Drill brush buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You already own a cordless drill, and amazon.co.uk is a row of 20-piece and 24-piece kits from about £5.99 to £18.99. This drill brush buying guide is the checklist before a brand: how many pieces are real brushes, how stiff the nylon is, whether the shank is a 1/4 inch hex, and whether a short rod is only extra reach. The [drill brush attachment sets](/hub/screws-and-accessories/drill-brush) comparison ranks the twelve listings we kept. Peter F., DIY & tools editor, sorted those extracts on 16 October 2026. This is not a laboratory test. A qualifying purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What the piece count is hiding

A headline piece count is objects in the bag, and on several listings most of them are pads, sponges, or wool. The QTACIE 20-piece at about £11.99 adds nine 4 inch pads, two sponges, a 6 inch rod, and a Velcro connector to the brushes. Rivlox at about £12.66 claims 24 pieces, with 11 brushes inside that total. ELOSIS at about £12.98 cannot agree whether you get five brushes or six. The best drill brush attachment page names the two picks, and who should skip each. The cheaper QTACIE four-piece and five-piece both show 4.5 from 952, matching the 20-piece extract. Treat that star line as evidence for the 20-piece only.

Shank and stiffness

Where these listings print a shank, it is usually a 1/4 inch hex, 6.35 mm, the size most UK cordless drills take for driver bits. It is not a promise for every machine. A loose chuck can let the hex slip. M&A Quality at about £18.99, the dearest set here, does not print 1/4 inch. Playcrate’s specification says hard nylon. Aongray’s four-pack says medium, while a UK review calls the bristles very stiff and fit for alloy wheels. ELOSIS says medium, and UK reviews often call the bristles soft. A colour code is one retailer’s key, not a British Standard. For a plastic shower, start softer and test a patch. The how to use a drill brush page is the low-gear method after the kit arrives.

Extender, impact driver, and the drill you own

A rod of 6 inches or 15 cm reaches the back of a bath or a wheel arch. It is not a floor pole. Lytool and Rivlox print 15 cm. ERTYUI and the QTACIE 20-piece print 6 inches. Playcrate does not print an extender length. A weekly shower wall is where a second tool starts to make sense. The drill brush versus spin scrubber page is that decision. A bullet that says the set fits an impact driver is a shank claim. A UK review of the Playcrate set says an impact driver will break the brushes. None of the twelve boxes includes a drill, and none prints an IP rating. Marco Paul says to keep the drill body dry.

A five-point check before you order

A fail on the first three is a reason to pick another row. 1. Count brushes separately from pads, sponges, wool, and the rod, and ignore a star line copied from a sibling ASIN. 2. Confirm a 1/4 inch hex, and skip a listing that will not name the shank when it is the dearest in the set. 3. Softer nylon for plastic and gloss, harder nylon for cement grout and decking, and always a hidden patch first. 4. Treat a 6 inch or 15 cm rod as reach, not as a pole that keeps you upright. 5. Leave the impact driver in the drawer, keep the drill body dry, and wear eye protection, because these heads throw detergent. About £5.99 to £8.89 is the entry band, about £11.99 to £13.29 the middle, and M&A Quality is about £18.99.

Common questions

Does a 1/4 inch hex fit every UK cordless drill?
A 1/4 inch hex is 6.35 mm, and it is the shank most of these listings print when they print a size at all. It matches the driver bits used in ordinary UK cordless chucks. It does not cover every machine. A loose chuck or a specialist collet can let the flats slip. Seat the hex fully and tug the head before you add water.
What does a 20-piece or 24-piece kit actually contain?
In this set, those numbers are the whole bag. The QTACIE 20-piece bullet adds nine pads, two sponges, a 6 inch rod, and a Velcro connector to the brushes. Rivlox’s 24-piece claim includes a line of 11 brushes, plus pads, wool, and a 15 cm rod. Count the spinning heads on arrival, because a title and an included-components line can disagree, as they do on ELOSIS.
Soft, medium, or hard for a plastic shower, tile, and a patio?
For a plastic shower, start with the softer nylon and test a patch. A UK review of the Aongray four-pack called those bristles very stiff and kept them for alloys. Cement tile and a dirty patio are where a harder head, such as Playcrate’s hard nylon, has a job. Hard nylon can still haze a glaze if you press. A shop colour key is not a standard on these twelve listings.
Is a 6 inch or 15 cm rod enough?
It is enough to move your hand back from a bath, a sink, or a wheel. ERTYUI and the QTACIE 20-piece state 6 inches. Lytool and Rivlox state 15 cm. It is not a floor pole. If the work is a whole floor or a weekly wet shower, that length is the limit of a drill brush in this comparison.
Why do two cheap QTACIE listings share one star line?
The four-piece and the five-piece extracts show 4.5 from 952, and the review names match the 20-piece file. That block includes an extender complaint, and those two bullets do not list an extender. The 20-piece can keep the star line. The smaller ASINs cannot borrow it as their own evidence.
