Bladeless fan vs tower fan

Updated: 21 October 2026

You searched bladeless fan vs tower fan because the two phrases look like two products. On amazon.co.uk they often are not. A loop fan hides the impeller in the base and blows from a ring. Most UK listings that say bladeless tower still have a rotor behind a grille. A cheaper tower may show blades, or hide them without using the word. This page separates those three layouts. The table is the [Bladeless fan comparison](/hub/cooling/bladeless-fan). Peter F. checked the kept listings and public UK sources on 19 October 2026. There was no lab test. Three layouts, one shopping word

The loop hides the impeller in the base and blows from a ring. Dyson’s Cool AM07 is the UK reference at £349.99, quiet mode 38 dBA and maximum 56 dBA, and it is not in this comparison. The hidden-impeller tower is the mass of the UK search. The bladeless claim sits on the DR-HTF017, both DR-HTF007 colours, the Cruiser Pro, the Levoit LTF-F422-WEU, the Midea, the MIANEI and the Princess. DREO’s copy for the white DR-HTF007 still names a rear grille and an impeller wheel. The Windi Mini does not use the word. A bladed tower shows blades, or hides them, without that claim, and often starts nearer £25–£50. The buying order is the bladeless fan buying guide.

Safety and cleaning are not the same as silence

No exposed blades helps with children and pets. A loop gives fingers less to find than a grille. The cable is still a trip, and Electrical Safety First still says not to leave a fan running overnight or while you are out. A loop is a wipe. A hidden-impeller tower still has a rotor, so you unplug before you open a cover, and only if the manual says it comes off. Steps are on how to use a bladeless fan. The Princess is bladeless and lists 52.6 dB, so “bladeless is quieter at every speed” fails in this set. Good Housekeeping’s testers have not seen a large gap versus regular tower fans, and neither type cools the air.

What you pay for

Dimplex’s £150–£200 floor is false here. The Princess is £67.89, DREO towers run £74.99 to £99.99, the Russell Hobbs is £30.89, and the EcoNour is £191.99. The Dyson loop is £349.99 outside the set. You are not paying for colder air. NHS advice still limits a fan to below 35°C. The white DR-HTF007 lists 120.0 and the Levoit 42-inch lists 24.0, while the black DR-HTF007 and the DR-HTF017 state 240 V. Eight hours is about 6 pence at 30 W and about 13 pence at 60 W, on Ofgem’s 26.32 pence per kWh for 1 October to 31 December 2026.

Which to choose

Choose a hidden-impeller tower around £75–£100 if you will check the plate. That is the black DR-HTF007, the best value, when the 240 V cells match the unit, or the DR-HTF017, the top pick, when you want four speeds and fewer clashes. Choose the AM07 only if the ring and £349.99 are the point. Choose a bladed tower if bladeless was only a safety word and a grille-covered blade is acceptable nearer £25–£50. Choose the Windi Mini, 33.5 cm and not labelled bladeless, when the person at the table is the whole job.

Common questions

Is a bladeless fan a different machine from a tower fan?
Sometimes. A Dyson-style loop is a ring on a base. A tower fan can be that loop, a hidden-impeller column, or a bladed column. On amazon.co.uk the phrase bladeless tower usually means the second of those, sold in the same bestseller chart as ordinary tower fans. The words are a listing claim. They are not a separate appliance class with one definition.
Does bladeless mean there is no rotor at all?
Not on the towers in this set. The impeller is hidden, not absent. DREO’s copy for the white DR-HTF007 mentions a removable rear grille and an impeller wheel. A loop puts that impeller in the base and blows from the ring. Either way there is a moving part. Bladeless means you should not see an exposed blade, which is a safety and a cleaning difference, not an empty box.
What is the difference between a Dyson-style loop and a DREO or Levoit tower?
The loop sends air out of a ring and entrains room air around it. Dyson’s AM07 page states the 15-times claim and up to 500 litres a second, at £349.99, and those figures stay on that page. A DREO or Levoit tower here is a tall column with a grille and a remote, around £75–£100, sold as bladeless. You clean the grille. You do not carry it by a ring it does not have.
Are bladeless fans safer with children and pets?
A housing without exposed blades gives fingers and paws less to touch, and a smooth loop does that more thoroughly than a grille with gaps. The cable, the intake and the overnight rule remain. Electrical Safety First still warns about bladed fans and still says not to leave electric fans running unattended. A closed case is a help. It is not a babysitter.
Are they quieter?
Not as a class. Low speeds on the DREO and Levoit towers are what reviewers call sleepable, and the higher speeds are not. The Princess lists 52.6 dB and is still sold as bladeless. A 20 dB title on a DREO is a low-speed claim beside a spec cell of 25 or 28 dB. Dimplex’s quieter award is a retail opinion. It is not a measurement of this set.
