Above ground pool cover buying guide

Updated: 21 October 2026

You already know the foot size on the box, yet the sheet that arrives can be wrong for the rim you actually have. An 8 ft Intex Easy Set is not the same top edge as an 8 ft Bestway Steel Pro, and amazon.co.uk listings often print two or three centimetre lines on one page. This above ground pool cover buying guide walks through pool family, shape, fixing and holes before price. The full model table stays on [Pool cover](/hub/swimming-pools/pool-cover). Shelf prices come from the amazon.co.uk capture dated 19 October 2026.

Start with the pool, not the foot size

Before you filter by 8 ft or 10 ft, name the pool family. Easy Set pools use an inflatable top ring. Fast Set is a similar ring. Steel Pro and Pro Max use a metal rail. Swim Centre and larger Intex frames need a rectangle, often with a flap. Pool Warehouse UK warns that nominal sizes can sit above the waterline. If you are crossing brands for stock or price, read Intex or Bestway pool cover before you assume they interchange. A Swim Centre sheet will not dress a Steel Pro rail.

Three covers that are not the same purchase

A debris sheet, the type in this comparison, is tied over the pool to keep out leaves, insects and blown dirt. It is not a solar bubble cover that floats on the water. It is not a winter debris cover meant to stay through the closed season. Jackson’s Leisure sells winter sheets from about £39.95 and warns they can slide off an inflatable ring such as an Easy Set. That is a different risk from the £10–£25 summer sheets here. A PE drawstring is the wrong buy for a winter close-down. A bubble blanket is the wrong buy when you wanted the sheet cinched over the rim. Once you want a tied debris sheet, decide material, fastening, and whether the size lines agree.

Material, fixing and drain holes

Intex and Bestway branded sheets here are mostly PVC or vinyl from about 1.4 kg to 3.3 kg, with a rope in the hem or built-in ties. Lay the sheet, tighten the rope, and let rain leave through holes. Generic polyethylene drawstring covers at 270–630 g cost about £10. UK reviews on Cadoal and Ousinby say the drawstring will not cinch, so the fabric flaps into the water or lifts in a breeze. Drain holes stop a heavy puddle, which reviewers link to torn corners on frame rectangles. They also let fine debris through. One reviewer of the Intex 8 ft cover describes openings about the size of a ten-pence piece. Sarini’s rectangle uses bands that pass under the pool. Reviewers call that a two-person job on a full pool. If the fastening is unclear, pause.

Listings in this set that contradict themselves

Reject a page when the title, a bullet and the size field disagree. Intex 28020 prints 25 cm against a 244 cm title. Intex 28021 lists 1.1 g, which is not a usable mass. Intex 28039 prints 450 × 220 cm and 460 × 230 cm. Ousinby suggests 6 ft, 8 ft and 183 cm together. SHYSBV’s title says 221 × 150 cm and the size field says 260 × 170 cm. Reviewers call it a tarp. Bestway’s 10 ft and 3.66 m covers share one 4.1 from 20,207 opening. The 3 m × 2 m Intex is about £72.99, and UK specialists have listed that model near £20. A “3401 year” line, or “Insert: Lead” with no explanation, is not fit data. Rain sag is covered on how to fit a pool cover.

Common questions

Do I buy the cover that matches the feet on the box?
Only after the pool family matches. The same foot size can be an inflatable ring, a Fast Set, or a steel rail. An 8 ft sheet named for an Easy Set can fail on an 8 ft steel-pole pool even when the diameter sounds right. Start with brand and rim type, then feet or centimetres.
What is the difference between a debris sheet, a solar cover and a winter cover?
A debris sheet ties over the rim for leaves and dirt during use. A solar bubble cover floats on the water to retain heat and belongs in the solar category. A winter debris cover is heavier, often priced higher, and shop guidance warns it may slide off an inflatable ring. They are not interchangeable purchases.
Why does one Amazon listing show 6 ft, 8 ft and 183 cm?
Because the seller pasted conflicting lines. Ousinby is the clearest example in this set. Do not pick the figure you like. Skip the listing, or measure a sample if you already ordered. The best pool cover page names safer picks by pool family.
Are drain holes a fault?
On these branded sheets they are usually deliberate so rain does not weigh the vinyl down. They can let insects and fine muck through. That trade-off is normal for a summer debris sheet, not a manufacturing defect.
Should I pay £72.99 for the Intex 3 m × 2 m cover on this Amazon capture?
Compare other UK sellers first. The same model number appears far cheaper at specialist shops in our research file, while this capture shows about £72.99. Stars do not cancel a shelf-price outlier.
