Plug in corner socket or wired socket: one UK choice

Updated: 23 October 2026

One search phrase, corner socket, covers a fused trailing lead and a stainless face you wire into the kitchen. This plug in corner socket or wired socket page makes that single choice for UK renters and kitchen owners using the six amazon.co.uk listings in the [corner socket comparison](/hub/sockets-and-extension-leads/corner-socket). It does not re-rank USB watts, joules or night lights. Products Compared did not lab-test either type. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. How to place pads or when to stop before terminals sits on [how to fit a corner socket](/hub/sockets-and-extension-leads/corner-socket/sub/corner-socket-how-to-fit).

Five of these listings are leads

ANVODE, both ToneRiso colours, BEVA and the Brennenstuhl estilo are plug-in corner extension leads. They expect a BS 1363 wall socket you already have, a cable you can unplug, and one shared fuse. That is the renter path when you must not mark the furniture and you need to take the power with you. Electrical Safety First still applies: one lead per wall socket, a marked rating, and no daisy-chains. Where the Amazon file will not print a mains rating, open the corner socket buying guide before you treat the lead as a documented 13 A product. The estilo file prints Type G in one plug field and Type B in another. Inspect the plug on arrival. Type B is not a second UK pin layout.

The SKR008 has no plug

The Knightsbridge SKR008 is the wired option. The Amazon file lists no trailing cable. The bullets describe a 2-gang 13 A double-pole switched socket you wire in. Reviews say there is no back, so the rear needs a wall or an enclosure. There is no USB. Two outlets are still one 13 A fitting, not 26 A. Buy it when you own the kitchen, a competent person can isolate and earth a Class I housing, and you want a permanent corner rather than another trailing lead. Skip it when you are renting, when you cannot provide a flat rear plane, or when the job was only USB on a desk. Splash and kettle load sit on kitchen worktop corner socket.

The £27.99 does not include the person who fits it

In this capture the plug-in leads sit between about £18.99 and about £27.82. The SKR008 is about £27.99 on amazon.co.uk. That shelf price is the stainless socket, not the electrician's time, not a new circuit, and not making good after the cable entry. A lead's price is closer to what you pay to use it the same evening, if the wall socket is free and the mains rating is readable. If you already live on extension leads, Electrical Safety First's longer advice is more wall sockets from a registered electrician. Another triangle can be a short bridge. It is a weak permanent answer for a daily kettle. Insight Electrical's general point, that a permanent socket removes trailing-lead risk when the circuit tests sound, is not a rewire quote.

Not notifiable is not the same as do it yourself

Pop-up retailers often fold a wired worktop socket into a blanket Part P kitchen warning. Keep the first half: the SKR008 manual asks for a competent person, isolation and an earth. For England, Approved Document P (2013) does not put every addition on an existing kitchen circuit on the notifiable list. A new circuit and a bath or shower zone still are. Not notifiable does not mean connect it yourself tonight. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are not the English list. If you only wanted USB on a desk, the wired socket is the wrong buy. If you wanted a permanent 13 A face with no trailing flex, a five-outlet triangle is the wrong buy. Peter F., editor for DIY & tools, set this split from listings scored on 21 October 2026. There was no lab test.

Common questions

Which of the six products is the wired one?
Only the Knightsbridge SKR008. The other five are plug-in leads with a cable and a wall-plug path: ANVODE, both ToneRiso colours, BEVA and the Brennenstuhl estilo. The SKR008 Amazon file lists no trailing cable and no USB. You wire it in.
Can a renter use the SKR008?
Only if the tenancy and the building allow a fixed wiring change and a competent person does the work. Most renters who need a corner outlet want a lead they can unplug and take with them. The SKR008 also needs a flat rear plane, because reviews say there is no back.
Does a plug-in corner lead need an electrician?
Not for plugging into an existing BS 1363 socket. You still need a readable mains rating, one lead per wall socket, and no daisy-chain. Electrical Safety First also asks for a marked rating. Heat or damage means stop, not a DIY repair of the lead.
Why does the estilo file say Type G and Type B?
Those fields conflict on the Amazon file. Treat it as a listing flaw. Confirm the plug shape when the parcel arrives; do not invent a second UK standard from Type B. Type G is the UK pin layout you should see on a lead for a BS 1363 socket.
If I already rely on leads, is another lead the right fix?
As a temporary bridge, sometimes. As a permanent kitchen habit, Electrical Safety First points toward more wall sockets from a registered electrician. A triangular lead is a weak answer when the corner is used every day for a kettle or a toaster.
Does not notifiable mean I can wire the SKR008?
No. Notification and competence are different questions. In England, adding a socket on an existing kitchen circuit is not automatically notifiable. The manual still asks for a competent person, isolation and an earth. A new circuit and a bath or shower zone still are notifiable.
