Dyson purifier or fan heater

Updated: 21 October 2026

You are choosing between a sealed purifier and a fan heater, and the two prices sit near £400 as if they were the same object. This Dyson purifier or fan heater page splits that choice for the machines in the [Dyson fan comparison](/hub/cooling/dyson-fan). Buy the filter machines for particles, and buy the AM09 for a stated 2,000 W with no filter contract. Peter F. did not lab-test airflow or heat. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The HushJet Mini is not this decision. It is a 210 g cordless fan at about £99, with no filter and no heater.

Three corded jobs, not one

The PC1 is a purifier and a fan at about £449, with HEPA H13, MyDyson and 40 W. The bullets do not describe a heater. Buy it when you never need heat. Skip it when cooling in the title is why you clicked. That mismatch fills the 3.6 from 86 reviews. The HP1 claims heat as well, at about £449 and 4.4 from 84, with 40 W on the table and no voltage. One review says that delivery had no Wi-Fi. The AM09 is the fan heater: about £399.99, 2,000 W, 230 V and 12.5 A, and a cord in the box. It is the top pick for stated heat, and the wrong buy if you need the air cleaned. The HP00 at about £379 does not claim an app and prints no watts. It is not a cheaper HP1.

The £75 filter

Filter 965432-01 is £75 on a 12-month interval, and Dyson names the HP1 and the PC1. Unplug first, or change it sooner if the machine alerts you. The first year on an about £449 purifier is the tower plus about £75. The AM09 lists a cord, not a cartridge. The HP00 is not on that list. The PC1 cell says HEPA while the bullets say HEPA H13, so buy the cartridge Dyson names for the model. If you will not pay £75 within a year, the purifier is a weaker buy than the shelf price suggests. If pollen is the job, the AM09 will not do it.

40 W, 26.6 W and 2,000 W

The amazon HP1 cell prints 40 W. That is not the heater. The bullets claim heating and the table prints no separate heat output, so the heater wattage on this ASIN is unresolved. Dyson’s 2,050 W footnote is a comparison on dyson.co.uk, not a statement that this listing draws 2,050 W. The PC1’s 40 W sits on a machine with no heater claim, so it is at least a fan-mode cell. The AM09 prints 2,000 W with 230 V and 12.5 A. The ecodesign sheet lists fan power at 26.6 W. That fan row does not cancel the 2,000 W cell. The table’s 2 speeds clash with the bullets, so trust the heat cell and check the speed control on the unit. Both heaters carry the ecodesign line well insulated spaces or occasional use. That is occasional heat, not all-night use.

Which one, on what condition

Choose the PC1 for particles and a breeze if you will add £75 and you do not need heat. Choose the HP1 for particles and heat if you accept that 40 W is not the heater wattage and Wi-Fi is in the box. Choose the AM09 for the 2,000 W cell if you do not want a filter contract. Choose the HP00 only if about £379 with no app and no wattage cells is honestly enough. The HushJet does not break this tie. If the room must be colder, none of these vents heat outside. The sequence for breeze, filter, heat and a fan you can hold is the Dyson fan buying guide.

Common questions

Should I buy the purifier or the fan heater?
Buy the purifier, PC1 or HP1, if particles are the job and you will pay for filter 965432-01. Buy the AM09 fan heater if you want 2,000 W and 230 V written on the listing and you do not need HEPA. Buy the HP1 rather than the AM09 only when you need both the filter and heat, and the box matches the app claim. One best Dyson does not cover both jobs.
Does the AM09 clean the air?
Not in the way the HP1 and PC1 claim. This listing has no HEPA filter, and the included components are a cord. Moving air is not the same as a sealed filtration system. If allergies are the reason for the purchase, the AM09 is the wrong machine even though it is the top pick for stated heat.
Is the HP1’s 40 W the heater?
No. It is the only wattage cell on the amazon listing, next to bullets that say the machine heats. Dyson’s 2,050 W footnote is a comparison on dyson.co.uk, not the cell on this ASIN. Do not budget running cost as if 40 W were the element, and do not budget it as if 2,050 W were printed on amazon either. Read the rating plate.
What does the filter add to the first year?
About £75, from Dyson’s price for 965432-01, if you replace it at 12 months on an HP1 or a PC1. The shelf price of those two is about £449 before that. The AM09 does not add that line. The HP00 is not named for that cartridge, so do not add £75 to it until a compatible part is actually listed for HP00.
How is the HP00 different from the HP1?
The HP00 is about £379, with no app in the bullets, no watts and no volts, and 3.9 from 35 reviews. The HP1 claims MyDyson and prints 40 W beside a heating claim, at about £449 and 4.4 from 84. They share a Hot+Cool name. The cheaper one is not an HP1 with the app switched off.
