Mini chainsaw buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

You are looking at amazon.co.uk kits that promise a 6 inch cut in a few seconds. A mini chainsaw buying guide starts with the bar, the oil and the pack you can actually check. Seller watts, a second weight in the small print, and an eight-second claim do not describe the cut. This page is the criteria. The twelve listings, with prices in GBP, sit on the [mini chainsaw comparison](/hub/forestry-tools/mini-chainsaw). Peter F. read those listings on 21 October 2026 and did not run a lab cut. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What a 6 inch bar is for

Most of this set is a 6 inch cordless pruning saw. The useful figure is the diameter the bar can finish, which is smaller than the bar. Hyundai’s HY20CCS150, outside this set, is described as suiting about 100–120 mm. Stiga’s UK guide puts compact bars on branches up to about 10 cm. Both are guidance for those makers’ saws, not a timed cut of these listings. An eight-second claim is an advert. The Seesii M8 Boost ships with an 8 inch bar and a spare 6 inch bar, and the seller still recommends cuts up to 6 inches. If the wood is a trunk, read mini chainsaw vs chainsaw.

Oil, tension and a spare chain

A battery mini chainsaw still needs bar-and-chain oil. Cordless describes the motor, not the bar, and the bottle in this set is often empty. Manual oiling is stated on the Supstable 10C6M and the three Seesii listings. Automatic oiling is claimed on the SINPY, the Supstable 6C28S, the NovorikX and the CHEOAR, and that claim still needs oil in the tank. The Angseen SKU002010 lists a bottle and does not say it is filled. A WD-40 tip is not the specification. A new chain is often slack. The SINPY listing is 4.4 from 1,834 reviews, and a repeated complaint is a chain that came off. A second chain does not replace the first tension check. The steps are on how to use a mini chainsaw.

Packs, plugs and a real brake

Two 2.0 Ah packs are two short runs with a swap, not one 4.0 Ah pack. The Angseen SKU002010 is sold that way. The Seesii CH700R and M8 Boost are sold with two 4000 mAh packs. Reviewers on the Angseen describe packs that did not finish a job. The NovorikX is the only listing here that states a 2.4 A UK charger. UK mains are 230 V with BS 1363 plugs, and a Schuko-only lead is a buying problem. A safety lock stops an accidental start. A chain brake is meant to stop the chain in a kickback, and HSE guidance treats a brake as reducing kickback, not removing it. Only the NovorikX claims a dual brake, at about £89.98 and 3.8 from 86 reviews. Gloves in the box are not EN 381 chainsaw PPE.

How to read this set

Shelf prices fall in three bands: about £28–£40, about £50–£70, and about £90–£110. Magazine pages on branded pruners are a different pile of evidence. Where two watt figures sit on one listing, treat the claim as unread. The CH700R bullets say 1000 W and the spec field says 900 W. Weights conflict the same way: the bullets say 1.4 kg and the item-weight field says 3.7 kg. Do not average them. The CH700R and the 8 inch CH850 both show 4.5 from 9,284 with the same opening review text, so that count is one sample. The CHEOAR at about £109.99 has no star line in the file.

Common questions

What bar length do I need for garden branches?
For ordinary garden branches, the 6 inch bars match the band Hyundai and Stiga describe for their own compact saws: about 100–120 mm, and about 10 cm. Those figures are maker guidance, not a timed test of these twelve listings. If the wood is a trunk or a winter of logs, this bar length is the wrong tool.
Does a battery mini chainsaw need oil?
Yes. The chain and bar still need bar-and-chain oil, whether the oiler is manual or automatic. Several bottles in this set arrive empty, including the Rivlox and the Seesii CH850. A review that mentions WD-40 is not the specification. If the fill is not stated, add oil before the first cut.
Are two 2.0 Ah packs the same as one 4.0 Ah pack?
No. Two 2.0 Ah packs, as on the Angseen SKU002010 at about £33.99, give you a swap if both packs work. They do not give you one continuous 4.0 Ah run. The Seesii kits with two 4000 mAh packs are the longer pair, and they cost more. One failed 2.0 Ah pack leaves a single short run.
Why do two watt numbers appear on one listing?
The title, the bullets and the specification field were not written as one checked sentence. The CH700R prints 1000 W and 900 W. These motors were not bench-tested, so the watt claim is unresolved. Buy on the bar, the oil system, the pack size and a review sample you can attribute to that ASIN.
Is a safety lock the same as a chain brake?
A safety lock keeps the trigger from firing by accident. A chain brake is meant to stop the chain if the saw kicks back. HSE’s guidance is that a brake reduces kickback and does not remove it. Only the NovorikX listing in this set claims a dual brake. On the others, the brake is not stated.
Are the included gloves chainsaw gloves?
The gloves in these kits are what reviewers call thin, and the listings do not state EN 381. HSE’s chainsaw PPE page is about certified clothing, which is a different product from gloves in a £30 box. Treat the included pair as a packing item, and still use eye protection, hearing protection and boots.
