Cordless lawn mower for large garden buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You have paced the lawn, the cable no longer reaches the far corner, and the titles on amazon.co.uk all say large. That word is not a cutting width, an amp-hour figure, or a promise about a wet April. This cordless lawn mower for large garden buying guide is the worksheet before you open the [cordless lawn mower for large gardens comparison](/hub/lawn-and-garden-equipment/cordless-lawn-mower-for-large-gardens): measure the grass, then read width, packs, bag, roller, and the charger plug. The five kept listings were captured at about £239.94 to about £313.33. We read those pages and did not mow with the machines. A qualifying purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What large means in UK guides

No British Standard defines a large garden. B&Q puts 400–550 m² with a 37–46 cm cut in a medium-to-large band, and still points lawns over 550 m² toward petrol and a deck over 46 cm. If your tape says 480 m², you are inside that band. At 700 m² a 35–43 cm battery deck is already at the edge. This page does not name a pick. The Greenworks 41 cm listing prints a width cell narrower than the cut, so measure the path yourself.

Width, packs, and bag

A 43 cm deck covers more grass per pass than a 35 cm deck. The 35 cm Greenworks is still titled for large lawns up to 400 m², so expect extra walking. On these listings, 48 V means two lower-voltage packs used together. The four-pack LawnMaster states four MX 24 V 4.0 Ah batteries and a dual charger. The two-battery LawnMaster does not print the included amp-hours. The Einhell is two 4.0 Ah Power X-Change packs. The 41 cm Greenworks is two 40 V 2.0 Ah packs. The 35 cm Greenworks is two 24 V 4.0 Ah packs, a different family from the 40 V tools. Those brands do not share packs. Reviewers of the 41 cm Greenworks say the 2.0 Ah packs run out. If the listing says 500 m² and the box says 2.0 Ah, believe the amp-hours. Bags run from 40 litres to up to 63 litres. The largest stated bag is still called flimsy.

Roller, mulch, and the plug

Only the two LawnMaster listings state an integrated rear roller and edge combs. A roller is not a reason to ignore weight: the four-pack is listed at 18.9 kg and the two-pack at 13.5 kg, and neither bullet says the wheels are driven. The other three do not state a roller. Mulch suits short, dry clippings, not the first cut after a holiday. Only the 35 cm Greenworks states side discharge as well as mulch and collect. Chargers for a UK shed should be BS 1363 on 230 V. The Einhell table does not describe the plug, and more than one UK review says it arrived with two pins. Check the live page and the carton. If the garden slopes, or you cannot face pushing 16–21 kg every week, read whether a push mower is enough. A higher voltage will not add driven wheels the bullets do not mention.

What not to trust

Square metres on a title are the maker's sentence. Einhell says up to 600 m². The 41 cm Greenworks says up to 500 m² and, in the same bullet, medium-sized. Both LawnMaster highlights say large lawns and give no square-metre figure. Which? reported about 22 minutes on average across other cordless mowers, from about 10 to over 40 minutes. That is not a test of these five. Height cells on both Greenworks listings conflict with their bullets. One bullet says 25–80 mm while a cell says a 25 cm minimum. Do not silently correct the clash. A higher star line does not mean more lawn: 4.8 from 62 reviews can still omit the amp-hours, against 4.4 from 277 and 4.1 from 6,758. None of the listings prints a sound-power figure.

Common questions

What cutting width do I need above about 400 m²?
B&Q's medium-to-large band is 400–550 m² with a 37–46 cm cut. In this set that points you at the 41 cm and 43 cm decks rather than the 35 cm Greenworks, which is titled for up to 400 m² and will need more passes. Over about 550 m², B&Q's own table moves to petrol and a wider deck. Garden Ninja's table is looser. Measure your lawn before you pick a band.
Is 48 V one battery or two?
On these listings, 48 V means two lower-voltage packs working together. The LawnMaster rows are MX 24 V packs. The 35 cm Greenworks is two 24 V 4.0 Ah packs and is a different family from the 40 V Greenworks. Read the voltage system before you assume a spare pack from the shed will fit.
Are 2.0 Ah packs enough when the listing says 500 m²?
The 41 cm Greenworks states two 2.0 Ah packs and up to 500 m², and it also says each battery cuts 250 m². Reviewers say those packs run out and that they wanted 4.0 Ah. Treat the area line as a claim for grass that is not left long, and count the amp-hours in the box before you pay.
How big a grass bag is worth having?
Bags here are 40 litres, 42 litres, 50 litres, and up to 63 litres. A larger bag means fewer trips on a long lawn, though reviewers still call some boxes flimsy. Long grass belongs in the bag, not in the mulch plug.
Do I need a rear roller?
Only if you want stripes and the listing actually says roller. Both LawnMaster rows state an integrated rear roller and edge combs. The Einhell and both Greenworks rows do not. A roller does not make the mower self-propelled, and you still push the listed weight.
What should I check on the charger plug?
You want a BS 1363 three-pin plug for a UK socket. The Einhell table does not describe the plug, and more than one review reports two pins. Check the live listing and the carton. Charge on a hard, clear surface with the maker's charger, and do not bin a lithium pack.
