Laminate floor cutter: measure the plank you chose

Updated: 21 October 2026

You already have the packs in the room, and the laminate floor cutter is the part that still has to match them. A manual guillotine cross-cuts the end of a board beside the row. It does not rip the last row to width, and it does not undercut a door lining. Measure the plank you chose, then match a jaw that can take that width and a thickness other people have actually sheared. Peter F. checked the amazon.co.uk listings in our [laminate cutter comparison](/hub/flooring-tools-and-accessories/laminate-cutter), read on 19 October 2026. We did not run a lab test. Measure the plank before the tool

A laminate floor cutter is only as useful as the gap between the jaw and the board in your hand. Flooring King describes wide planks from about 190 mm to 245 mm. Roughneck states 200 mm, already tight on a 190 mm plank. WORKPRO states 340 mm. MAIHUITE and CutTool state 330 mm. Zozen’s title says 33 cm and a bullet says 31 cm. Wolfcraft’s UK page states up to 465 mm for the LC 600. The Amazon cell did not, so that figure stays with the maker. If the plank is wider than the stated jaw, stop before you compare stars.

Thickness is a claim until a review matches your board

The millimetre on the title is the seller’s claim. Wolfcraft agrees on the bullet and the maker page: standard laminate up to 8 mm, or 11 mm only with integrated underlay. Roughneck says up to 11 mm, not 12 mm. Zozen’s bullet says 13 mm. WORKPRO states 16 mm. The MAIHUITE title says up to 17 mm. CutTool states no thickness. Around 12 mm the UK reports split, and one MAIHUITE reviewer struggled at 10 mm. If the pack is 12 mm or more, read cutting thick laminate before you treat 16 mm or 17 mm as your board.

Rip, vinyl, and who pushes the handle

Wood Floor Warehouse treats the guillotine as a cut to length. A last row narrowed along its length needs a saw. Only Wolfcraft says the stop comes off for a longitudinal cut. CutTool and WORKPRO reviews say those tables do not cut along the length. WORKPRO weighs 10.7 kg and the LC 600 bullet says 2 kg. Both still need a firm push. Heavier is a stable table and a harder carry. Zozen describes a chain brake. If you cannot load the handle, use a saw where you can ventilate.

What the price bands buy

Entry in this set is about £41 to £53: Roughneck at £41.38 with a 200 mm jaw, Wolfcraft at £52.95 and about 8 mm for standard laminate. Mid is about £92 to £109: Zozen at £91.99, and CutTool at £109.00 with an oilstone, tapping block, pull bar and 20 spacers. A bullet says that stock is international. Upper DIY is about £140 to £150: WORKPRO at £139.99 and MAIHUITE at £149.99. Flooring Tools Direct lists trade guillotines from about £605 to about £852. The £41 tool fails once the plank is wider than 200 mm.

Common questions

How wide a cutter do I need for a wide plank?
Flooring King describes wide planks from about 190 mm to 245 mm. A 200 mm jaw is already tight on the low end and too small once the board sits at 45°. A 330 mm or 340 mm table matches those faces for a square end cut. Measure your plank, not a showroom average.
Is the millimetre on the title the thickness I will cut cleanly?
No. It is the seller’s claim, not a count of clean cuts. Wolfcraft states 8 mm for standard laminate, or 11 mm only with integrated underlay. Higher titles run to 17 mm, and a review struggled at 10 mm against that title. Cut a scrap. If the pack is 12 mm or thicker, keep a saw available.
Can one tool cut laminate and LVT?
Often the thin click vinyl is the easier cut, and several titles name SPC, LVT, and laminate together. That is not a promise for every board. The Wolfcraft bullets do not state vinyl, and a UK review that used the LC 600 on vinyl laminate reported ruined boards. Test an offcut before you cut the row that shows.
Do I still need a saw if I buy a cutter?
Yes, if the last row has to be narrowed along its length, if a pipe needs a notch, or if a door lining has to be undercut. Only the Wolfcraft listing states a lengthwise cut, and that is with the stop removed. A heavy table is still a cross-cut tool unless its own page says otherwise.
What is a sensible GBP band for a one-room job?
One room of 8 mm boards that fit the jaw does not require the £140 to £150 band. A wide plank pushes you off the £41 tool, because 200 mm is already tight. A trade guillotine, past about £400 as a rule of thumb, is a different purchase from a one-room DIY floor.
What if the tool will not cut the board the listing described?
Cut a scrap while you can still reject the goods. The Consumer Rights Act 2015, section 22, gives 30 days to reject faulty or misdescribed goods, from the day after delivery and ownership. Citizens Advice, via GOV.UK, is 0345 404 0506. A 16 mm or 17 mm title is a description you can test. It is not a result we measured.
