Makita angle grinder 110V or 230V

Updated: October 2026

You have two Makita 125 mm grinders on this shelf, and they will not both run from the supply in front of you. The GA5034/1 is the 110 V tool. The GA5030RK is the 230 V listing. They share a disc size and a printed wattage, and they are not interchangeable. This page is the Makita angle grinder 110V or 230V choice between those two ASINs. The six cordless bodies are a different decision. The [Makita angle grinder 125 comparison](/hub/tools/makita-angle-grinder-125) shows the whole set. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. We did not size a transformer and we did not test either tool.

Two listings, two supplies

The GA5034/1 at £97.53 is 110 V, 720 W, 11,000 rpm and 2.9 kg, and the included line is the grinder. The bullets name a paddle switch and a push-button spindle lock. A dust-collecting guard is not included. Three reviews average 3.9, and the only saved review does not describe a cut. Ten reviews of the GA5030RK average 4.6, with no UK review text in the file. The paddle switch does not make the supply 110 V. The six cordless bodies are outside this choice. Who should skip them is on the best Makita 125 mm angle grinder page.

What a 110 V tool needs

The GA5034/1 needs a 110 V supply. Tool Den says this tool needs a transformer and is not for a standard 240 V socket. The amazon description states a yellow 110 V three-pin plug. The transformer sits between the wall and the tool. The grinder's lead stays on the 110 V side. Do not adapt the yellow plug into a 13 A socket, and do not fit a household plug in its place. These listings do not print a kVA rating. If the site already has 110 V outlets from a centre-tapped transformer, use that supply and check the plate says 110 V. The saved file does not print a plug standard for the GA5030RK, so confirm the plug you unpack.

What changes on site

HSE construction guidance prefers cordless tools or a 110 V supply centre-tapped to earth, so voltage to earth does not exceed 55 V. That 55 V figure is not a second nameplate, and it is not permission to run the GA5034/1 from half a household socket. The tool is still a 110 V machine. Where 230 V portable tools are used on construction, HSE says you check for damage and use an RCD. HSG141 adds a daily RCD test. If you take the GA5030RK onto a site, those are the conditions around a 230 V tool. They are not a reason to rewire it, or to treat the GA5034/1 as the house grinder. Unplugging before you touch the wheel is the how to use a Makita 125 mm angle grinder page.

Figures that belong to a different code

Quote 2.9 kg for this amazon GA5034/1. ToolStore UK prints 1.9 kg net for the model family. Leave that figure on the dealer page. The GA5030RK in this file is 1.8 kg. Do not average the two into one body. LpA 85 dB(A) is on the GA5030RK bullets. A GA5030R/2 sheet at 88 dB(A) is a different code. Do not move 88 onto the RK, or 85 onto the GA5034/1. A 240 V GA5034 in the shops is not B008NF4X4I. A GA5021C is a higher-wattage tool. Leave its watts off these 720 W rows. For a normal UK socket, choose the GA5030RK and confirm 230 V on the plate. For a 110 V site, choose the GA5034/1 and use the supply that already provides 110 V.

Common questions

Will the GA5034/1 run from a kitchen socket?
No. B008NF4X4I is the 110 V listing at £97.53. Tool Den says this 110 V GA5034 needs a transformer and is not for a standard 240 V socket. The amazon description states a yellow 110 V plug. The kitchen socket is the setting for the GA5030RK, whose attribute row says 230 V, after you confirm the plate.
What does the transformer do?
It feeds a 110 V tool from a 230 V supply. The grinder's own lead stays at 110 V. You do not bridge the yellow plug into a 13 A socket with an adapter, and you do not fit a household plug in its place. This page does not state a kVA size, because these Makita listings do not print one.
Can I use the GA5030RK on a 110 V-only site?
No. The saved attribute row for B01EMQXPVS says 230 V. A 110 V site outlet, or the 110 V side of a transformer, is the supply for the GA5034/1. Do not adapt the RK plug to force it onto that lead. If the site allows 230 V tools, HSE expects an RCD and a check for damage, which is a site rule rather than a new plug.
Are the two tools the same apart from the plug?
They both print 720 W and 11,000 rpm at 125 mm, and the brand field on both is Makita. The voltage, the price, the weight, the switch and the box differ. The GA5034/1 is £97.53, 110 V, 2.9 kg, a paddle switch, and the grinder only. The GA5030RK is £81.89, 230 V, 1.8 kg, with a case, a wrench, a side handle and a steel disc in the included line.
Why do some shops show a 240 V GA5034?
Because Makita also sells a 240 V GA5034, and that listing is not ASIN B008NF4X4I. This amazon row says 110 V. Mixing the two codes is how a 110 V tool ends up beside a house socket. The GA5030R/2 sheet, which talks about 240 V, is a third code again. Keep each plate with its own page.
Which weight do I quote for the GA5034/1?
Quote 2.9 kg when you mean this amazon.co.uk item weight. A ToolStore UK page prints 1.9 kg net for the model family. Use that only when you are citing that dealer page. The GA5030RK in this file is 1.8 kg. The two item weights are not substitutes for each other.
