Digital angle finder for a mitre saw

Updated: 22 October 2026

The saw's own scale says 45°, the offcut says otherwise, and you are about to trust the sticker on the bevel. A digital angle finder for a mitre saw is there to read the blade against that saw's table, with the plug out. This page uses the amazon.co.uk listings on the [digital angle finder comparison](/hub/measuring-and-marking-tools/digital-angle-finder) and the public setup notes from Trend and Wixey. Peter F. did not measure your saw. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. If the work is a skirting corner rather than a blade, you are on the wrong page.

Zero on the saw table, not on the floor

The angle that matters is the blade relative to the table you are cutting on. Put the magnetic box flat on the table, press zero, and only then move it to the blade. Trend's DLB how-to uses that order for a table saw. Zero on the floor and you have measured the blade against the floor. That number will not match the cut. Relative zero, including hinged rules, is on the how to use a digital angle finder page.

On the plate, not on the teeth

Unplug the saw before a gauge goes near the blade. The magnet belongs on the flat plate, not on the teeth. Teeth are a poor seat, they are sharp, and a box perched on them will not read the plate angle. The Trend DLB is the listing whose reviews describe this job: zero on the table, then the magnetic base on the blade. If the box will not hold, turn it onto the magnetic face. Do not measure a spinning blade. After you lock the bevel, read the gauge again. A lock can pull the blade a fraction as it clamps. That is a workshop rule of thumb, not a measured deflection. If the number moves, reset and recheck before you cut.

90° and 0° are both used

When the blade is square to the table, a gauge zeroed on the table often reads about 90°. You can leave that 90°, or zero again on the square blade if tilt should count from 0. Both habits are coherent. They are not the same number, and your saw's scale may use either. A reading of 0° on the blade can mean square on one machine and tilted to the table on another. None of the twelve listings is a Bosch GAM with a built-in mitre calculation. You still have to know which way the saw counts.

Which finder in this set can do it

The top pick for this job is the Trend DLB at £19.95, 4.7 from 5,486 amazon.co.uk reviews. Trend's UK page states ±0.2° and 0.1°, which Amazon omits, and the size and weight disagree. The XUNTOP at £22.99 claims four magnetic sides and two Class 2 lasers under 1 mW. UK reviews say the corner magnets slip, and one line sat about 2 cm low on a mirror. Do not stare into the beam. A hinged rule is a poor substitute on the plate. The DAR/200 is best value for corners, and a bad seat on the blade produces a false reading. If the tool you own is a rule, the buying guide explains why the shape is wrong here. Stop if the reading will not repeat after the bevel lock, or if you are not competent to set that saw.

Common questions

Do I zero on the floor or on the saw table?
Zero on the saw table. The cut is the blade against that surface. A sloping garage floor changes a reading that was zeroed on the floor, and it does not change a reading that was zeroed on the table. Put the box flat, press zero, then move it to the blade with the saw unplugged. If the table is bumpy, the zero is only as honest as the patch you chose.
Should the blade read 90° or 0° when it is square?
Both are used. Zeroed on the table, a square blade often reads about 90°. Press zero again while it is square if you want tilt to count from 0. Your saw's scale may not match the gauge. Read the manual for which number means a square cut before you tilt towards 45°. Do not assume 0° on the gauge is 0° on the sticker.
Can I use a digital angle rule on the blade?
You can hold a hinged rule against a fence or a stopped blade if the saw is unplugged, and it is an awkward way to read bevel. The arms are for two faces of a corner. Balanced on teeth, the rule rocks. DAR/200 reviews include false readings from a poor seat on the blade and fence. For the blade, use a magnetic box on the plate.
Where do the magnets have to sit?
On the flat plate of the blade, clear of the teeth, with the magnetic face against the steel. The Trend DLB has magnets on one face. The XUNTOP claims four sides, and reviews say the corner magnets slip. The gauge should sit square to the table, not cocked towards you. If it slides as you let go, the reading is not a setup you can keep.
Do I unplug the saw?
Yes. Unplug it before the gauge touches the blade, and leave it unplugged while you adjust the bevel and recheck. Do not rest a finder on a blade that can start. Cordless saws need the battery off the tool, not only a switch in the off position.
Why does the angle change when I lock the bevel?
The clamp can pull the blade a small amount as it seats. Read the gauge after the lock, not only before it. If the number moves, unlock, reset, and lock again, then confirm with a scrap cut. That movement is a workshop rule of thumb, not a measured angle from these listings. A gauge that shows a new number every time you replace it is a different fault.
Is the XUNTOP laser part of saw setup?
The lasers are Class 2 lines for alignment, stated under 1 mW. They are not what sets the bevel. The angle comes from the magnetic box after a zero on the table. UK reviews include a line about 2 cm out on a mirror, so do not hang a finished run on the beam without a second check. Do not look into the beam. For the blade angle alone, the Trend DLB is the simpler listing.
