Bladeless fan buying guide

Updated: 21 October 2026

You are about to buy a first bladeless fan for a UK home. Some listings are a ring with the impeller in the base, most are a tall tower with a rotor behind a grille, and a few are desk fans. A 20 dB line does not tell you which one you are holding. This bladeless fan buying guide puts the decisions in order: type, a 220–240 V supply with a BS 1363 plug, height, low-speed noise, then night controls. The [Bladeless fan comparison](/hub/cooling/bladeless-fan) ranks the kept listings. Peter F. checked those listings on 19 October 2026. There was no lab test. What you are actually buying

A loop fan hides the motor in the base and blows from a ring. Dyson’s Cool AM07 is that layout at £349.99 on dyson.co.uk, and it is not in this set. Most UK bladeless searches return a hidden-impeller tower: DREO, Levoit, Midea and MIANEI still have a rotor behind a rear grille. The Princess is 58 cm and the MIANEI is listed at 60 cm. The Windi Mini is 33.5 cm and does not say bladeless. The Russell Hobbs is a 30 cm USB fan. A Midea H13 claim or an EcoNour HEPA 13 claim is not a medical device. Who should take which model is on the best bladeless fan page.

Mains fit before the star rating

A mains fan for a UK socket should show about 220–240 V at 50 Hz on the rating plate, and it needs a BS 1363 plug with a BS 1362 fuse. That duty is regulation 35 of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016. A 5 V USB fan is not that case. The white DREO DR-HTF007, B0BT7LPSBY, lists 120.0. The Cruiser Pro lists 120.0 and 30 W in the attribute, and AC 220–240 V, 50 Hz and 50 W in the components line. The Levoit LTF-F422-WEU lists 24.0 on a corded tower. Trust the plate and a UK 3-pin plug. The black DR-HTF007 and the DR-HTF017 state 240 V. The Princess states 230 V. The Windi Mini states 220 V. A 4.6 star line does not repair a 120 V row.

Height, noise and night controls

Floor towers here run about 92–106 cm. A 58 cm Princess or a 60 cm MIANEI covers a smaller patch of floor. A 30 cm Russell Hobbs or a 33.5 cm Levoit mini is a personal fan. Printed noise runs from 20 dB to 52.6 dB and is not one lab method. The Princess at 52.6 dB is the outlier. Quiet Mark on the Russell Hobbs is a noise programme, not permission to leave a fan on all night. Night controls are a remote, a timer and a dark display. The 35°C limit is on bladeless fan for the bedroom.

What the pounds buy

Shelf prices in the saved listings, not a live recheck: Russell Hobbs £30.89, Windi Mini £59.99, Princess £67.89, DR-HTF017 £74.99, both DR-HTF007 colours £79.99 with one shared 4.6 from 47,486. Do not add that count. Levoit 42-inch £89.99, Cruiser Pro £99.99, then MIANEI £139.99, Midea £149.99 and EcoNour £191.99. Eight hours at Ofgem’s 26.32 pence per kWh, for 1 October to 31 December 2026, is about 6 pence at 30 W and about 13 pence at 60 W. The Princess is the 60 W listing. Take a 240 V tower for a room, and a desk fan only for a desk.

Common questions

Does a bladeless fan cool the room or only you?
It cools you, not the room. Moving air helps sweat evaporate, which is why a fan can feel useful below 35°C. It does not refrigerate the air the way an air conditioner does. NHS and GOV.UK heat advice still tell you not to aim the airflow straight at your body, because that can dry you out. A closed housing does not change that.
What voltage and plug should a mains model show for a UK socket?
Look for about 220–240 V and 50 Hz on the rating plate, and a BS 1363 three-pin plug with a BS 1362 fuse. Regulation 35 of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 is the plug duty for domestic equipment aimed at that socket. The Princess listing states 230 V, and the DR-HTF017 states 240 V. A 5 V USB fan is outside that mains case.
Why do some amazon.co.uk rows say 120 V or 24 V?
The attribute table and the rest of the listing are sometimes copied from another market. B0BT7LPSBY says 120.0. B09M8L7C57 says 120.0 in the attribute and 220–240 V in the components line. B0BYZT7W9L says 24.0 on a corded tower. Those cells are left as listed. The plate and the plug on the unit you receive outrank them.
How tall a tower do you need, and when is a desk fan enough?
A floor tower in this set is about 92–106 cm, which is the size for a bedroom or a living room. A 58–60 cm column covers a smaller footprint. A 30–33.5 cm desk fan is enough when you are the only person who needs the breeze, at a table or on a bedside cabinet. It is not enough when you wanted the far side of the room to feel the air.
Is a 20 dB claim the noise you will hear on a high speed?
No. Treat 20 dB as the low-speed claim the seller printed. DREO reviewers in these files say speeds 1 and 2 are the sleepable ones, and from about speed 5 the black DR-HTF007 is described as loud. The Princess lists 52.6 dB. None of these figures was measured for this guide.
