Work light vs picture spotlight: flood or small head

Updated: October 2026

You are about to buy a plant head for the garage, or a flood for the painting. A work light vs picture spotlight choice is the beam and the lumen line, not the star rating. If you need to see a task, you want the flood class. If you need to lift a print, a shelf, or a plant out of a dark corner, you want a small aimed head. Prices and the six rows are on the [LED battery spotlight comparison](/hub/workshop/led-battery-spotlight). The Products Compared editorial team took these figures from the amazon.co.uk listings dated 15 October 2026. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

What each beam is for

A picture spotlight is a small head aimed at one object. The Online Lighting Store describes a shaped beam, and warns that glare on glass hides the art. Their rule of thumb is about 200 to 500 lumens. That is other fittings, not a test of these ASINs, and it still marks a frame rather than a bench. A work light is a wide pool on the floor, the vice, or the boot. Allbatteries.co.uk’s range, other products, runs from a few hundred lumens into the thousands. A 100-lumen accent and a 2,000-lumen flood can both be LED and still be different tools. About £14 here buys an accent. It does not buy a garage. Criteria before a model name are on the battery spotlight buying guide.

The figures in this set

EZVALO states 100 lumens, Bonsery 240, and Beizkna 2,000 lumens at 30 W. K&F Concept states 4,000 lux at 0.5 m, which is not lumens. GOODEA states none. Helcona has no single lumen number. One hundred lumens will not light a bench. A Bonsery review calls 240 lumens a mood light, not a work light. Beizkna's 2,000-lumen claim is the only work-scale figure here. Lux at half a metre is not a translation of 2,000 lumens. About £14 stays in the accent band. None of those heads is the flood.

When you want the flood, and when you want the accent

Use the flood when you must see a task: a bench, a boot, or a path. In this set that is the Beizkna, with the clashes attached. Bullets say 3000 mAh. Attributes and reviews also say AA or 18650. IP65 is claimed, and one review says the cover is not a seal. Check the cell, and do not immerse it. Use an accent for a print, a plant, a shelf, or a rented corner. EZVALO's 100 lumens may only suit a small object against the 200 to 500 lumen rule of thumb. Bonsery's 240 sits in that band, with 11 reviews and one charge failure. GOODEA has the review volume and no lumen figure. Helcona is RGB and AAA cells. Skip the Beizkna over a painting. If you have £14 and a garage, save for the flood. Colour, once you have chosen the accent, is the battery picture spotlight page.

The photo torch is neither

The K&F Concept SP25C at £62.99 is a third job: 25 W, 20 gobos, a fan, about 70 minutes at full power, and a 1/4-inch thread. It replaces neither the flood nor a quiet picture head, and at 1.01 kg it is a tripod tool. Do not treat 4,000 lux at 0.5 m as if it were 2,000 lumens. Use the flood class when you must see the task, and an accent head when you are lifting a corner.

Common questions

Will a picture spotlight light a garage?
No, not the heads in this set. EZVALO states 100 lumens. Bonsery states 240, and a review calls it a mood light rather than a work light. GOODEA does not state lumens and is sold as an indoor accent. A garage task here points at Beizkna’s claimed 2,000 lumens. A high star rating on a plant head does not add the missing output.
Will a work flood suit a painting?
The Beizkna flood is a poor match for a painting. It claims 2,000 lumens in a compact work body with a handle, which is a task beam rather than a shaped picture pool. You are likely to glare the glass and wash the wall. Use an accent in the 100 to 240 lumen listings, and set colour on the artwork page. Keep the flood for the bench.
Is 240 lumens a work light?
Not for a garage or a bench. On the Bonsery, 240 lumens at 3 W sits in the picture band retailers describe at about 200 to 500 lumens. A review on that listing says it is not enough to work by. It can lift a frame or a plant. It will not replace the 2,000-lumen flood when you need to see a task.
What if I only have £14?
You are choosing among the indoor heads: GOODEA at £10.98, EZVALO or Helcona at £12.99, Bonsery at £13.99. That budget does not reach the Beizkna at £24.98 or the photo torch at £62.99. Spend it on a corner, a plant, or a print. If the job is a garage, £14 does not buy the flood class here, and a 100-lumen head will not stand in.
Does IP65 matter indoors?
For a picture in a dry room, no. You do not need a jet rating over a sofa. IP65 matters if you take the flood outside or into a wet boot, and even then it means low-pressure jets, not immersion. Beizkna is the only IP65 claim here, and a review disputes the cell cover. Indoors, pick the beam first.
