Best Bosch 230 mm angle grinder

Updated: 22 October 2026

You want one Bosch from the five amazon.co.uk listings, and a price sort or a star sort will hand you the wrong plug or the wrong switch. The best Bosch 230 mm angle grinder here is conditional: name the socket, and name whether the motor should start gently or stop when you let go. The [Bosch angle grinder 230 comparison](/hub/tools/bosch-angle-grinder-230) holds the full table. This page says who should buy which listing and who should leave it. Figures are from those listings on 19 October 2026 and from Bosch UK pages for the matching order numbers. Peter F. did not run a lab cut.

There is no lab winner in this set

There is no single winner, and there is no lab score behind the prices. The amazon.co.uk stars are listing aggregates, not a British panel. The GWS 22-230 J shows 4.8 from 183 ratings and the GWS 20-230 J shows 4.7 from 149, but long reviews on those files are largely written outside the UK. The GWS 20-230 P has 4.4 from eight ratings. Eight ratings do not prove the motor lasts. Price order is the wrong prize as well. The cheapest row is the GWS 22-230 J at £115.81. The dearest domestic row is the GWS 22-230 P at £156.07. Diameter, switch and the empty carton are on the buying guide.

For a 13 A socket and a large disc

A UK 13 A socket points at a 230 V J model if you want a gentle start. The English family manual gives J models starting-current limitation and restart protection. That is the conditional top pick when you want 2,200 W and a soft start, at £115.81 on ASIN B09Q386PS3. Reviewers describe stone, concrete and paving, and a start that does not trip a 16 A fuse. The spec table prints 120 V, and the sampled reviews do not confirm the plug, so read the plate. Skip it if the motor must die the moment you let go, or if your supply is 110 V. If you want 230 V already printed, take the GWS 20-230 J, ASIN B09Q38SBQN, at £145.00. It is 2,000 W, 6,500 rpm and 5.3 kg, with soft start and restart protection. Skip it if you need 2,200 W or a switch that stops as you release it.

When you want the tool to stop as you let go

The P switch turns off when you release it. It starts harder. On the GWS 22-230 P, ASIN B09RTDWBHJ, at £156.07, the UK review of 10 April 2023 says the tool cuts concrete easily, and that there is no soft start and it kicks on switch-on. The same review says it arrived as 230 V with a UK 3-pin plug, while the spec table still prints 120 V. Trust the plate. Skip it if a hard start is the complaint you already hate. The GWS 20-230 P, ASIN B09RTGV7WS, at £129.00, is the 2,000 W way to get that release-to-stop switch. Bosch UK sells order number 0 601 8C1 171 at the same £129 including VAT, at 230 V and 6,500 rpm. The amazon listing does not state voltage or rpm. Eight ratings are not evidence that this motor outlasts the J models.

Site supply, and what this set does not include

If your lead uses a yellow 110 V site connector, the only kept ASIN is the GWS 2200 P, B0BX469M7J, at £153.60. Bosch UK rates order number 0 601 8F4 160 for 102–117 V, at 2,200 W and 5.3 kg, with a PROtection switch. The amazon weight cell prints 1.62 kg, which conflicts with Bosch’s 5.3 kg. One review saying Good does not tell you how it lasts. Skip it for a house socket. An adapter is not a plan. The 110 V or 230 V page stays on that supply. None of the cartons includes a disc. If the plate and the supply disagree, stop and get the tool checked.

Common questions

Which of the five should I buy for a house drive?
For a 13 A socket, the conditional top pick is the GWS 22-230 J (B09Q386PS3) at £115.81 when you want 2,200 W and a soft start, provided you read the plate because the table prints 120 V. If the listing must already say 230 V, the GWS 20-230 J at £145.00 is that row, at 2,000 W. Neither carton includes a disc.
Is the cheapest listing a false economy?
The GWS 22-230 J is the lowest price here and it is the 2,200 W J model, so the low price is not a smaller disc. The false economy is ignoring the 120 V cell, or buying it when you wanted a P switch. You still add a blade. Against the GWS 22-230 P at £156.07 you give up release-to-stop.
Is the 5.0 score on the 110 V tool meaningful?
No. B0BX469M7J is 5.0 from one rating, and the only written text is Good. That is not a durability sample and not a reason to prefer it on a house socket. Buy it for a 110 V centre-tapped site supply. Bosch UK lists 5.3 kg, not the 1.62 kg on the amazon weight cell.
Who should skip the GWS 22-230 P?
Skip it if you already dislike a hard start. The UK review of 10 April 2023 says there is no soft start and the tool kicks, while also saying it cuts concrete easily and arrived with a UK 3-pin plug. Keep the P model when release-to-stop is the point. The GWS 22-230 J is the same 2,200 W class with soft start at £115.81.
Is the GWS 20-230 P enough if the switch must stop when I let go?
It is enough if 2,000 W will do the work and you accept a thin review file. It is £129.00, the figure Bosch UK prints for that order number, with a PROtection switch. The listing does not state voltage or rpm. Eight ratings cannot show brush life.
Which listing should a site worker open?
Open B0BX469M7J, the GWS 2200 P, when the supply is 110 V from a centre-tapped transformer. It is 2,200 W with a PROtection switch at £153.60, and it is the wrong tool for a 13 A socket. The other four are the domestic candidates. A brake is not in any of these five boxes.
