Polyester vs vinylester resin anchor for your base

Updated: 22 October 2026

You are choosing between a polyester hybrid and a vinyl ester because both names appear on chemical-anchor listings, and one of them sounds stronger. The useful difference is the base the maker’s assessment names. Polyester hybrid in this set is tied to masonry and non-cracked concrete. Vinyl ester, on fischer’s own UK page for FIS VL, is the chemistry tied to cracked concrete as well as masonry. Prices and the full grid stay on the [chemical anchor comparison](/hub/screws-and-accessories/chemical-anchor). Peter F. used fischer’s UK product pages, a trade report, and the amazon.co.uk cards. Neither resin was tested. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Polyester hybrid in this set

fischer’s UK page for FIS P Plus describes a polyester hybrid for masonry and non-cracked concrete. The Tubo 290 listing, at £11.28 with 4.4 stars from 312 ratings, is that product name here, with one MR mixer stated. The 380 ml FIS P Plus at £13.29 is the same hybrid name in a coaxial cartridge that reviewers say needs a specialist gun. A sound, uncracked base is the job that wording covers. A drawing that says cracked concrete is outside it. Rawlplug R-KEM-II-300 is styrene-free on the title and the datasheet, at £12.10 with 4.5 stars from 134 ratings, for crack-free concrete and a standard silicone gun. Styrene-free is an odour claim. It does not move the resin into a cracked-concrete assessment. Bond It, at £13.19, names solid and hollow bases and does not state cracked concrete. Metalmate’s 410 ml title is styrene-free polyester, with five ratings and no ETA number in the capture. ETA-11/0419, cited with FIS P Plus, records no seismic performance and no fire-load performance assessed.

Vinyl ester when the base may be cracked

fischer’s UK page for the FIS VL family describes a vinyl ester hybrid for cracked concrete and masonry. Article 539461 states a service temperature of −40 °C to +120 °C. Those sentences belong to the article fischer publishes. They are why a specifier asks for vinyl ester when the base may be cracked. In non-cracked concrete, a polyester hybrid that names that base can be the stated system, often at a lower shelf price here. The amazon.co.uk card at £20.49 uses a FIS VL 300 T title and names cracked concrete, masonry, and a standard silicone gun. There is no Customer Reviews line. The brand field is sarcia.eu and the model is 540983. That is not the same evidence as article 539461. RM II 12, part 539798, at £12.62, is ten capsules for cracked concrete, not a FIS VL cartridge, and the rods are not included.

Epoxy is not in this set

Epoxy is the third chemistry UK resin guides usually list beside polyester and vinyl ester. None of the seven listings is an epoxy cartridge. If a specification says epoxy, neither FIS P Plus nor the vinyl ester title satisfies it. You are outside this comparison. Mixing the names because all three are resin is how a non-cracked polyester ends up in a job written for something else.

Damp holes and the Balcombe limit

The Construction Index contrasts older polyester limits in damp conditions with claims for FIS P Plus outdoors and in water-filled holes, and it describes FIS V Plus as the wider vinyl ester. That is a trade-article claim, not an ETA annex, and it was not retested here. Do not read it as polyester being suitable in any damp wall. The RAIB report on Balcombe describes a polyester connection that failed in damp tunnel brick. That limits casual polyester in wet masonry. It is not a test of FIS P Plus. Shelf prices run from £11.28 for the Tubo 290 to £20.49 for the vinyl ester title. Hollow brick still needs a sleeve, on chemical anchor hollow brick. When the job is safety-critical, BS 8539 is the code of practice for selecting and installing the anchor.

Common questions

When does the maker say vinyl ester?
fischer’s UK FIS VL page says vinyl ester hybrid for cracked concrete and masonry, with the 300 T on a standard dispenser. Article 539461 is the page that also states −40 °C to +120 °C. Use that when the base may be cracked or the specification names that article. The amazon title at £20.49 is not, by itself, that page. Confirm model 540983 and the brand field before you treat the parcel as 539461.
Is epoxy in this comparison set?
No. The listings compared are polyester cartridges, one vinyl ester title, and a capsule pack. Epoxy does not appear. A specification that says epoxy is not met by choosing the vinyl ester because it is the less familiar name, or the polyester because it has more reviews. You need the chemistry the specification names, from a product whose assessment you can read.
Does the £20.49 listing prove it is FIS VL 300 T article 539461?
It proves the title uses that name. The brand and manufacturer fields say sarcia.eu, the model is 540983, and there is no review line in the capture. fischer’s article 539461 is a different source, the manufacturer page. Until the cartridge and that page agree, keep them separate. A standard-gun claim on the amazon bullets is a shopping detail. It is not an article-number check.
Can polyester be used in the wet because a trade article says so?
Only if the assessment for the resin you are holding says so. The Construction Index reports claims for FIS P Plus in outdoor and water-filled holes, set against older polyester limits in the damp. That report is not the ETA annex. ETA-11/0419, as cited for FIS P Plus, is not a damp-wall certificate you can extend to every polyester in the set. The Balcombe RAIB account is a warning about polyester failing in damp tunnel brick, not a pass or a fail for FIS P Plus.
Is a capsule the same choice as a vinyl ester cartridge?
No. RM II 12 is ten capsules, part 539798, listed for cracked concrete, without rods. Maker literature may place the capsule in a vinyl ester family. The amazon listing does not sell you a FIS VL cartridge and a mixer. Installation is different, including the listing’s line about processing without cleaning the hole. Compare capsules with cartridges only on the base they claim, then install them by their own method.
