How to assemble a plastic shed

Updated: 22 October 2026

The cartons are on the lawn, the booklet is mostly pictures, and the first wall panel misses the floor by a centimetre. How to assemble a plastic shed is a sequence you can finish: a level base, every carton in the garden, a square floor, then the walls. The resin boxes and walk-ins named here are on the [plastic garden shed comparison](/hub/garden-supplies/garden-shed-plastic). Peter F. read those amazon.co.uk listings and the buyer reports on them. The steps below come from those pages and published assembly guides, not a build we timed. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

Make it level before you open the screws

A resin shell is stiff in each panel and floppy as a whole. Twist the ground and the corners miss, and forcing them cracks a floor or bows a door. Reviews of the LARBANKE 4x6, about £339.99, blame an uneven pad for panels that will not line up. The plastic floor in the kit is the liner you stand on, so the platform under it has to be level and drained first. GardenSite’s assembly guide starts with level ground, and a square platform matches on both diagonals. When those lengths differ, pack the base before any wall screw goes in. Fence height, including any base you add, sits on the plastic shed base and planning page.

Floor, then walls, then roof

The working order is floor, walls, door, then roof. GardenSite uses that sequence and expects two people on a walk-in. Square the floor by its diagonals, fit the stiffeners shown, and stop when a screw spins in the boss. Reviews of a Duramax in this set include undrilled holes, so keep a cordless drill and drill only the missing hole, at the screw’s own size. The Keter Store It Out Nova, about £137.99, is often a solo box. An 8x6 LARBANKE, near 83.7 kg, is a two-person lift. When the booklet stops making sense, call a fitter, as one 8x6 buyer did.

Time, helpers, and split deliveries

A printed time is a claim on the listing. A LARBANKE page can say three to five hours, while walk-in reviews include a two-day build. Book a helper when you cannot hold a panel and drive a screw at once. Wait until every carton is in the garden. An 8x6 in this set arrived across three vans. Check the part count against the booklet while the packaging is intact, and photograph a cracked panel before it becomes a wall. A cracked Keter base is a reason to stop with the shell still flat. Where the goods do not conform, the short-term right to reject under section 22 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 is 30 days. What you store, once the shell is up, is in the plastic garden shed buying guide.

The cover tent is a different job

The Outsunny, about £71.99, is a plastic cover on a galvanised steel frame, about 12.5 kg, with a roll-up door and no resin floor. You join poles, seat a hem, run zips, and stake or weight a light frame. Reviews mention a zip that fails within weeks and a hem that will not fix to the frame. The listing suggests a wall in stronger wind, and a lawn peg is a weak anchor on paving. A hem that will not seat is a stop, so leave the tent packed if you may send it back. A fast afternoon with poles is poor evidence for how long an 8x6 will take. Keep the resin sequence for the resin kits.

Common questions

Do I build the floor before the walls?
Yes. The floor is the square the walls follow, which is why GardenSite puts it first, then walls, doors, and roof. Raise a wall before that square exists and it has nothing true to meet. Check both diagonals, then bring the next panel in. A miss at the floor is a base problem, and the roof will leave that corner where it is.
What if the panels will not line up?
Stop and measure both floor diagonals. On the LARBANKE 4x6, an uneven pad is what stopped the panels meeting. When the lengths differ, take the shell off and pack the platform until they match. Forcing the corner cracks bosses and bows the door. If the base is already true and only a hole is missing, drill that hole and leave the panel unbent.
Should I start when only one carton has arrived?
Wait until every carton is there and the part count matches the booklet. One 8x6 delivery in this set came on three vans. A missing door or a short bag of fixings leaves a shell you cannot finish, and a half-built kit is harder to return as it arrived. Photograph crushed corners while the cartons are still closed.
Do I need a drill?
Have one ready even when the booklet shows self-tapping screws. Duramax reviews in this set include undrilled holes, so you may need a single hole at the screw’s own size. These sources give no torque figure. Stop when the panel sits flat. If the plastic dishes around the head, the screw has gone too far.
How long should I allow?
Allow a clear day for a walk-in. A three-to-five-hour line is a claim, and LARBANKE reviews include a two-day build. About half an hour suits some Olsen boxes, and a Keter box is often solo. Neither figure fits an 8x6 near 83.7 kg. If the drawings run out, a fitter costs less than a split panel.
What if a panel is cracked?
Photograph it in the packaging and leave it unfitted. A cracked Keter base in these reviews is damage, and tape will leave you with a weak floor. Where the goods do not conform, section 22 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 gives a 30-day short-term right to reject. Use the seller’s returns route while the shell is still flat and the carton is kept.
Is the tent a different build?
Yes. The Outsunny at about £71.99 is poles and a cover, about 12.5 kg, with no resin floor. You tension a sleeve and anchor a light frame, and the faults that recur are zips and a hem that will not grip. People use it for a mobility scooter they still move. It will not show you how a LARBANKE goes together.
