Laminate cutter 12mm: title claims versus UK reviews

Updated: 21 October 2026

Your pack says 12 mm, and the cutter in the basket says 13 mm, 16 mm, or 17 mm. A laminate cutter 12mm search usually ends on that title, and the title is a claim. UK reviews of the same amazon.co.uk listings name boards they could shear and boards they could not, and the two do not average into a new specification. Peter F. stayed on thickness for the six listings in our [laminate cutter comparison](/hub/flooring-tools-and-accessories/laminate-cutter). We did not shear a 12 mm board in a lab. For 12 mm and above, keep a saw available. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

What each listing states

Read the thickness cell before the stars. Wolfcraft’s LC 600 says standard laminate up to 8 mm, and up to 11 mm only with integrated footfall sound insulation, on the bullet and the maker’s UK page. Roughneck says up to 11 mm, not 12 mm. Zozen’s bullet says 13 mm. WORKPRO states 16 mm. The MAIHUITE title says up to 17 mm. CutTool’s bullets state no thickness. Wickes sells a Roberts 330 mm cutter at £140 that claims laminate to 12 mm. That is not an ASIN here. The MAIHUITE title is the highest millimetre, and the one a review contradicts furthest down the scale.

What UK reviewers report around 10–15 mm

WORKPRO states 16 mm: one UK review cut 8 mm at 315 mm wide, another reported 10 mm and 12 mm, and a return because 12 mm was not clean. MAIHUITE’s 17 mm title sits beside 8 mm, 12 mm, and a struggle at 10 mm with a chop that can kick. Zozen’s 13 mm bullet sits beside finished 5 mm and 8 mm LVT and a 12 mm cut that was not clean. CutTool states no cap: clean 8 mm, poor 12 mm, and 15 mm engineered wood beyond a reasonable pull. Roughneck states 11 mm, and buyers who expected 12 mm report a poor cut. Wolfcraft states 8 mm, with reviews that could not get past about 6 mm. A 12 mm plank can stall a handle that sailed through 8 mm.

Try a scrap, then decide

Cut one offcut before you commit the room or throw the box away. Support the waste and press once. If the face tears, the underside blows out, or the handle stops, that cutter is not doing this floor. If the listing stated a thickness your board is inside and the tool will not cut it, the Consumer Rights Act 2015, section 22, gives 30 days to reject faulty or misdescribed goods. Citizens Advice, via GOV.UK, is 0345 404 0506. DIYnot replies on 12 mm favour a mitre saw or a circular saw. That thread never tests a modern 330 mm lever. Dust and rips are on laminate cutter vs mitre saw.

Who should not use a guillotine here

Do not buy a guillotine for 15 mm engineered wood because a laminate title mentions it. The CutTool note that names 15 mm calls it beyond a realistic pull. Do not buy the MAIHUITE at £149.99 because 17 mm is printed on the title. Pair it with the 10 mm struggle or leave the listing. A heavier tool will not press for you if you cannot load the handle. A 10 mm pack is already outside Wolfcraft’s 8 mm line for standard laminate, unless it is the integrated-underlay case and still inside 11 mm. If the 12 mm scrap fails, the saw is the tool for that floor.

Common questions

Will any of these cut 12 mm laminate cleanly?
None of them has a clean 12 mm result you can treat as guaranteed. WORKPRO has both a 10–12 mm report and a return because 12 mm was not clean. Zozen’s bullet says 13 mm and a review says 12 mm was not clean. MAIHUITE’s title says 17 mm, with a struggle at 10 mm and another report of 12 mm. Cut a scrap. Keep a saw ready.
Why does a 16 mm or 17 mm title still get 12 mm returns?
Because the title is the seller’s maximum, not a test on your core. WORKPRO states 16 mm and still has a return over a 12 mm cut. MAIHUITE says 17 mm and has a struggle at 10 mm beside easier cuts. Thickness, click profile, and how hard you can press all change the result. The star rating does not cancel that.
Is 14 mm laminate a cutter job?
One MAIHUITE reviewer reported cutting 14 mm heavy-duty laminate. That is one report, next to a struggle at 10 mm on the same listing. It is not a reason to plan a 14 mm floor around a guillotine. If you are still buying, assume you will want a saw.
What about 15 mm engineered wood?
A CutTool reviewer described 15 mm engineered wood as beyond any reasonable pull on the bar. A laminate title, even one that mentions engineered wood, is not a measured 15 mm cut. Use a saw, and control the dust if you cut indoors.
Does integrated underlay count inside the thickness?
On the Wolfcraft it is a separate line: standard laminate up to 8 mm, and integrated footfall sound insulation up to 11 mm, on the Amazon bullet and the maker’s UK page. Do not add underlay you roll out separately and call the total the cutter’s cap. The other listings do not publish that split.
Is 10 mm already too thick for the Wolfcraft?
For standard laminate, yes. The listing and the maker page cap that case at 8 mm. The 11 mm line is only for integrated footfall sound insulation. Reviews include people who could not get past about 6 mm. A 10 mm pack without integrated underlay is outside the stated spec.
