Hotel door stop alarm

Updated: October 2026

You are packing for a solo night in a UK hotel, a Travelodge, or an Airbnb, and you want a noise if someone pushes the room door. A hotel door stop alarm is a wedge on the floor inside an inward-opening door. It is an extra sound, not a lock, and it only works if that door has a gap and you can kick the wedge aside. The listings are on the [alarm door stop comparison](/hub/door-and-window-security/alarm-door-stop). Peter F. used amazon.co.uk listings and United Kingdom review notes on 19 October 2026. What travellers in the reviews were trying to solve

Miangerrn's only United Kingdom review bought the Y-104 after a hotel issued the wrong key to an occupied room. Two AAA batteries were in that box, and the lower volume was already very loud. One 5.0 cannot promise the next parcel. The shared Mengshen pool, 4.3 from 2,290, holds solo trips, a London hotel, and an Airbnb door with no gap. TECKNET's own 4.4 from 557 is full of hotel, Airbnb, and Travelodge nights, and the repeated line is to charge it before you go. KERUI reviews include a holiday that nearly had no alarm because the 9V was at home. Use the lock the room already has. A wedge does not replace it.

Pack the power, then test the gap

KERUI, Mengshen, and Lomuna need a 9V that is not in the box. Put the cell in the bag with the wedge. TECKNET TK-HA003, about £13.99, is the easier suitcase object if you charge the USB-C cell at home. Reviewers often needed about two hours, not one. KERUI asks for at least 8–10 mm under the door. A Lomuna reviewer needed about 20 mm. TECKNET states no gap. Test once, standing back from the speaker. The sequence for any room is on how to use a door stop alarm. Start on low sensitivity.

The way out

You have to leave the room at once. Park the wedge where your foot can kick it clear. Practise that once with the light on. Do not wedge a corridor or stair fire door. Avon Fire and Rescue say those doors must not be wedged open. GOV.UK's checks include doors wedged open, and Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue say never prop a fire door. These sirens do not talk to the hotel panel. If a 9V bay gets hot, take the cell out. You still sleep behind the room lock.

When a wedge is the wrong travel tool

Leave the wedge in the bag if the room door opens outwards, if there is almost no gap, or if you were about to block a corridor fire door. A handle alarm hangs on the handle, needs no gap, and does not hold the door. The split is on door stop alarm vs door handle alarm. If the lock itself is the problem, ask the hotel to move you or to fix it.

Common questions

Can I use a door stop alarm in a hotel room?
Yes, on your own inward-opening room door, if there is a gap of roughly 8–10 mm or more and you can kick the wedge aside. Travellers in the TECKNET, Mengshen, and Miangerrn reviews use them for hotel, Airbnb, and Travelodge nights. Use the room lock as well. The wedge does not connect to the hotel fire alarm. If the door opens outwards, leave it in the bag.
What if the hotel door has almost no gap?
The alarm will not load. A Mengshen reviewer found an Airbnb door with no gap, so the wedge did nothing on that trip. KERUI states at least 8–10 mm, and carpet plus a tight gap let the door push the stop along in a KERUI review. Do not sand the door or rip the seal off. Use the lock. If you still want a portable noise, a handle alarm does not need a floor gap.
Should I pack a 9V battery?
Yes, if the wedge is a KERUI, Mengshen, or Lomuna. The PP3 is not in the box, and reviews include holidays that nearly had no alarm. Jognee uses LR44 and does not confirm they are included. TECKNET is USB-C: pack the cable and charge before you travel, because some reviewers needed a few hours rather than one. Miangerrn's only review found AAA cells in that box, which is not a promise for every parcel.
Will this set off the hotel fire alarm?
No. These are standalone sirens. They do not join the hotel panel, and they do not call security. A loud blast can annoy the next room, so test once, briefly, with the unit on the floor. Wedging a corridor fire door is a separate problem: Avon Fire and Rescue say those doors must not be wedged open. Your room siren is not a reason to interfere with the building's doors.
Is this instead of using the hotel lock?
No. Lock the door with the hardware the room already has, then add the wedge if the swing and the gap allow it. A wrong key, which is why the Miangerrn reviewer bought one, is a hotel process failure. A wedge would have made a noise. It would not have stopped the key working in the lock.
Can I wedge the corridor fire door as well?
No. Corridor and stair fire doors have to self-close. Avon Fire and Rescue, GOV.UK, and Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue say they must not be wedged open. A guest stop is not a legal hold-open. The only door in play is your room door, and only if you can still leave through it immediately.
