK 10, you have read a width as a length. Measure both feet in the socks you wear for work, later in the day, and use the longer foot. The class check that should happen before any of this measuring is the Atlas safety shoes buying guide. A correct width does not turn a missing S3 into a site boot.

What EU 40 covers

Atlas’s size guide puts EU 40 at a foot length of 248–253 mm. For width 10 at that size, the same page gives a ball circumference of 91–105 mm. That is the maker’s table, on the maker’s German-shop size guide. It is not a UK fitting study, and it is not a conversion printed on the amazon.co.uk title. The S1 shoe in this comparison states 40 EU and does not state a UK size. If your longer foot is outside 248–253 mm, this listing has no other size in the title. You cannot click a UK 9 on the same row. Other Atlas models on UK trade sites sometimes print a UK size beside an EU size. RS UK has listed a Flash 3300 as UK 11 and EU 46. Those pairs belong to those models. They are not a licence to relabel this EU 40 as a UK size. The best Atlas safety shoes page is where the listings are named. This page only says which of them even states a size.

Runs large, with a limit

Atlas’s size guide says that, compared with many sports shoes, Atlas can run slightly large, so some people need one size smaller. That is the maker’s sentence. It is not a promise that every foot should drop a size, and it is not a result from a British trial. On the S1 listing, reviewers marked Germany or Spain often say the shoe runs large. Some describe a roomy forefoot. The review notes include about 1 cm of spare length, a smaller size when you are between sizes, and one wide foot that was still tight when the buyer did not size up. Those texts are not United Kingdom reviews. The women’s listing, at £92.17, has the same kind of note from texts marked Germany, Italy, or Spain: the shoe often runs large, and a smaller size fitted. It does not print a size at all, so you cannot apply the 248–253 mm line to a number on the title. The GX 130 title, at £84.06, has 4.2 from 5 ratings and no review text, so fit is unknown from this file. On the only listing that states a size, the range does not exist. EU 40 is the whole offer.

Insoles and a women’s last

A roomy forefoot in those non-UK texts is why some reviewers mention orthopaedic insoles. Atlas cites DGUV 112-191 for orthopaedic insoles. That is a German accident-insurance rule. It is not NHS approval and it is not an HSE sign-off. If you need a custom insole, the employer’s assessor or a clinician is the person who says whether the shoe still meets the class once the insole changes. A sole that has already split is a reason to stop wearing the pair and use the seller’s returns route, not a reason to pad it and carry on. The women’s title and the GX 130 title both sit on a women’s last in the way the pages describe them: the first by its title, the second by a Women’s department line. Trade sheets put GX 130 on a women’s last at about EU 35–43. That span is a catalogue note, not a size printed on B00AZ0MWU6, and this file does not convert it to UK sizes. The S1 listing is a unisex title in the Men’s department, one size, EU 40, width 10. Measure, compare with 248–253 mm and a 91–105 mm ball, and order only if both numbers agree.

Common questions

What does W10 mean?
W10 is Atlas’s width 10, the maker’s standard width, not UK size 10 and not an extra-wide fitting. The maker describes it as generous compared with some other shoes. Wider feet move to width 12, 13, or 14 on the maker’s multi-width system. The amazon.co.uk title that prints W10 does not itself define the letters. The definition is the maker’s size guide.
Is EU 40 a UK 6.5?
This listing does not say so. Atlas’s table puts EU 40 at a foot length of 248–253 mm. Other Atlas models on UK trade sites sometimes print a UK size beside an EU size, and those pairs belong to those models. They are not a conversion for the S1-W10 shoe in this file. Do not relabel EU 40 as a UK size the page does not print.
Do Atlas shoes run large?
The maker’s size guide says that, compared with many sports shoes, Atlas can run slightly large, so some people need one size smaller. Non-UK reviews on the S1 listing and the women’s listing often say the same. That is the maker’s note plus those texts. It is not a UK fitting study, and the GX 130 listing has no review text to add.
How do I measure for width 10?
Measure both feet in your work socks, later in the day, and use the longer foot. For EU 40, Atlas’s table uses 248–253 mm of length and, at width 10, a ball circumference of 91–105 mm. If the ball is wider than that band, width 10 is the wrong step and the maker’s next widths start at 12. This file only offers width 10 on the one listing that states it.
Is width 10 a wide fitting?
It is the standard fitting, not the wide one. The maker says width 10 is already cut more generously than some rivals, which is marketing as well as a size note. Width 12 is the step the maker describes for a much wider foot. Ordering width 10 to be safe on a very wide foot is how a standard last becomes a tight one.
What size is the women’s listing and the GX 130?
Neither amazon.co.uk title prints a size. The women’s shoe is £92.17 with no size run. The GX 130 title is £84.06 in the Women’s department, also with no size run. Catalogue sheets that put GX 130 at about EU 35–43 are not the Amazon title. Only the S1-W10 listing states a size, and that size is EU 40 alone.
Can I use my own insole?
A roomy shoe is not clearance for a custom insole. Atlas cites DGUV 112-191, which is a German accident-insurance rule, not NHS or HSE approval. If an insole changes the fit or the protection, ask the employer’s assessor or a clinician before you wear it for work. A sole that has split should go back through the seller’s returns route.
