Atlas safety shoes buying guide

Updated: 21 October 2026

An Atlas safety shoes buying guide has to reverse the usual order. The class the workplace named comes first, then the words on that amazon.co.uk title, then the last and the size, and only then the price. On 20 October 2026 the shelf prices are £84.06, £92.17, and £106.15, and only one kept listing prints S1. The [Atlas safety shoes comparison](/hub/occupational-safety/atlas-safety-shoes) is the three-row shortlist. This page is the order of checks. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Peter F. compared the listings with public UK guidance and did not lab-test the shoes.

What the workplace has to match

The first check is the assessment, not the logo. HSE’s PPE overview says protective equipment is supplied free of charge when the assessment still needs it, and the PPE FAQ points to section 9 of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, which stops a charge for equipment used only at work. From 6 April 2022 the duty also covers limb (b) workers. It does not cover the self-employed. HSENI repeats the same no-charge point for Northern Ireland, including agency workers who are employees. If you are an employee, a private order is not the way the duty is met. If you are self-employed, the price is yours, and the class on the job is still the class you have to match.

What S1, S1P, and S3 add

If the induction card names a code, that code wins over a familiar label. Plain S1 is a 200 joule toecap, a closed heel, antistatic properties, and heel energy absorption. It does not include a puncture-resistant midsole or a water-resistant upper. S1P adds that midsole when the floor is dry and nails are the extra risk. S3 adds a water-resistant upper and a cleated sole for wet or outdoor work. Steel, aluminium, and composite caps are all rated at 200 joules and 15 kN. The fuller split is on the S1 or S3 safety shoes page. On the 2022 edition of EN ISO 20345, SR replaces the older SRA, SRB, and SRC marks. Remember BS EN ISO 20345:2022+A1:2024, and read the year on the shoe you receive.

What these three titles do and do not say

Only one title prints a class. The S1-W10 shoe, B00AZ0Q9L4, says 20345 S1-W10, EU 40, at £106.15, with 4.6 from 798 ratings. The written reviews are marked Germany or Spain. They often say the shoe runs large, and they describe buckles, vents, and metal chips getting in. The product data have no S1P, no S3, and no puncture or waterproof line. The women’s title, B00KRE4QI6, is £92.17, with 4.6 from 313 ratings, and it does not print a class or a size. One review text says the sole holed within about two months, and another says the sole split at the heel after a year. That is review text, not a measured life. The GX 130 title, B00AZ0MWU6, is £84.06, with 4.2 from 5 ratings and no review text. It names the model and does not print S1, ESD, or SRC. A trade shelf at £119.61 excluding VAT is not this Amazon title. Width 10 belongs on the Atlas safety shoes size page, not in a guess from the letters W10.

Price and what you are accepting

A lower price with no class is the wrong buy if the permit asks for S1, S1P, or S3. Star lines do not prove a certificate. No file here shows a UKCA mark. A 4.6 from 798 ratings and a 4.2 from 5 ratings are samples of very different sizes, and neither sample is marked United Kingdom. If the paper says S1P, S3, nails, or a wet site, leave this set. Stay when the stated class, the stated size, and the job agree.

Common questions

Does the brand name mean S3?
No. Atlas sells more than one class, and S3 is a water-resistant upper plus puncture resistance and a cleated sole, not a logo. None of these three titles states S3 or S1P. If the induction asks for S3, this shortlist does not match it. You need a listing or an issued boot that prints the class the site named.
Who pays if work requires safety footwear?
For employees, and for limb (b) workers under the rules amended from 6 April 2022, suitable PPE is free when the assessment still needs it. Section 9 of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 stops a charge for PPE used only at work. The same no-charge point is repeated by HSENI for Northern Ireland. The duty does not cover the self-employed.
Is a GX 130 title the same as a catalogue S1 ESD shoe?
Not on this page. Catalogue and trade pages describe a GX 130 as a women’s S1 ESD SRC shoe, and one trade shelf was £119.61 excluding VAT. The amazon.co.uk title at £84.06 names GX 130 and does not print S1, ESD, or SRC. Keep those sources apart, and read the tongue label on the pair you receive.
Do star ratings prove the certificate?
No. The 4.6 scores sit on 798 and 313 ratings, and the GX 130 line is 4.2 from 5 ratings, with no review text. The written reviews in this file are marked Germany, Spain, or Italy, not the United Kingdom. None of that is a UKCA mark or an EN ISO 20345 certificate. Read the class on the shoe.
When should I leave this Amazon set?
Leave it when the paper asks for S1P or S3, when nails or standing water are part of the job, or when you need a size other than the single EU 40 on the S1 title. Also leave it if you need an ESD specification, because none of these Amazon titles prints ESD. Other Atlas styles exist outside this three-row file.
