Electric weed burner buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You are on a British patio with seedlings in the joints and a socket near the back door. You want a mains hot-air wand, and you need to know which amazon.co.uk lines are worth paying for. This electric weed burner buying guide uses the nine corded listings we compared on 16 October 2026. The printed watts, plug, cable and review sample do not match, and a higher shelf price here does not fill those blanks. The [electric weed burner comparison](/hub/weed-control/weed-burner-electric) holds the full table. A qualifying purchase through our links can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. We did not laboratory-test the wands.

What the listing must print

A stated 2000 W at 230 V is about 8.7 A and belongs on a fused BS 1363 plug. On Ofgem's Direct Debit average of 26.32 pence per kilowatt-hour for 1 October to 31 December 2026, that draw is about 53 pence an hour in England, Scotland and Wales. It does not apply in Northern Ireland, or where watts are not printed. Printed highs are 600°C or 650°C, with lows around 50°C to 80°C, and those figures are maker's claims. My Garden prints 2000 W, 80°C to 650°C, 1.8 m and a UK plug, at £28.34, with 3.7 from 103 reviews. Greenfields prints 50°C and 600°C at £22.99, with 4.1 from 162 reviews, and omits watts and cable. Marksmen at £24.60 puts 2000 W in the title only, with no degrees, cable or plug. Regulation 35 of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 requires a BS 1363 plug on domestic equipment sold with a lead. None of these nine print UKCA or CE. If watts and plug are both missing, the other bullets are not a reason to pay more.

Cable, reel and RCD

Where a length is printed, it is 1.8 m or 2 m. That will not cross a long drive. My Garden states 1.8 m. Thrink, Taylor & Brown and the Greenfields 2000 W row each state 2 m and a UK plug. The Greenfields 600°C wand prints no length, and reviewers say an extension is required. Taylor & Brown reviewers call a printed 2 m lead very short. Electrical Safety First advises a 30 mA RCD, an outdoor lead and a fully unwound reel, because a coiled reel can overheat under a 2000 W load. Call an electrician if the socket or RCD is unknown. A plot far from a socket belongs on the electric weed burner versus gas page. Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service warned on 29 August 2025 that both electric and gas burners have started fires in dry weather. QYOEGSQ at £39.99 states the lead as both 2 m and 6 ft and omits the plug.

Nozzles, wheels and extra jobs

A narrow nozzle is what sits in a paving joint. A BBQ tip or an ice-melting claim should not decide the buy when watts or cable are blank. My Garden includes a weed nozzle, a BBQ nozzle and a folding wheel. The three model 31325 listings include a concentration nozzle, a BBQ nozzle and a guide wheel. A wheel only helps you track the joint. Marksmen states a concentration nozzle and a BBQ lighter, and no wheel. The red wand at £44.99 claims two unnamed nozzles and prints no cable. The five-nozzle model at £55.99 titles ice melting and prints no watts, cable or reviews. Beside My Garden's printed 2000 W lead, those extra jobs are not a tougher tool. QYOEGSQ says both flameless and flame and hot air, and both 1.2 kg and 2.2 lb. How long to hold the nozzle is on the how to use an electric weed burner page.

Reviews and shared model numbers

Greenfields at £22.99 has 4.1 from 162 reviews, and several of the first 50 UK reviews say the heat stopped after a few uses or about half an hour. My Garden has 3.7 from 103 reviews, with element failures too. Neither sample is a life test, and a higher price is not proof of a longer-lived element. Thrink is 5.0 from one review with no text, at £29.99. Taylor & Brown is 3.2 from 12 reviews, and some texts compare the heat to a hairdryer. The Greenfields 2000 W row repeats those 2000 W bullets and has no reviews. All three print model 31325, and two share a main image, so treat them as one family. That is not proof the boxes are identical. The dearer generics add no reviews. Buy on printed watts, plug, cable and the review sample.

Common questions

Does an electric weed burner have to say 2000 W?
A printed 2000 W at 230 V is about 8.7 A, and it is the only basis here for about 53 pence an hour on the Great Britain Direct Debit cap. Greenfields B092MP5KG4 has the largest review sample and does not print watts, so do not apply that figure to it. Marksmen prints 2000 W in the title only, with no degrees and no cable. If the specification is silent, ask the seller before you treat the title as the rating.
Is a UK plug printed, or only assumed?
Regulation 35 requires a BS 1363 plug on domestic equipment sold with a lead, which is not the same as a line on the page. My Garden and the three model 31325 listings print a UK plug. QYOEGSQ, Marksmen and the generics at £44.99 and £55.99 do not. None of the nine print UKCA or CE. If the page is silent, check with the seller before you pay.
How long is the cable on the models that state it?
Printed lengths here are 1.8 m on My Garden and 2 m on Thrink, Taylor & Brown and Greenfields B0H2S59VCQ. QYOEGSQ states both 2 m and 6 ft. Greenfields B092MP5KG4, Marksmen and both generics above £40 do not print a length. A lead of about two metres still needs an outdoor reel, fully unwound, on a 30 mA RCD, once the joint is more than a step from the socket. A coiled reel and a 2000 W load can overheat.
Why do three listings share model 31325?
Thrink B0H2S9ND1V, Taylor & Brown B0H1JLNXPM and Greenfields B0H2S59VCQ all print model 31325, with near-identical bullets for 2000 W, about 60°C and 650°C, a 2 m UK plug, two nozzles and a guide wheel, all at £29.99. A matching main image on two of them means you should not buy all three as three designs. The boxes are not proven identical. The samples differ: one blank five-star line, 12 reviews at 3.2, and no reviews.
Is a 5.0 from one review a reason to pay more?
No. Thrink's 5.0 is one review with no text. QYOEGSQ's 5.0 is one review at £39.99 beside contradictory flame and weight lines. Greenfields at £22.99 has 162 reviews at 4.1, and My Garden has 103 at 3.7, and both samples mention elements that failed. A perfect score with no comments does not outrank a shorter line that describes real use, and it is not a reason to pay £39.99 to £55.99 when cable or watts are missing.
What should you refuse to claim about pets, roots and weatherproofing?
Do not claim these wands kill the root in one pass. Heat damages top growth so the weed wilts over the following days, and established roots often return. Do not call them safe for pets or children, or weatherproof: no listing prints an IP rating. Electric does not remove the fire risk. A higher price here does not mean a longer-lived element, and the Draper 68696 manual is not a spec for these nine ASINs.
