Klarstein electric fire how to use on the first evening

Updated: 22 October 2026

The carton is in the room. A Klarstein electric fire in this set is a plug-in fan heater with an LED flame, not a wood stove. The first evening has three jobs: run the flame without heat if the listing allows it, recognise a thermostat that has reached its set point, and stop before any cable is buried. Follow the booklet in your box. The comparison rows are on the [Klarstein electric fireplace](/hub/fireplaces-and-stoves/klarstein-electric-fireplace) page, and the plug check is on the [UK plug](/hub/fireplaces-and-stoves/klarstein-electric-fireplace/sub/klarstein-electric-fireplace-uk-plug) page. Flame without the heater

On the Lamington, the Lausanne, the Bormio S, and the taller Bormio, the listings say the flame effect works without the heating function. The Lausanne describes the dimmer as separate from the heater. That is the control split to find in the booklet: light on one action, heat on another. The Studio Light & Fire 1 is the awkward case. The bullets describe an LED flame and do not give a plain yes for flame with the heater fully off. One of three UK reviews said the steps for turning the heat off completely were thin. Treat heat-off as unconfirmed until the booklet shows the step. Do not copy a button sequence from another model.

The remote

The remote is part of normal use, and it is also a known weak point. Bormio S reviews call the range short and say you need the remote for the thermostat and timer. Lausanne reviews call the handset flimsy. One taller Bormio review says the remote was missing after the carton was opened to fit a British plug. If the handset is not in the box, photograph what is missing and use the seller's returns route. Do not start drilling while you wait. A weekly timer and open-window detection appear on the Klarstein page for Bormio model 10032590. They are not stated on every ASIN here.

When it switches itself off

A heater that stops after the room reaches the temperature you set is doing what a thermostat does. Studio reviews describe that cut-out. Lausanne reviews describe a heater that can come on at a set temperature. The Bormio titles put an adjustable thermostat on the listing. If the flame stays lit and the air from the outlet goes cool, check the set point before you call the unit faulty. The fan is the noise you hear when heat is selected. Lausanne and Bormio reviews call it noisy. A unit that never produces heat is a different problem: Bormio S reviews include units that failed within weeks. Leave the inlet and the outlet clear. Electrical Safety First advises against leaving a portable heater on overnight.

Where you stop

Electrical Safety First and Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue give the same practical frame. Use a UK three-pin plug, keep the fire about one metre from curtains and furniture, do not run it from an extension lead, do not dry washing on it, and do not cover the grilles. A guard made to BS 8423:2010+A2:2022 must not sit over the vents. Keep that load on a wall socket you can see. The buying guide treats the wattage as a top-up. Buried cable, a fused spur, a new circuit, or a kitchen or bathroom needs an electrician, as does a wall that may not hold the fire. The Bormio listings say freestanding. If drilling is the reason you are choosing, use the wall or freestanding page before you open the fixings pack.

Common questions

Can I have the flame with the heater off?
On the Lamington, the Lausanne, the Bormio S, and the taller Bormio, the listings say yes. Look for a separate flame or dimmer control in the booklet. The Studio file describes an LED flame and does not give the same plain yes. Use the booklet for your ASIN, not a manual for another model.
Why does the heater stop by itself?
Because a thermostat that has reached its set point switches the element off. The flame can stay on while the air goes cool. A fire that never heats, which shows up in Bormio S reviews as a dead unit, is not the same event. Cycling is normal. No heat at all is a return.
Can I use an extension lead?
No. Electrical Safety First says a portable heater should not run from an extension lead. These listings are 1900 W or 2000 W, and a coiled reel is a poor place for that load. Plug into a wall socket you can see. If the socket is in the wrong place, that is an electrician's job, not a longer lead across the hearth.
What if the remote is missing?
Photograph the empty compartment before you fit the fire. On the Bormio S, reviews say the remote is what you use for the thermostat and timer. On the taller Bormio, one UK review says the remote was missing after the carton was opened to fit a British plug. Contact the seller. Do not guess the buttons from another model's manual.
When do I stop and call an electrician?
Stop if the cable would be buried, if you need a fused spur or a new circuit, if the room is a kitchen or a bathroom, or if you cannot say the wall will hold the fire. Fitting a new plug yourself is not a job this page describes. If the plug in the carton is wrong, use the seller's route.
