Four products share the name

Solvent cement fuses rigid PVC-U if you follow that pipe’s jointing sheet. Here that is Bond It at £7.00, a Soudal-titled jar at £6.99 with one review and no text, and XINGHUO pipe adhesive at £13.99 with no United Kingdom review text. None prints a PN class. A patch kit is for plasticised PVC that must still bend: GleamGlee has the large UK file, EPN states 24 hours, and KKwoter states 48 hours. They are not a socket weld. Polymarine, mixed at 25:1, is for listed PVC inflatables. Oase names EPDM, rubber or PVC film applied dry. Match the tin to the plastic

Rigid PVC-U can take a cement that names hard PVC or uPVC. Plasticised PVC folds, so a rigid weld cracks and a patch kit will not fuse a pressure socket. Much UK waste is ABS or polypropylene push-fit, and polypropylene does not solvent-weld. Bond It’s no-primer line is for ABS, not for PVC or uPVC. Hypalon is a different fabric: one UK review said a rubber tender was the wrong use for Polymarine. Oase is applied dry and above the water, and its material field says PVA, which fights the film bullets. Do not use that cartridge as an air-bed patch because the label says PVC.

Mains water is a separate fork

In England and Wales, a mains-water fitting has to meet the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999. A WRAS approval is a named cement and a named cure. Tangit PVC-U Plus, in the directory extract, is 24 hours at 7 °C and only up to the temperature on that approval. Bond It’s cold-water bullet and the Soudal jar’s water uses show no WRAS number in this capture, and no listing prints a PN class. Griffon UNI-100 at about £11.39, sold as PN 16, is outside this amazon set. Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own fittings rules. Gas belongs to a competent person under the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998.

What to check on the tin

Use the cure printed on that tin. EPN and Allony say 24 hours, KKwoter says 48 hours, and GleamGlee states none. Polymarine’s amazon page gives no cure. The maker’s sheet says no pressure for at least 6 hours, full cure at 48 hours and maximum strength at 7 days. Oase prints 24 hours in one field and 24–48 hours in a bullet. Allony’s pack says 170 g and 170 ml. KKwoter’s title says two 60 ml bottles and the item weight is 50 g. One Bond It review says the lid brush broke. One Polymarine order had no curative. UK reviews say the Oase nozzle was missing. Allony is 5.0 from three ratings and the only review body names no repair.

Common questions

What kind of PVC adhesive do I need?
You need the product that matches the plastic, not the strongest word on a bullet. Rigid PVC-U pipe and sheet take a solvent cement such as the Bond It or Soudal-titled jars in this set. A paddling pool or air bed takes a flexible patch kit. A listed PVC inflatable boat takes a two-part such as Polymarine. Pond film takes Oase, applied dry.
Is solvent cement the same as inflatable repair glue?
No. Solvent cement softens rigid PVC-U so a socket can fuse. Inflatable repair glue has to stay flexible with plasticised PVC. Using the pipe jar on an air bed leaves a film that cracks when the bed is folded. Using a patch kit on a pressure pipe does not make a solvent weld.
Does a drinking-water bullet mean the tin is WRAS approved?
No. A WRAS approval is for a named cement and a named cure. Bond It’s cold-water bullet and the Soudal jar’s water uses are listing text. This capture does not show a WRAS number for those tins, and none of the ten listings prints a PN class.
Can one tin do a waste pipe and an air bed?
Not if one part is rigid PVC-U and the other is soft inflatable PVC. The waste fitting needs a cement that welds a socket. The air bed needs a film that flexes. Polypropylene push-fit waste takes neither, because it does not solvent-weld. Buy for the part in your hand.
When is a two-part boat adhesive the right buy?
When the fabric is PVC, the hole is in a boat tube, and a toy patch is too small for the tear. Polymarine in this set is £29.75, two-part, and the maker’s ratio is 25:1. Skip it for Hypalon, for a rubber tender, or if the curative is not in the box.
When should I call a plumber or a boat repairer?
Call a plumber for a mains joint you cannot match to an approval, and for any gas fitting. Call a boat repairer for a liferaft or for a PVC tear that needs an inside patch because the damage exceeds 75 mm in any direction on Polymarine’s guide. Call a liner specialist if you cannot get the film dry.
