Best ratchet spanner set: who should buy it or skip

Updated: 22 October 2026

You want one best ratchet spanner set, and a cheaper set that still contains the sizes you meet. The top pick is the Bosch Professional 10-piece if you want a short, quiet arc and can do without 9 mm and 11 mm. The best value is the Qnkaa 12-piece if you want every size from 8 mm to 19 mm on a sample that belongs to that listing. The [ratchet spanner comparison](/hub/hand-tools/ratchet-spanner) holds all twelve rows. Peter F. scored the amazon.co.uk listings on 22 October 2026, with no lab test. What best means on this page

Best, here, is a score from the amazon.co.uk star line, the review count, and conflicts in the listing. A shared review file, a count under 20, an unusable length or torque field, or a size list that fights the title holds a score down. A large sample and a list with no gaps holds it up. None of these twelve listings cites BS ISO 1711-1. Auto Express has its own group test. That winner is not imported here. Bosch leads at 71. Wera is at 68 and does not take a badge. Qnkaa is at 66 and takes best value: the full 8–19 mm list under £40 with its own sample of 990. A 4.9 from 15 does not lead. How to count sizes is on the ratchet spanner buying guide.

Bosch, if you want the 3° ring

Bosch Professional 1600A016BU is ten combination ratchet spanners at £101.53, with a toothless ratchet and a stated 3° backswing, in a wrap bag. The amazon.co.uk line is 4.7 from 6,348 reviews. The sizes are 8, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19 mm. There is no 9 mm and no 11 mm. If either nut is regular work, this is the wrong top pick. The length field says 3 cm, which is already in the score. The missing click is the design, not a first-stroke fault. Skip it if you use the click as your only cue. If the handle cannot sit square, use the flex head ratchet spanner page.

Qnkaa, if you want every size from 8 to 19 mm

Qnkaa’s 12-piece set is £29.95 and lists every millimetre from 8 mm to 19 mm, with a 72-tooth, 5° claim, a stated HRC 48, and a roll pouch. The line is 4.6 from 990 reviews on this ASIN. That is why it is best value, not because it is the cheapest. Amazon Basics is £18.53, the five-piece list has no 12 mm, and both Amazon Basics files share one 9,751-review text. Many Qnkaa reviews are short and positive. A few describe a 10 mm that felt closer to 13 mm, chipped chrome, and an early failure of a 12 mm or a 15 mm. If you need 6 mm and 7 mm, this list stops at 8 mm. The Enventor 14-piece rows continue down, on 46 and 15 reviews, so they do not take best value.

Sets that look stronger on a star line

Wera 05020013001 is 4.8 from 5,331, higher than Bosch, at £203.10. It stays off both badges. The bullets name a holding plate and a limit stop, and the sizes skip 9 mm. One long UK review says that plate bent and the jaw slipped. The Amazon torque, finish, and length fields are not usable. Wera’s datasheet states an 80-tooth ring and a 30° return. Those figures are not in the Amazon bullets. Screwfix lists the same set at £219.99 including VAT. Enventor DS003 is 4.9 from 15, with a 180° head, a 4° claim, and every size from 6 mm to 19 mm, at £45.99. That sample cannot outrank 6,348 or 990. The stroke is on how to use a ratchet spanner.

Common questions

Which set is the top pick, and who should skip it?
The top pick is Bosch Professional 1600A016BU, at £101.53 in this file, 4.7 from 6,348, with a toothless ratchet and a stated 3° backswing. It suits you if you want that short, quiet arc and you already know 9 mm and 11 mm are not in the box. Skip it if you need those two sizes, if you use the click as your only cue.
Why is the dearest set not the top pick?
Wera’s 11-piece Joker set is £203.10 here and 4.8 from 5,331, so the stars are higher than Bosch and the price is about double. The Amazon file’s torque, finish, and length fields are not usable, 9 mm is missing, and a long review says the holding plate bent in everyday use. Dear is not the same as first on this score.
What is the best-value set if I need every size from 8 to 19 mm?
Qnkaa’s 12-piece set, at £29.95, lists every millimetre from 8 mm to 19 mm and has 4.6 from 990 reviews on that ASIN. It is best value on that condition, not because it is the cheapest row. Amazon Basics is £18.53 and either skips 12 mm or shares its review text with the other Amazon Basics file.
Why does 4.9 from 15 not win?
Fifteen reviews can all be favourable and still tell you very little. Enventor’s flex set prints 4.9 from 15, with five short texts in the file and one note that use has been short. Bosch has 6,348 and Qnkaa has 990. The score on this page keeps a tiny sample below those counts, even when the size list is complete and the swing claim is 4°.
Does best here mean a lab test?
No. Nothing in this folder was torqued on a bench by us, and no listing cites BS ISO 1711-1. The score uses the amazon.co.uk stars, the review count, and listing conflicts such as an 8 metre length or a 72 Newton metre field that is not a test. Another site’s group test is that site’s result. It is not a ranking of these twelve ASINs.
