Chemical anchor buying guide for the wall you have

Updated: 22 October 2026

You have a pier, a concrete lintel, or a run of perforated brick, and the amazon.co.uk results are a row of tubes that all call themselves a chemical anchor. This chemical anchor buying guide keeps one order: the wall, then the chemistry, then the gun, then what is actually in the box. Price and stars come after that. The seven listings, captured between £11.28 and £20.49, stay on the [chemical anchor comparison](/hub/screws-and-accessories/chemical-anchor). Peter F. used those listings and the UK manufacturer pages in the sources. There is no pull-out test. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Start with the wall

The wall decides the system before any cartridge looks like a bargain. Solid brick and crack-free concrete are the bases the polyester listings describe. fischer’s UK page for FIS P Plus places that polyester hybrid in masonry and non-cracked concrete. The Rawlplug R-KEM II datasheet is a styrene-free polyester for concrete, with ETA-21/0243 and UKTA-22/6131. A drawing that says cracked concrete is a different wording. Perforated brick is a third case. Resin runs into the voids unless a sleeve holds it around the rod. None of these seven ASINs is a sleeve. If the brick rings hollow, use the chemical anchor hollow brick page before you buy a tube on its own. A bullet that says ETA approved is not the annex.

Match the cartridge to the gun

A 300 ml tube is the format makers describe for a standard dispenser. Rawlplug’s R-KEM-II-300, at £12.10, says it can be used with standard manual and silicone dispensers. The amazon.co.uk card at £11.28 is the Tubo 290 size line, model 567059: one cartridge and one MR mixer. A gun is not in that included line. Match the unpacked cartridge to the dispenser named for that format. The 380 ml FIS P Plus, at £13.29, is the listing reviewers say will not move in a normal sealant gun. They describe a coaxial cartridge and a specialist gun with a ring-shaped drive. Bond It Anchor Bond, at £13.19, says no special gun is required, then prints 300 ml, 310.01 ml, model BDAB380 and part BDAB310. Read the millilitres on the tube.

Read the box, not only the title

The Rawlplug title, ASIN B00LYEAGBY, reads like a fixing kit with threaded rods and two nozzles. UK reviews say the parcel was resin only, and that nozzles were missing or cracked. Buy the studs and a spare mixer as separate lines. Bond It reviews report a missing nozzle. The only UK review captured for Metalmate says the application straw was not in the parcel. Drill nothing until a mixer is on the bench. fischer RM II 12, part 539798, at £12.62, is ten resin capsules. The listing says fixings in cracked concrete and fast processing without drill-hole cleaning. Rods are not included. It is not a cartridge for a silicone gun.

Styrene-free is a listing claim

Rawlplug’s title and the R-KEM II datasheet say styrene-free, and the bullets describe interior use on odour. Metalmate’s title also says styrene-free. Bond It and the FIS P Plus cards in this capture do not. If smell in a lived-in room is why you are filtering, stay with a listing that prints the words, and still ventilate. Styrene-free does not mean the resin is assessed for cracked concrete. Rawlplug’s datasheet prints ETA-21/0243 and UKTA-22/6131. Metalmate says ETA approval and prints no ETA number in the capture. The number, and the annex that names the base, are what a specifier checks. The word approved on a bullet does not replace them.

Leave safety-critical jobs specified

BS 8539 is the British Standard code of practice for selecting and installing post-installed anchors in concrete and masonry. A handrail, a structural connection, or a wall you cannot identify is that kind of job. A competent person specifies the anchor. Prices in this capture run from the FIS P Plus Tubo 290 at £11.28 to the vinyl ester title at £20.49. Do not treat that card as fischer article 539461. The brand field says sarcia.eu and the model is 540983. The chemistry split is on polyester vs vinylester resin anchor.

Common questions

What should I decide before price?
Name the wall, then the chemistry that assessment covers, then the gun you already own, then the mixer and the rods. A lower price on the wrong format costs more once you buy a second gun. In this set the cheapest card is the FIS P Plus Tubo 290 at £11.28, and it still does not include a dispenser. The Rawlplug at £12.10 states a standard silicone gun and styrene-free resin.
Will a 380 ml cartridge fit my silicone gun?
The FIS P Plus 380 C at £13.29 is the one reviewers say will not. They describe a coaxial body that needs a specialist gun with a ring-shaped drive. A 300 ml listing that says standard dispenser, such as the Rawlplug R-KEM-II-300, is the shape to open if a bathroom sealant gun is what you have. Bond It’s no-special-gun line sits next to conflicting volume codes, so read the tube itself.
Are the threaded rods in the Rawlplug box?
The title on B00LYEAGBY says a fixing kit with threaded rods. UK reviews say the parcel was resin, and that nozzles were missing or cracked. Treat the card as a 300 ml cartridge until you have opened it. Order the studs to the diameter and length the assessment asks for. The other cartridges in this set do not list rods either. The RM II pack lists ten capsules and no rods.
Does ETA approved on a bullet replace the annex?
No. The annex names substrates, diameters, and conditions. A bullet can say ETA and still omit the number. Metalmate’s listing does that. Rawlplug’s datasheet prints ETA-21/0243 and UKTA-22/6131, and you still read the scope. FIS P Plus has its own ETA on the manufacturer literature. That ETA is not a licence to use the resin in a base the annex excludes.
When do I stop and use BS 8539 properly?
When the fixing is safety-critical or already specified. BS 8539 is the code of practice for selecting and installing post-installed anchors in concrete and masonry. A towel rail in sound brick is not that document. A handrail, a structural bracket, or an unidentified wall is. The product is then chosen against the assessment by someone competent to do it.
