Corded or cordless SDS drill

Updated: 2026-10-23

You are choosing how the drill gets its power, not how hard it hits. Five of these six SDS-Plus hammers are corded. One is a 20 V kit with a single battery, and none is a 110 V site tool. Beside a socket, a corded 230 V drill is the usual buy. Buy the battery kit only if the lead is the problem, and do not take a 230 V tool onto a managed site that expects 110 V without asking. The six rows are the [hammer drill SDS plus comparison](/hub/drilling-and-accessories/hammer-drill-sds-plus). Prices are those listings. What this set actually offers

The corded drills are the DongCheng DZC05-26B at £47.17, the Stanew at £54.99, the Bosch PBH 2100 RE at £59.94, the Draper at £68.39 and the Enventor at £84.99. The only cordless tool is the Dong Cheng DCZC22 at £79.99, with one 4.0 Ah 20 V battery, a charger, a case and a stated 2.1 J. The DongCheng corded says 240 V, the Bosch table says 220 V, and the Enventor says 230 V. All three sit in the UK 230 V band, with a BS 1363 plug. The Draper and the Stanew do not state voltage. A blank cell is not 110 V. Nothing here is listed as 110 V.

When the lead is the right tool

Beside a socket, the lead does not fade halfway through a lintel. The Bosch at £59.94 and 2.2 kg is the light corded body, at 4.6 from 1,683 reviews. The DongCheng corded at £47.17 states 2.8 J. The Enventor at £84.99 states 6 J and 32 mm in concrete. Those joule lines are in the SDS drill buying guide. Skip the lead where the cable crosses a wet patio. A corded drill still needs an RCD-protected socket.

When the battery kit is the right tool

Buy the DCZC22 when the lead is in the way: a short run of plugs, no socket, or a ladder you do not want a cable on. You get one 4.0 Ah pack, a charger and 2.1 J stated, at 4.5 from 100 reviews. Several buyers say the battery lasts. At least two returned it after a very short run. The listing promises no runtime. Do not copy DeWalt's holes-per-charge claim for a DCH273 onto this kit. Packs are DongCheng 20 V Max, not an 18 V DeWalt, Makita or Bosch battery. There is no second pack. If the job needs a spare, the corded drill at £47.17 is the alternative.

230 V at home, 110 V on site

At home, a 230 V SDS drill on a BS 1363 socket with RCD protection is the normal purchase. On a managed site the usual control is a 110 V centre-tapped supply, about 55 V to earth, or a battery tool. HSE points to battery tools or that reduced voltage where it is damp. There is no single statute that bans every 230 V tool on every site, and many sites still require 110 V or cordless. Ask before you bring the Bosch or the Enventor. None of these six is listed as 110 V. A blank voltage cell on the Draper or the Stanew is not a site plug.

Common questions

Is corded better for a house?
If a socket is in the room, yes for this set. The corded drills run from £47.17 to £84.99, they do not fade with a battery, and the lightest body is the Bosch at 2.2 kg. Cordless is better when the lead itself is the hazard or the nuisance. Better here means matched to the socket, not a lab ranking. A long extension across a wet floor is a reason to prefer the kit, not a reason to call every corded drill wrong.
How long does a 4.0 Ah SDS battery last?
This listing does not say. Reviews of the Dong Cheng kit split between buyers who are happy and at least two who returned it after a very short run. That is not a holes-per-charge test. DeWalt's more than 90 holes line belongs to a different model. Budget a second battery if the first one dying would stop the job.
Do I need 110 V?
At home, no. You need a tool in the 230 V class and a BS 1363 plug. On a managed building site, ask. The usual rule is 110 V centre-tapped or cordless, especially where it is damp, which is the HSE point. There is no single statute that says every site in Britain must be 110 V, and plenty of sites still will not accept your 230 V drill. None of these six is listed as 110 V.
Which of these six is cordless?
Only the Dong Cheng DCZC22, ASIN B0DMNGY79V, at £79.99. It is 20 V, brushless, with 2.1 J stated. The DongCheng DZC05-26B, the Stanew, the Bosch PBH 2100 RE, the Draper 76490 and the Enventor are corded. The similar DongCheng name is a different tool with a lead, at £47.17 and 2.8 J. Do not mix the two ASINs because the brand looks the same.
Does the cordless one include the battery?
Yes. The bullets list one 4.0 Ah 20 V battery, a fast charger, four SDS-Plus bits and a case. They do not list a second pack. The listing says it fits DongCheng 20 V Max tools and does not name other brands. If your other tools are 18 V DeWalt or Makita, this battery will not join that platform. The charger has to live somewhere you can actually plug it in.
