When the joint is a pipe

If the part must stay rigid and round, you want solvent cement on PVC-U. It softens the pipe and the socket so the joint fuses. In this set that side is Bond It at £7.00, 4.3 from 21 reviews; a Soudal-titled jar at £6.99, 5.0 from one review and no text; and XINGHUO pipe adhesive at £13.99, 4.6 from 10, with no United Kingdom review text. None prints a PN class. Bond It’s cold-water bullet has no WRAS number, so it is not an approval under the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999. The primer sentence is for ABS, not a promise that PVC-U needs no preparation.

When the skin has to flex

If the part must bend or hold air, you want a film that stays flexible with plasticised PVC. GleamGlee is £8.99, 4.2 from 177, with pools that held and air beds that did not. EPN is about 225 ml at £19.99 with a 24-hour line. KKwoter is £7.99 with a 48-hour bullet, and the item weight of 50 g does not confirm the 2 × 60 ml title. Allony is 5.0 from three ratings and names no repair. A patch kit does not fuse a socket. One KKwoter review on 20 mm uPVC conduit is not a solvent-weld claim. Much of EPN’s count is fletching glue. Polypropylene push-fit waste takes neither cement nor kit.

Two labels that cause the wrong swap

Pool-pipe cement is the first false friend. Weld-On 725 and Griffon WDF-05 are sold for rigid pool pipe and, on some sheets, for flexible hose up to a stated diameter and pressure. Flexible hose there is a pipe joint, not the skin of a paddling pool. Those tins are not rows in this amazon set. The second false friend is a wide materials list. XINGHUO’s inflatable bullets name rubber, ceramic, glass, metal, fabric, paper and wood. That list does not make a solvent weld. A lot of UK waste is ABS or polypropylene. Bond It names ABS with its own primer note. Polypropylene push-fit is neither cement nor kit.

The swap, and what this page will not decide

Use solvent cement when the part is rigid PVC-U and must stay round. Use a flexible kit when the part is plasticised PVC and must bend or hold air. Do not cross them, and do not let a 5.0 from one or three reviews overrule that split. This page will not choose a boat adhesive. Polymarine is for listed PVC inflatables, and one review said a rubber tender was the wrong fabric. It will not choose a pond cartridge. Oase UniFix+ is applied dry to film, not brushed onto a pool ring. Open time and cure change with the tin, so they are not averaged here.

Common questions

Can I use PVC pipe cement on an air bed or paddling pool?
No. Pipe cement is there to weld rigid PVC-U. An air bed and a paddling pool are plasticised PVC, and they flex every time you fold or lean on them. A rigid cured line cracks or peels. The reviews on the kit side of this set already include patches that failed when the item was inflated too soon.
Can I use inflatable repair glue on a waste fitting?
No. A patch kit sticks a flexible film. It does not soften a socket and fuse it the way solvent cement does. One KKwoter review mentions 20 mm uPVC conduit. That is a single review, not a pipe-cement specification, and the pack weight does not match the title fill.
What is the difference between rigid PVC-U and plasticised PVC?
Rigid PVC-U holds a pipe round. Plasticised PVC has softener in it so a pool wall or an air-bed seam can fold. They are bonded with different adhesive families. Solvent cement is the rigid side. A flexible repair film or a two-part boat adhesive is the soft side.
My pool pipe says flexible hose cement. Is that the pool skin?
No. On pool-trade sheets, flexible hose is still a pipe joint, limited by diameter and pressure. The coloured vinyl of a paddling pool is a skin. Weld-On 725 and Griffon WDF-05 are examples of that pipe language, and they are not the inflatable kits in this set.
The listing says it also bonds rubber and metal. Does that make it universal?
No. XINGHUO’s inflatable bullets list rubber, ceramic, glass, metal, fabric, paper and wood. A wide list is not a specification, and it does not make the bottle a solvent weld for waste pipe. Match one named job. If you need a rigid socket, leave that bottle on the kit side of this page.
What if the waste pipe is polypropylene or ABS?
Polypropylene push-fit does not solvent-weld, so neither pipe cement nor an inflatable kit is the repair. You replace or reseal that joint the way the waste system was designed. ABS is a different plastic. Bond It’s listing names it and limits the no-primer line to ABS, which is not the same instruction as for PVC-U.
