Makita angle grinder buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

You have typed a Makita search and the amazon.co.uk results are not one product. Three of the eleven rows have brand Makita. The other eight name Makita 18 V packs and then sell a different brand. This Makita angle grinder buying guide is which check to make first, so a low price does not hide the wrong plug, the wrong mount, or a speed line you cannot use. The [Makita angle grinder comparison](/hub/tools/makita-angle-grinder) holds the eleven shelf prices. This page is the sequence, not a winner. Peter F. compared those listings on 22 October 2026. Start with the brand field

Read the brand field before you compare pounds. Makita is only the DGA454Z at about £179.06, the XAG25Z at about £124.27, and the 9557HNR/1 at about £89.49. Everything else is Synxiter, laloohome, Gautesy, Roadtime, Fledukten, or Heimerdinger, even when the title names a Makita battery. A teal shell is not a warranty. Makita UK’s consumer terms cover Makita products and exclude business use. They do not cover a Gautesy because the listing mentions BL1830. A body from £29.99 is not a cheaper Makita. The brand fork is genuine Makita or compatible.

Cord, pack, or someone else’s 21 V kit

This shelf has one corded tool, and it is not a household grinder. The 9557HNR/1 is 110 V with a yellow 3-pin plug at 11,000 rpm, and the box has no transformer. A 13 A socket will not take that plug. Screwfix treats 230 V as home and 110 V as site. The DGA454Z lists no battery. If you do not own LXT packs, about £179.06 is only the start. The Fledukten includes two 21 V packs that must not go on other brands. The plug question is 110 V or 18 V.

Disc class and the mount you can read

The DGA454Z and the 9557HNR/1 are 115 mm. Most other bodies, and the XAG25Z title, are 125 mm or 4½ inch / 5 inch. The Heimerdinger LB202 and the laloohome mini are about 76 mm, with a 10 mm arbor on the Heimerdinger. A 125 mm disc does not belong on that arbor. The 9557HNR/1 prints M14 x 2.0. The XAG25Z is X-LOCK only. The DGA454Z table leaves the spindle blank, and two UK reviews say M14 hole cutters do not fit. That is review text. If the mount is blank, measure before you buy discs.

What the printed price still leaves out

The DGA454Z at about £179.06 does not list a battery, charger, disc, guard, or side handle. Reviewers still mention a guard, so do not budget as if the table had named it. The XAG25Z at about £124.27 names wheels, both guards, and a side handle, and still excludes the battery. The 9557HNR/1 at about £89.49 names the grip, the wrench, the tool, and the guard, and no disc. The Synxiter at about £57.99 names a handle, a cover, and four discs, and no battery. The laloohome 125 mm at £29.99 lists the tool only.

When the speed line is not usable

Use a speed only when the page agrees with itself. The DGA454Z prints 8,500 rpm. The 9557HNR/1 prints 11,000 rpm. The Synxiter prints 8,000 rpm. The Heimerdinger prints 19,500 rpm in the bullets and 19,000 rpm on the technical line. Both Gautesy rows print 90,000 rpm on the technical line and a few thousand rpm in the bullets. Do not treat 90,000 rpm as the speed. The XAG25Z technical line prints voltage 120 and 454 g against an 18 V title. Leave both out. A failed check drops the row. The shortlist is still not a winner.

Common questions

Is a teal grinder in this search a Makita?
Only when the brand field says Makita. In this capture that is the DGA454Z, the XAG25Z, and the 9557HNR/1. A similar colour, or a title that says the tool takes a Makita 18 V pack, does not make the body a Makita. One laloohome review says the colour is close. Read the brand line twice.
Does the shelf price include a battery?
Usually no. The DGA454Z and the XAG25Z are bare. The exception is the Fledukten kit at £69.99, with two 21 V 4.0 Ah packs and a 21 V charger. Those packs are not Makita packs, and the bullets say they must not be used on other brands. A bare price is the body only.
Should I choose 115 mm or 125 mm from this set?
Choose the diameter you already buy discs for, then check that this row is that diameter. The DGA454Z and the 9557HNR/1 are 115 mm. The XAG25Z locks you to X-LOCK wheels. Most other bodies are 125 mm. The two minis are about 76 mm with a different arbor. This folder does not contain a 230 mm grinder.
What mount do I need: M14, X-LOCK, or unknown?
You need the mount the listing prints. M14 x 2.0 is on the 9557HNR/1, and M14 is on the Fledukten. X-LOCK only is on the XAG25Z. The DGA454Z table is blank, and two UK reviews dispute M14 hole cutters. If a row prints no thread, measure before you buy discs. Fitting the disc is covered in how to use a Makita angle grinder.
Why does one listing say 90,000 rpm?
Because the technical line and the bullets disagree. Both Gautesy rows print 90,000 rpm on the technical line and a few thousand rpm in the bullets. Those cannot both be the no-load speed you set a wheel against. Treat 90,000 rpm as a broken specification line, and use the bullet steps.
Can I plug the 9557HNR/1 into a 13 A socket?
No. The bullets describe a yellow 110 V 3-pin plug. That is a site plug, not a BS 1363 household plug, and the box has no transformer. Anti-restart and double insulation do not change the plug. If you only have 13 A sockets, this corded row is the wrong tool in the folder.
