Security camera and smart lock: two jobs at one door

A security camera and a smart lock do different jobs. The PPIC46520 names Smartvest, not a Yale or Nuki latch. Check aim, mains power and the ICO rule.

You are at the front door with two boxes: a lock and a camera, often a lamp for the existing porch light. A security camera and a smart lock answer different questions on the same brickwork. None of the six ABUS listings we read on amazon.co.uk on 15 October 2026 says the camera can pull a latch back.
In short
A camera and a lock can share a door and still be two products. The ABUS PPIC46520, at £239.82 on 15 October 2026, is a 230 volt lamp-camera whose bullets name the Smartvest wireless alarm, not Yale or Nuki. If the picture reaches a pavement or a neighbour, the ICO home CCTV guide applies.
A security camera and a smart lock do two jobs
A camera clip shows a person, a parcel, or an empty step. A lock event, where the listing includes a log, shows a code, a key, an app command, or a fingerprint match. We did not extract an activity-log bullet from the Yale or Nuki files, so confirm a log on the lock you buy. A face in a clip is not proof the latch moved.
The PPIC46520 table says batteries are not required, so a dark picture usually means power, Wi-Fi, or a full card. Yale states four AA cells and a 9 volt terminal. The Nuki models use a rechargeable pack. A flat lock battery can leave you outside while the camera still records the step.
A keyless lock and CCTV still leave two standards. Allianz says most insurers still want a traditional BS 3621 lock alongside a smart lock. None of the eleven smart locks we kept prints BS 3621 or TS 007. Ask the insurer before you remove a cylinder. The smart door lock comparison is the door, and the camera comparison is the picture.
What this ABUS set actually connects to
The lamp is the ABUS PPIC46520, ASIN B0C6626ZL7, model 98144. On 15 October 2026 the amazon.co.uk price was £239.82, with 4.0 from 118 ratings. Bullets claim up to 1,000 lumens, a 10 metre lighting range, a 120 degree view, two-way audio, and App2Cam Plus with no fee. The table says 230 volts, 17 watts, and 128 GB of flash; the bullets mention a microSD card. The listing says outdoor, metal, black, and IP66. The pixel count is absent.
That Smartvest line does not name a door lock, a keypad, or a motor. We did not test a Smartvest panel, and we did not test whether an alarm event can pull a latch.
App2Cam Plus is named on the PPIC46520, the outdoor 4K PPIC54520B at £148.66, and the indoor PPIC31020 at £96.47. The EasyLook BasicSet, at £350.99, is a camera plus a portable monitor. Its bullets say no internet, its table says Wi-Fi, and reviews say you cannot watch it away from home. A Yale lock will not share App2Cam Plus because the boxes share a door.
The 4.0 from 118 ratings is the listing's number, not a British test. On the EasyLook, the review text is almost all labelled Germany. Consumer Rights Act 2015 section 9 ties satisfactory quality to the description and the price. A missing unlock command is not a fault when the description never offered one.
A smart lock with camera is two listings
A smart lock with camera is a lock page plus a camera page. In the 15 October 2026 files they are not a kit. Yale Keyless Connected was £70.32 in chrome and £68.00 in black, both 4.1 from 1,099. The chrome bullets say the 60 mm nightlatch is not included. The app needs a separate Access Module. That module is still not a camera.
The Conexis L2, at £188.98, is a lift-to-lock handle for PVC and composite doors from 44 to 70 millimetres, with the Wi-Fi bridge and no outside keyhole. Yale's UK site states a BSI IoT Kitemark for that model. That line is not an Amazon bullet, and it is not BS 3621.
The Nuki Pro, B0DX2FPQFQ, was £229.00 in the file we used, 4.3 from 1,190. A same-day search showed £179.00. The key stays inside, so the cylinder needs an emergency function or you can lock yourself out. The Ultra, at £309.00, includes a new cylinder and Wi-Fi. PreparedBritain says that cylinder has no BS 3621 or Sold Secure claim.
A video doorbell and a smart lock split the same way: the doorbell shows the caller and does not retract the latch. A fingerprint lock camera search is two products, because a print sensor is not a lens. Those files run from busy levers around £31.99–£40.99 to Simpled at £279.99, and reviewers put the levers on internal doors. Bolts and magnets start around £21–£29.
Aim at the path, then check the boundary
Aim at the step, the person, and the parcel. If the frame includes the keypad, the clip can show the code. The PPIC46520 claims 120 degrees from an outdoor light, so a porch often includes the path and, on many UK doors, the pavement. The body is 13.5 by 7 by 18.1 centimetres and 1.04 kilograms.
It sits on a 230 volt, 17 watt lighting circuit, not a USB lead and not the 12 volt EasyLook set. If you are not competent to work on outdoor mains, hire someone who is. We did not extract a notifiable-work table from Approved Document P, so this page does not say whether a like-for-like lamp swap must be notified. Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland have their own rules.
The ICO home CCTV guide, fetched on 15 October 2026, was under review after the Data (Use and Access) Act. Beyond your boundary you need a clear reason, you should not capture more than you need, you should let people know, and you should usually release footage if someone asks, within one calendar month. The ICO will not usually remove a neighbour's camera. The Surveillance Camera Code on GOV.UK was withdrawn on 17 February 2022.
If both households film the door, each camera is judged on its own frame. A communal stair, a rented door, or a listed wall needs permission before you drill. We did not measure this lamp on a real UK porch.
Which comparison to open next
The ABUS security camera comparison holds these six listings, from the indoor cube at £96.47 to EasyLook at £350.99. Choose the PPIC46520 when an outdoor light is already there and you accept 230 volt work.
Open the electronic door lock comparison for a bolt, a magnet, or another powered fastening. Open the fingerprint door opener comparison for a print sensor. Those levers are a poor only lock on a final exit.
Products Compared used the amazon.co.uk listings loaded on 15 October 2026, the ICO home CCTV guide, and Consumer Rights Act 2015 section 9. There was no lab test and no pairing test. Prices move. A qualifying purchase through an amazon.co.uk link can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.
