3 m clamp awning buying guide

Updated: 22.10.2026

A 3 m clamp awning is easy to misread with a tape in your hand. The number in the title is the advertised width. The shade over a chair is the projection, 1.2 m or 1.5 m in this set, and the poles still have to meet a ceiling you are allowed to load. This 3 m clamp awning buying guide is the measuring page. The [3 m no-drill awning comparison](/hub/sun-shades/3m-no-drill-awning) holds the three rows. Listings were read on amazon.co.uk on 19 October 2026. What 3 m does and does not mean

Three metres is the width. The cloth comes out 1.2 m or 1.5 m, so a 1.2 m projection shades only the near edge of a table by the door. Write clear width, the distance to the chair, and the floor-to-ceiling height at both ends. One shared EVRE review says the cloth sat about 10 cm inside the frame. The VOUNOT title and table agree on 3 m by 1.2 m. The beige EVRE title says 1.2 m and the table lists 150 cm. The grey EVRE title says 1.5 m and the table lists 2.3 m wide. Prices that day were £66.99, £89.99, and £74.96. The pick is on the best 3 m no-drill awning page. A deep patio is the clamp awning versus a wall-mounted awning question.

The height the poles must reach

Pole range is not the 3 m width. VOUNOT lists 210–320 cm, minimum 210 cm. A 2.0 m soffit is too low. A 3.1 m soffit fits the VOUNOT and misses a pole that stops at 3.0 m. Measure both ends. EVRE's own beige 3 m x 1.2 m page says poles from 2 m to 3 m. Both amazon.co.uk tables list a minimum clearance of 300 cm, while the bullets say about 2–3 m. A 2.4 m gap is inside the bullet and outside the table. Order only when the stricter line still fits. Clamp to a soffit you may load. Glass, polycarbonate, plasterboard, and a neighbour's slab are bad bearings. If you rent, settle the no-drill balcony awning question first.

Cloth, rain, and the missing wind class

VOUNOT states 180 gsm polyester. The EVRE canopies give no grams per square metre, and none of the three states a wind class. Folding-arm classes in Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2019/1188 stop at class 2, at least 70 N/m². That row does not transfer to a clamp kit. VOUNOT's bullets say rain protection, and one UK review reports water coming through. The EVRE bullets say light rain, and the beige listing also says waterproof. The British Blind and Shutter Association, on wall-fixed arms, says about 14 degrees of pitch lets a shower run off, and a sensor is not a failsafe. These listings have a crank and no sensor. Wind the cloth in before you leave.

When to leave the category

About £59–£100 in October 2026 is shade you put away. Leave it for a deep cover, a cassette, or a named wind class. A Green Bay 4 x 3 m listing at £299.99 had to be fixed to a concrete wall. It is not a row here. With no ceiling the posts have nothing to bear on. The Planning Portal often treats a freestanding awning as an outbuilding, not in front of the house and not more than 2.5 m high. An awning fixed to the house is an alteration. Many poles are sold to about 3 m. England uses the Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) (England) Order 2015. Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland have their own orders. A lawful development certificate does not replace the lease.

Common questions

Is 3 m the width or the depth?
On these listings, 3 m is the advertised width. Projection is 1.2 m on the VOUNOT and the beige EVRE title, and 1.5 m on the grey EVRE title. Keep the opening and the distance to the chairs apart.
Will poles that stop at 3.0 m fit a 3.1 m soffit?
They will not. The post has to reach the ceiling and still tighten. VOUNOT lists 210–320 cm, so 3.1 m is inside that range. A listing that stops at 300 cm leaves a 310 cm gap short. Measure both ends.
Is 1.2 m of projection enough for a table?
It shades the near edge of a table against the door. People on the far side stay in the sun. The grey EVRE is the only 1.5 m title here, and its table lists the width as 2.3 m.
Why does one EVRE table say 2.3 m wide?
The grey EVRE title says 3 x 1.5 m. The specification table says 1.5 m deep, 2.3 m wide, and 3.5 m high. Both were on the listing on 19 October 2026. There is no hidden width to guess.
Does waterproof mean I can leave it out?
No. Rain wording sits next to reviews that say retract in wind and heavy rain. One VOUNOT review reports water coming through. None of the three states a wind class.
What if I have no ceiling to clamp to?
The posts need a floor and a solid overhead surface. Without that, a no-drill awning has nothing to bear on. A wall-mounted awning is a different fixing.
