Best non-contact voltage tester

Updated: 22 October 2026

Best non-contact voltage tester, on this page, means a fit: a loud dual-range pen with a large review count, a cheaper dual-range pen, a familiar UK brand, or a listing to skip because the evidence is thin. Peter F., editor for DIY & tools, compared the ten listings on 22 October 2026. There was no lab test. What best can mean on this page

Best here means a fit for a job, then the evidence on the listing. A line of 4.5 from 16,240 ratings is not the same evidence as 4.5 from 15. Shelf prices run from £5.99 to £13.99. GS38 still says these pens identify live equipment and do not prove it dead. The highest score is the top pick. The best features per pound, among pens with a usable review sample, is the best value.

Loud dual-range pens in this set

The top pick is Kaiweets at £10.99, 4.5 from 16,240 ratings. The title says HT100 and the model is HT101, part KW5023240. It states two AC windows, a buzzer, two AAA cells, a red screen above 90 V, and CAT III 1000 V with CAT IV 600 V as a claim. Reviews include a whole wall that read live. Skip it if you need one model name or proof a conductor is dead. The best value is the Aicevoos A1 at £7.99, 4.6 from 1,726, the same windows and no CAT line. One unit arrived with corroded cells, and another alarmed on a phone. VENLAB’s VD200 at £9.99, 4.5 from 5,221, uses red for nearer live and orange further away. Do not read orange as safe.

The familiar name and the thin listings

The C.K T2271A at £8.84, 4.2 from 422 reviews, is the familiar lamp-only stick: 70–1000 V, CAT IV 1000 V, and no buzzer. UK reviews say the lamp is hard to see in daylight. Pick it only where you can see the LED. Skip Astraveo at £8.85, 3.4 from five reviews, including a unit that would not switch on. Skip Yukesaky at £5.99, which has no review line, and Kioylmo at 4.5 from 15. BSIDE at £13.99 is the dial, and reviews say the 9 V cell was missing. MUFASHA at 4.4 from 31 lit up on wood, metal, and fabric in a camper try.

The pen that is not in the table

Fluke’s 1AC II and Volt Stick’s 230Y sit in a roughly £30 to £41 trade band and are not rows here. A dearer stick still only shows a live field. It does not let you skip a two-pole tester after isolation, and it is not a wall locator. Cars, campers, and doorbells are the 12 V page. The order of checks is how to use a non-contact voltage tester. Take the Kaiweets for the largest sample and read HT101 on the model line. Take the Aicevoos at £7.99 if a CAT line need not be printed. Take the C.K only where you can see the lamp.

Common questions

Is the Aicevoos the lower-priced dual-range pen, and what does it not print?
Yes. At £7.99 it is the cheapest dual-range pen in this comparison, with 12–1000 V AC and 48–1000 V AC, a buzzer, and a torch. It does not print CAT III or CAT IV. The listing says CE and double insulated. That gap is why it can be the best value without being the top pick. One review found corroded cells, so check them before you trust a silence.
Why would someone still choose the C.K if it does not beep?
Because they want the Carl Kammerling name, a 70–1000 V window, and a CAT IV 1000 V line, and they can see the red LED. The listing is £8.84 with 4.2 from 422 reviews. UK reviews say there is no sound and that the lamp fades in daylight. Choose it for a visual check you can watch. Do not choose it for a loft, a bright room, or a second sensitivity.
What should you skip when the review count is under 20?
Skip Yukesaky, which has no review line, Kioylmo at 4.5 from 15, and Astraveo at 3.4 from five, if you need evidence the pen works on arrival. Astraveo’s file includes a unit that would not switch on and false negatives. A high star line on a handful of ratings is not a settled record. MUFASHA at 31 reviews is less thin, and still far below the pens with thousands of ratings.
Is Fluke in this comparison?
No. Fluke’s 1AC II is a trade pen outside this comparison, with a stated 90–1000 V AC window, a beeper, a self-test, and CAT IV 1000 V. Named trade non-contact pens sat roughly between £30 and £41 on a best-seller snapshot. It remains a proximity indicator under GS38. It is not a row you can sort against the £10.99 Kaiweets on this table.
Why do the Kaiweets title and model number disagree?
The title says HT100. The specification model is HT101, and the manufacturer part is KW5023240. The score carries a small deduction for that clash. The features used for the top pick are the ones printed on the listing: two AC windows, a buzzer, a red screen above 90 V, two AAA cells, and a CAT line. Read the model field before you match a spare or a manual to the box.
