How to assemble a Keter shed

Updated: 22 October 2026

The carton is on the path, and the mower still needs a roof before the next shower. How to assemble a Keter shed comes down to a level patch and a second person, which is what Keter’s own UK FAQ asks for before it lists a screwdriver. The roof and the door are where one person, or a base that slopes, usually fails. Which body to buy is on the [Keter garden shed comparison](/hub/garden-supplies/keter-garden-shed). We used Keter’s UK FAQ and assembly index, plus buyer notes from 19 October 2026. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

Set the ground before the first screw

Lay the floor only after the patch is flat, level and firm enough that a spirit level does not rock. Keter’s UK notes say to build the shed where it will stay, with clearance for a stepladder. Dragging a finished shell twists the floor. A plastic floor panel does not correct a fall in the ground underneath. Check the level along the door opening and across both diagonals before any wall panel goes on. A fall of about 2 cm from hinge side to latch side is enough for the bolt to meet the keep at an angle. If the only flat ground is beside a fence, the height cap is a planning question. The slab and the nation-by-nation limits are on Keter shed base and planning. Assembly starts once that base is already level.

People and tools

Keter’s UK FAQ asks for two people, a screwdriver, a power drill, a mallet, an adjustable spanner and a stepladder, plus gloves and eye protection. Anchor screws are not in the manual kits, so a wind fixing is a separate shop trip if your plot is exposed. A Factor assembly manual, only when your own PDF matches it, says not to build in strong wind or in the cold, and it limits the building to storage. Keter says a Store-It-Out is often finished within an hour, and one UK review of the Nova puts the job at about 40 minutes. A walk-in Manor is an afternoon with two people, because the walls stay supported until the roof closes them. Download the PDF for your model before you open the box.

Roof and door

The roof needs someone inside and someone outside at the same time. On the Manor Pent, buyer notes describe one person supporting a panel while the other brings the fixing home. If you skip ahead, the walls bow inward and the next hole no longer lines up. Keep any metal plate in the order the PDF shows. Leaving that plate in the tray is a common way to end with a roof that sits proud of the wall. Hinge holes that miss by a few millimetres make a stiff bolt, and a second hole drilled to make it shut moves the problem to the latch. Close the door while the frame can still be eased, and stop if it only meets the keep when you lean on it. A padlock does not pull a twisted hinge back into line. Do not stand on the roof. Nova reviews still mention gaps in the instructions and a cracked base.

When to stop

Stop when a panel or the base is cracked in the carton, when a fixing is missing, or when the shell closes only if you force it. The Consumer Rights Act 2015, section 22, is the 30-day right to reject goods that are not of satisfactory quality. It is not a promise of a refund on the day you ask. Photograph the crack and use the seller’s returns route while the days are still on your side. Call a second person back if the only problem is the weight of the roof. Stop when the base is out of level, or when holes will not meet without drilling new ones. If you are still choosing which carton to open, the fit of each listing is on best Keter garden shed, and the centimetre checks are in the Keter garden shed buying guide.

Common questions

Can I build a Keter shed alone?
Keter’s UK FAQ says sheds need two people. A Store-It-Out Nova is lighter, and one UK review finished one in about 40 minutes, yet the lid is still awkward alone. A Manor roof needs someone inside and someone outside at the same moment.
What tools do I need to assemble a Keter shed?
Have a screwdriver, a power drill, a mallet, an adjustable spanner and a stepladder, which is the list on Keter’s UK FAQ. Add gloves, eye protection and a spirit level. Anchor screws are not in the kits the manuals describe.
How long does a Store-It-Out take compared with a Manor?
Keter says a Store-It-Out is often done within an hour, and one UK Nova review cites about 40 minutes. A larger walk-in is often an afternoon with two people and a base that is already level. Cold weather and a missing part wipe out either estimate.
What if the Keter shed door will not shut?
Ease the frame while the fixings can still move, and check that the hinge holes meet the ones in the booklet. A padlock will not straighten a twisted hinge. If the door meets the keep only when you push the wall, stop.
What if a panel is cracked in the box?
Stop the build and keep the cracked part, the fixings and the packaging. The Consumer Rights Act 2015, section 22, is the 30-day short-term right to reject. Contact the seller with photographs while that period still has days left.
