Plastic garden shed buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

You have a mower, a wheelie bin, or a bike that will not stay in the hall, and an amazon.co.uk title already written in feet. This plastic garden shed buying guide is the order of questions before a product page: what must fit, which body you are buying, whether a floor and a padlock are in the box, then the centimetres behind the foot label. The eight listings, with prices in GBP, are on the [plastic garden shed comparison](/hub/garden-supplies/garden-shed-plastic). Peter F. read those amazon.co.uk files and the public UK pages named below, and did not run a lab test. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

What you are storing

Write the object down in centimetres, including handles, bars, and wheels. A foot label will not tell you whether a 240 litre wheelie bin passes the opening. On the Duramax 850 L, about £147.37, with 4.1 from 2,685 reviews, one UK review says a 240 litre bin did not fit and the buyer cut the floor. The Keter Store It Out Nova, about £137.99, claims two 120 litre bins. The outside is 132 x 71.5 x 113.5 cm and the inside is 122 x 61 x 108.8 cm. A reach-in box here is about 1.1 m high. If your object is longer than that depth, you need another body.

A box, a walk-in, or a cover

Three bodies share the search, and they are not substitutes. A resin box is for bins and a mower you can lift: the Olsen 775 L at about £109.98, the Keter at about £137.99, and the Duramax at about £147.37. LARBANKE supplies the walk-ins: a 4x3 at about £339.99 with 1.18 m² of floor, a 4x6 at about £339.99 measuring 173 x 131 x 200 cm, and two 8x6 listings near £509 at 1.7 x 2.4 x 2.3 m. About £340 is worth it when you will step inside and the door still clears the mower. The Outsunny at about £71.99 and 12.5 kg is a steel frame with a plastic cover, a temporary scooter shelter. Do not score it as resin.

Floor, lock, and vents

An integrated floor is a plastic panel, not a foundation. Sheds Direct makes that split, and walk-in reviews blame an unlevel base when panels will not line up. Put the shell on a flat, drained platform before the cartons arrive. Height rules that differ in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland are on the plastic shed base and planning page. The lock is what the carton contains, not the word lockable. Olsen includes a combination padlock. Keter says lockable and does not list a padlock. The LARBANKE 4x3 says the padlock is not supplied. A hasp is not a security rating, and none of these files shows a Sold Secure mark. Duramax reviews describe rain at the back panel and lid gaps, so a waterproof line is a claim.

Read the centimetres

Foot labels are a marketing size. DIY Garden puts the inside up to about 20 cm smaller than the outside, as a rule of thumb from that guide. A UK review of LARBANKE B0H4FDQTJR, about £509.00, with 2.8 from 11 reviews, measured about 5 ft 7 in inside, roughly 170 cm, with a bike wheel out of the door. The 8x6 lines state 1.7 x 2.4 x 2.3 m. The LARBANKE 4x6 lists a 61 cm door, which stops a wide mower. Olsen’s bullets give 116 x 71 x 112.5 cm and the dimension line gives 70.9 x 115.8 x 109 cm, so measure against both. Who each listing suits is on best plastic garden shed.

Common questions

What should I measure before I look at feet on the title?
Measure the longest item, handles and wheelbase included, in centimetres, and use the internal size rather than 8x6 or 4x6. The Keter is 122 x 61 x 108.8 cm inside. A UK review of LARBANKE B0H4FDQTJR measured about 5 ft 7 in, roughly 170 cm, with a bike wheel still out of the door. If your object is longer than that depth, the foot label has failed.
Is a storage box a shed?
On amazon.co.uk the word shed also covers a rigid resin box you do not walk into. Olsen, Keter, and Duramax are about 1.1 m high, from about £109.98 to about £147.37. A LARBANKE at about £339.99 is the body you step into. Standing beside the mower still needs that walk-in.
Does a floor in the title mean I can put it on grass?
No. The floor is a plastic panel, and Sheds Direct treats it as separate from a foundation. Reviews blame an unlevel base when panels will not line up, and grass moves through the year. A slab, paving, or a supported deck comes first. Height limits for the finished shell, base included, differ by nation.
Is the padlock in the box?
Only when the listing says so. Olsen includes a combination padlock. Keter says lockable and does not list one, so expect to buy it. The LARBANKE 4x3 says the padlock is not supplied. A hasp is not a security grade, and none of these listings shows a Sold Secure mark. Read the contents line before delivery day.
When is a walk-in worth about £340 rather than a box near £140?
When you will stand inside and the door clears what you roll in. A box from about £109.98 to about £147.37 suits bins and a mower you can lift. The LARBANKE 4x6 at about £339.99 has a 61 cm door, which can stop a wide mower. An 8x6 near £509 still drew a review of about 5 ft 7 in inside.
Why is the cheap plastic shed a tent?
The Outsunny at about £71.99 is a steel frame and plastic cover at 12.5 kg, not a rigid resin shell. The bullets still call it a plastic shed. Buyers use that cover for a mobility scooter and treat it as temporary. Zips and stakes are the wear points. If you wanted a rigid store, leave it.
How close to the fence can a 2 m shed stand in England?
In England, Class E on the Planning Portal caps overall height at 2.5 m within 2 m of a boundary. A shed of about 2 m fits that strip only if the finished height, base included, stays at or under 2.5 m. Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland do not copy this table. Ask the council if the house is listed.
