Wall mounted extension lead for a garage

Updated: October 2026

You have one socket on the garage wall and a bench of chargers, and you want the leads off the floor. A wall mounted extension lead for a garage is still one 13 A indoor strip. A pegboard screw or a metal body does not make it a distribution board, and it does not give the room an outdoor rating. This page is that load limit for the nine listings in the [wall mounted extension lead comparison](/hub/sockets-and-extension-leads/wall-mounted-extension-lead). Prices are amazon.co.uk shelf figures in GBP, checked on 16 October 2026. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

A garage strip is still one 13 A socket

The strip shares the wall socket you plug it into. Electrical Safety First treats a typical lead as a 13 A device and tells you to use one lead per socket, not a daisy-chain. On these listings, 3,250 W is 13 A times 250 V. At a nominal 230 V that is about 2,990 W. A kettle and a fan heater together are the overload those pages warn about. Seven sockets on the Alpheus do not mean seven circuits. The listing still says 13 A.

Metal rack strip versus plastic bars

The metal one is the Alpheus, B0GTPY8GLM, at £28.99, with 4.5 from 16 ratings and 180° brackets. The cable length is not stated. Surge is claimed with no joules. It is not an unlimited workshop board. The clearer reach is a stated 3 m cable. The DEWENWILS is £16.99, with a 270 J bullet that clashes with an attribute reading 13 Amps. The toomke is £17.84, states 3 m, and has no star summary. The PIBEEX states 3 m and only has two sockets. Who should skip each one is on the best wall mounted extension lead page. The TOPREK bars are wood-effect plastic on a 2 m cable, and chunky plugs block the neighbour on the 6-way.

Pegboard, cable reach, and damp

A pegboard mount works only if the strip has slots or brackets, and if the flex reaches without a second lead. How you mark the holes is on the how to fit page. Leave the ROOTOMA (1.5 m) and the BOCHLION off a long-reach list. The BOCHLION title says 3 m, a bullet says 2 m, and reviews measure about 1.7 m. The Alpheus states no length. None of these nine states an IP rating. Do not put them outside or on a wet floor. Metal does not seal the sockets.

When the tool needs a proper socket

The tool needs a proper socket when it wants more than a 13 A plug, or when a heater and a kettle must run together. A drill charger and a radio can share a bar. Unplug the strip if it is warm, buzzing, or smelling of hot plastic. Do not open the housing. For a dry bench and light loads, a stated 3 m bar or the Alpheus brackets can hold leads off the floor.

Common questions

Can a wall mounted extension lead run a garage, or only a bench?
It can tidy a bench that stays inside one 13 A socket. It cannot run a garage like a consumer unit. Chargers and a small drill can share the bar if the total stays inside that plug. A heater and a kettle together are the overload case. Seven outlets do not multiply the fuse.
Does a metal body raise the 13 A limit?
No. The Alpheus is the only metal housing here, with wall or 19-inch rack brackets, and the listing still says 13 A. The metal is a firmer shell and a different mount. It does not add circuits, and it does not state an IP rating. A plastic 6-way on a stated 3 m cable has the same ceiling.
Which of these nine is the metal one, and what is missing?
The metal one is the Alpheus 7-way, B0GTPY8GLM, at £28.99, with 4.5 from 16 ratings. It states 13 A, a master switch, UKCA and CE, and 180° brackets. It does not state a cable length or a joule figure. A review that mentions 2 m is not a listing spec, so you cannot plan the pegboard on it.
Is a 3 m plastic bar enough to reach a pegboard?
Only if the socket is within that 3 m after a route that does not need a second lead. The DEWENWILS and the toomke state 3 m. The PIBEEX states 3 m and has one review at about 1.5 m. The ANVODE and the TOPREK bars state 2 m. Measure the lead before you drill.
Can you put a kettle or two tools on one strip?
A kettle around 3 kW, as a rule of thumb, can use the whole 13 A budget. A heater beside it is an overload. Two tools are fine only when both stay inside one 13 A plug together. If a tool is specified for a higher supply, it needs its own circuit.
Are any of these nine rated for a damp garage?
No. None of them states an IP rating. Do not use them outdoors, on a wet floor, or in rain through an open door. A lead sold elsewhere as indoor IP20 does not lend its rating to this set. Metal brackets do not seal the sockets.
When does the bench need a new socket instead of a longer lead?
When the tools need more than a 13 A plug, when two heavy loads must run together, or when you are already daisy-chaining to reach the bench. A warm socket is the same stop. A registered electrician is the route Electrical Safety First points to. A longer strip from this set does not add amps.
