Tree swing or wooden swing frame

Updated: 22 October 2026

You have a branch you hope is strong enough, a pergola, or neither. The fork is the support. A tree swing or wooden swing frame is not the same purchase, and the kept frame at £159.99 arrives without a seat. Straps and hooks, once you have chosen, are on [how to hang a wooden garden swing](/hub/garden-furniture/garden-swing-wood/sub/garden-swing-wood-how-to-hang). The [wooden garden swing comparison](/hub/garden-furniture/garden-swing-wood) holds the nine rows. If the limb or the pergola is in doubt, stop. Peter F. read the listings on 22 October 2026. A branch you can defend

Choose the branch when you can point at a sound hardwood limb, clear of the trunk, about 20 cm thick. That thickness is Take A Bough’s rule of thumb. Sitting Spiritually names oak, beech, or sycamore, and steps away from pine, poplar, willow, and silver birch. If you cannot name the tree, a tree surgeon comes before any strap. KINSPORY, Pellor, both Favuit widths, and AnExer are seats. Furinno and SAM are hanging benches. Furinno names chains. SAM does not name ropes or chains. None of those rows stands up on its own. A review about someone else’s tree is not a survey of your limb. If the branch fails, do not move the seat onto the pergola.

A pergola is not a beam until someone qualified says so

Most garden pergolas hold climbers and their own weight. A swinging seat adds a moving load. Sitting Spiritually’s note treats a decorative pergola as a different structure from one built to swing. One UK Workshop build moved sideways with children of about 20–25 kg. That thread is one forum example. It is not a rating for the TP frame or a brace to copy. Do not hang a seat to see whether the pergola feels fine. AnExer’s 200 kg field and Favuit’s 550 lb bullet are claims about the seat, not a certificate for timber you already own.

The wooden frame that does not include a seat

The kept frame is the TP Forest Acorn, ASIN B00IG8BWGE, at £159.99. The brand field says Mookie and the manufacturer is TP Toys. The seat is not included. Timber is FSC pine or spruce, the age line is 6 months to 8 years, and the field says 60 kg. A five-year rot bullet sits beside a one-year parts field. The line is 4.4 from 132 United Kingdom reviews, including cracked timber and missing bolts. The maker quotes two years against wood rot, says anchors must be concreted in, and an older TP302 guide says 45 kg per seat. Do not merge those figures. Which seat fits is on the best wooden garden swing page.

The A-frame listing with almost no fields

MDDKOP at £266.66 names an A-frame for two adults, solid wood, a stand, and a metal chain. There is no load, no assembled size, and no review line. The package is 164.01 × 15.01 × 11 cm and the item weight is 19 kg. Leave it until those fields exist. A higher price is not more information. A seat-kit strap belongs on the branch, not on the frame. If you have a sound branch, use the branch and a seat. If you have a child in the TP age line and no branch, buy the Forest Acorn and a separate seat. If you have a plant pergola, stop. Species clashes that are not about the support are on the wooden garden swing buying guide.

Common questions

I have a tree. Do I still need a wooden frame?
You need the frame when the branch fails the check. A sound hardwood limb about 20 cm thick can take a hanging seat with a proper strap. Pine, poplar, willow, silver birch, or a limb you cannot judge are reasons to leave the tree alone. The seats here do not include a frame. The TP Forest Acorn is the frame, and it does not include a seat.
The Forest Acorn costs £159.99. What else do I have to buy?
A seat. The amazon bullet says the frame is supplied without one. The listing load is 60 kg and the age line is 6 months to 8 years. The maker’s page says ground anchors must be concreted in, and concrete is not supplied. The amazon extract does not list those anchors. Add the seat before you compare £159.99 with a seat for a frame you already own.
Why do the amazon guarantee and the maker page not match?
They are different documents. Amazon prints a five-year rot bullet, a one-year parts field, and 60 kg. The maker’s page says two years against wood rot, and that the weight depends on the seat. An older TP302 guide says 45 kg per seat. Use the paper in the carton you received. Do not average the numbers.
Can I hang a seat from the pergola that is already in the garden?
Only if someone qualified has said that pergola was built to swing. A decorative plant frame is a shade structure. One UK Workshop build moved sideways with children of about 20–25 kg. That is an example of racking, not a rating for your posts. Without that sign-off, use a checked branch or a purpose-built frame.
The £266.66 listing says A-frame. What size and load does it print?
MDDKOP prints a package of 164.01 × 15.01 × 11 cm and an item weight of 19 kg. It does not print an assembled size, a species beyond solid wood, a load, or a review line. The title’s A-frame is not a width. The TP frame at £159.99 at least states 60 kg, an age, and the missing seat.
When do I stop and ask a tree surgeon or a builder?
Stop when you cannot judge the limb, when the joists are hidden, or when a pergola rocks. A tree surgeon takes the branch. A builder takes the ceiling or the concrete. The TP age and load lines are not a reason to try a support you already doubt.
