Door stop alarm buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You are about to put a plastic wedge in an amazon.co.uk basket for a spare room or a hotel night. The listing shouts 120 dB or 130 dB, and the stars look like the decision. This door stop alarm buying guide is the checks that should knock a listing out first: which way the door swings, the gap under it, the floor, and whether you will have a cell that night. The eight listings are in the [alarm door stop comparison](/hub/door-and-window-security/alarm-door-stop). Peter F. read those pages and the United Kingdom review notes on 19 October 2026. What has to be true of the door

These stops are for a door that opens inwards. An outward door never loads the plate. KERUI asks for at least 8–10 mm. Jognee states 10–25 mm. A Lomuna reviewer needed about 20 mm before the plate switched. TECKNET states no gap. A fire door is the wrong object for a guest wedge, and many fire-door bottoms are tighter than 10 mm. Under about 8 mm, read door stop alarm vs door handle alarm.

Floor and false alarms

Carpet pile, a threshold strip, and a carpet-edge tread are the usual misses in the Mengshen review pool. The wedge slides and the plate never clicks. KERUI warns against very smooth tile, laminate, or wood when sensitivity is high. Three levels appear on both KERUI pages, both Mengshen pages, and the Lomuna 2-pack. Jognee names no sensitivity switch. Miangerrn's only review talks about two volume levels. TECKNET uses a roller. Test on the carpet you will leave it on. The night-of test is on how to use a door stop alarm.

Battery, USB-C, or nothing in the box

Leave price until you know the cell. KERUI, Mengshen, and Lomuna each ask for a 9V that is not in the box. About £8.98 is not a working alarm without a fresh PP3. Jognee, at about £7.69, names 3 x LR44 and does not say they are included. Miangerrn's only review says two AAA batteries were in that box. TECKNET, at about £13.99, is USB-C. Reviewers often needed about two hours, not the one hour on the bullet. You still charge it before you leave.

What the siren number and the star line do not prove

Treat 120 dB, 125 dB, and 130 dB as claims. Miangerrn states no number. None was measured here. The Health and Safety Executive's workplace peak action of 135 dB(C) is employment law, not a certificate for a door stop. Mengshen's single and 3-pack both show 4.3 from 2,290 as one pool. TECKNET's 4.4 from 557 is its own pool. Miangerrn's 5.0 is one rating. Jognee's 4.0 from 85 is a real count, and two of six captured texts say the unit did not work. A wedge does not meet BS 3621 or TS 007.

Common questions

Will a door stop alarm work on a door that opens outwards?
No. The wedge has to sit inside a door that opens inwards, so the door presses the plate. An outward door or a slider never loads it. You might set the siren off with your hand. You will not get a warning from someone pushing that door. If the only door you care about opens outwards, a floor wedge is the wrong type.
How much gap do I need under the door?
Measure the closed door on the real floor. KERUI states at least 8–10 mm. Jognee states 10–25 mm. A Lomuna reviewer needed about 20 mm before the plate switched, and the thin end blocked the door without a sound. TECKNET does not state a gap. A fire-door bottom is often tighter, and a fire door should not be wedged. Under about 8 mm, look at a handle alarm.
Does the box include a battery?
On KERUI, Mengshen, and Lomuna, the 9V is not included. Jognee names 3 x LR44 and does not say they are supplied. Miangerrn's bullets do not name the cell; the only review says two AAA batteries were in that box. TECKNET has a built-in USB-C cell and still needs a charge before the first night. Buy the PP3 with a 9V wedge if you are travelling this week.
Is 130 dB a measured figure?
Not in this comparison. Jognee and TECKNET claim up to 130 dB, KERUI and Lomuna claim 125 dB, and Mengshen claims 120 dB. Miangerrn gives no number. No listing here shows a distance, a weighting, or a method we could treat as a test. The HSE peak action of 135 dB(C) is a workplace figure, not a certificate. Test on the floor, and do not hold the speaker next to an ear.
Why do two Mengshen pages show the same 2,290 reviews?
The single, B01MF5FLIY, and the 3-pack, B00QIEVVKU, share 4.3 from 2,290 and the same captured review text. It is one pool, not two crowds. The 3-pack is about £16.99 against about £8.98. Per unit it is cheaper only if all three work. One review in that pool said only two of three did. Do not add the two star counts together.
What should I do if the battery compartment gets hot?
Switch it off, take the cell out, and do not put it back under the door. One KERUI single reviewer fitted the 9V and the unit became very hot and smelt of burning. That is a fault. If it arrived that way, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 gives 30 days to reject goods that are not of satisfactory quality. A warm case is a reason to pick a different ASIN.
