Edge band trimmer buying guide

Updated: 23 October 2026

Two listings that both sit at 4.4 are not the same cut. An edge band trimmer either takes both overhangs in one pass, shaves one face, or only rounds a corner you have already flushed. Buy the cut first, then the thickness the page actually prints, and only then the rating. The scored rows are on the [edge band trimmer comparison](/hub/diy-supplies/edge-band-trimmer). Peter F. used the saved listings and the UK review themes, not a workshop trial. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Four cuts, not one product

A double-edge trimmer cuts both overhangs, then often splits for a wider edge. In this set that is the Virutex AU93 at £29.23, 4.4 from 830 ratings. The bullets say edges up to 40 mm and do not name a tape thickness. Too little pressure leaves the tape proud. Too much cuts the face. A V-notch cuts one face at a time. The Feabolee at £3.89 is that shape. The Yosoo at £17.99 is a metal plane, and the ANTREATU at £20.99 is bearing-guided. Axminster’s 200099, from £11.48, and the CMT DET-001 at £22.80 including VAT are shop context, not rows here.

Thickness before the brand

Read the roll before the brand. Ney’s PDF states 0.6 mm maximum tape thickness for the AU93, and 40 mm when both sides are cut together. Ostermann groups that trimmer up to 1 mm and sends 2 mm to a router. The caps do not match, and neither figure is in the amazon bullets. Do not copy 0.6 mm onto the other listings. Forty millimetres is the board edge, not the tape. A 22 mm or 54 mm roll width is a third number. It is not permission to flush-cut 2 mm ABS. When the roll is about 2 mm, use thin tape or 2 mm. Ney names spare set 2850083, six blades, and prints no GBP price here.

What the cheap tools are actually selling

Under about £7 you are buying a V-notch and sometimes a second blade, not a tested thickness. The Feabolee’s 12 mm field is a cutting width. The model name says orange and the colour field says Silver. The 50 percent thicker line is not a measurement. The Kaaeiccr is £5.59 with 5.0 from one UK review. The Kynigo is £5.49 with 5.0 from one review marked United States. The Xelsluthe at £6.99 names a spare blade and has no star line. The JINGXI and the Sotbnna pair also have no Customer Reviews line. A 5.0 from one rating will sort above 4.4 from 830 if you sort by stars. That is the wrong order.

The arc trimmer is a later pass

The Saker’s R1 line says 0.8–2 mm and R2 says 1.5–2.0 mm. The ranges overlap, and R3 is for wood. UK reviews inside the 3.9 from 304 line describe a chamfer, ripped tape, and boxes short of three blades. There is no fine adjustment. The review count does not make it the flush tool. On the AU93, ignore Pink, Wood and USB. The title says turquoise, and the model is PERFILADOR AU93.

Common questions

Do I need a tool that cuts both faces at once?
You need both faces in one pass when you will repeat thin iron-on tape. The AU93 bullets state that up to 40 mm, then a split for wider edges. A V-notch still flush-cuts, one face at a time. Both faces is a time saving, not a different tape. The little tag at the end of the board is still a separate cut.
Is 40 mm the tape thickness or the board thickness?
On the AU93 bullets, 40 mm is the edge width for cutting both sides together. It is not the thickness of the plastic. Ney’s PDF is the place that states 0.6 mm as the AU93 tape cap, and Ostermann groups the tool up to 1 mm. The amazon listing does not print either cap. A roll marked 22 mm or 54 mm is the width of the tape, which has to cover the board edge, and that number is not 40 mm either.
Why do some listings have no star rating?
The JINGXI, the Sotbnna pair and the Xelsluthe had no Customer Reviews line in the captured file, so the comparison shows no stars rather than a guessed score. A 5.0 from one rating, on the Kaaeiccr and the Kynigo, is a real line and a tiny sample. The Kynigo text is marked United States. Sort by whether the tool is a flush cut, and by how many UK notes describe that cut, before you sort by the star.
Does the Saker flush-cut, or only chamfer?
UK reviews say it chamfers, and that you still need an edge band trimmer for the flush cut. The smallest blade has been used to tidy oak after that flush cut. The R1 and R2 ranges look like a thickness promise and overlap each other. They are not a measured flush-cut capacity for 2 mm ABS. If the box is short of R1, R2 and R3, you also do not have the set the title named.
Where do AU93 blades come from when they dull?
Ney names set 2850083, six blades, and does not print a price on the page used here. The amazon bullets say the twin blades are replaceable when worn. They do not say a spare set is in the carton. UK reviews describe blades that blunt after a project and then tear the strip. Plan a replacement before a long run, and do not force a dull edge through the last door.
Is a £4 V-notch the same job as the AU93?
It can be the same flush cut on thin tape, one face at a time, for a short run. It is not the same tool. The Feabolee has 49 ratings against 830, no spare in the box, and a UK note of a blade blunt after about 2 metres. For a few shelves, the cheaper notch is the one to open if you will sand.
