Cross line laser buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You have pencilled a shelf line in a British hallway and watched it climb towards the door frame. The amazon.co.uk listings in our set run from £18.69 to £154.00, and the titles all say self-levelling. This cross line laser buying guide is the order to use before the [cross line laser comparison](/hub/measuring-equipment/cross-line-laser): coverage first, then a comparable accuracy unit, then power and the stand. Colour, named roles, and setup sit on their own pages. Peter F. read these twelve listings on 16 October 2026. We did not run a lab test. What the line has to cover

A single cross throws one horizontal line and one vertical line in front of the tool, often as a fan of about 110 degrees. That covers one wall of sockets, a splashback, or a row of pictures. It does not wrap the room. Plumb dots transfer a point rather than lengthen the fan. The Bosch GCL 2-15, at £119.99, states two centred plumb points as well as the cross, which is the usual way to mark a downlight from the floor. A 360 degree plane is the other step up. The Huepar 703CG, at £144.32, states three 360 degree planes. The SAVSEC SV-Y04CG, at £75.99, states four and weighs 2.57 kg. Laser Levels Online treats a rotary plus a detector as the outdoor tool once the run reaches tens of metres. None of these twelve is that rotary.

Accuracy only when the unit matches

Read an accuracy line only when it names a distance. The Bosch GLL 2-10 and the GCL 2-15 both state ±0.3 mm/m. The Lusweimi kit states ±3 mm over 10 metres. The Huepar 703CG states ±3 mm at 10 m. The RockSeed listings state ±2.5 mm and do not say per metre. That is not ±0.3 mm/m. The DOVOH C2-120G and both Nikotek cubes print no numeric accuracy. Screwfix’s DeWalt DW088CG-XJ at £127.99 including VAT, with ±0.3 mm/m, is trade-counter context, not one of these ASINs. If you need that unit, shortlist the two red Bosch tools on the best cross line laser page.

Power, lock, and the stand

The Nikotek, RockSeed, Lusweimi, and both red Bosch tools use replaceable AA cells. The DOVOH states a 2600 mAh USB-C pack and eight hours. The Huepar 703CG states 6600 mAh. Most of these tools self-level within about ±4 degrees. The Huepar 703CG states 3.5 degrees, and the SAVSEC states ±3 degrees. Outside that window the line should flash. A flashing line is not a level you can mark. Manual mode locks the pendulum for a deliberate slope and for the journey home. A locked line is not level either. Reviews call the Nikotek 66 cm tripod too short and wobbly, and the Huepar 100 cm tripod flimsy. The Lusweimi states 127 cm, the tallest here. A 1/4 inch thread fits a camera tripod you may already own. Unlock, mark, and lock are on the how to use a cross line laser page.

A short decision

Use three bands, then the comparison table. For one wall indoors, where a missing millimetre-per-metre figure is acceptable, stay around £19 to £35. The Nikotek cube at £18.69 is the green cross without a tripod. The Lusweimi at £34.99 states a 127 cm tripod and ±3 mm over 10 metres, with a thin review file. For a rechargeable green line, or a stated ±0.3 mm/m, look at about £50 to £90. The DOVOH at £49.99 has pulse mode and no printed accuracy number. The GLL 2-10 at £89.95 states ±0.3 mm/m and a range of up to 10 m, and no tripod. For plumb dots or a whole room from one setup, about £120 to £154 is where the GCL 2-15 and the Huepar 703CG sit. The green Bosch GLL 20-22 G, at £154.00, does not state an English working range.

Common questions

What does ±0.3 mm/m mean over a 5 m run?
The maker’s stated error grows by 0.3 mm for each metre. Over 5 m that is 1.5 mm. The sum is arithmetic on the claim printed for the GLL 2-10 and the GCL 2-15, not a lab result. A listing that prints ±2.5 mm with no distance cannot be run through the same sum.
Should the tripod be in the box?
Only if you do not already have a stand that reaches the mark. A 66 cm tripod is a repeated complaint here because it will not put a line on a ceiling. A 1/4 inch thread lets you use a camera tripod. Read the in-the-box line: the RockSeed LV1GT title mentions a tripod that the what-you-get bullet does not list.
Does IP54 mean I can use it in the rain?
No. Where a listing states IP54, treat it as dust and splash protection, not as permission to leave the tool in a downpour. Several listings here state no IP rating at all. Indoor fit-out is the job these crosses are sold for.
Do I need pulse mode on day one?
Not for pictures and shelves indoors. Pulse mode matters when a receiver has to find the line in bright light. The DOVOH and the SAVSEC state pulse mode, and neither box includes the receiver. Most cheaper cubes do not mention it, so an outdoor title is not the same feature.
Is a missing laser class a reason to skip the listing?
Prefer a stated Class 2 or Class II when prices are close. GOV.UK describes Class 2 as visible light you should not stare into, and warns that some products marked Class 2 measure higher, so the label is not proof of output. Stop if a label says Class 3B or Class 4. Employers have extra duties for those classes under the Control of Artificial Optical Radiation at Work Regulations 2010.
