Furniture levelling feet: match the M6, M8 or M10 hole

Updated: 22 October 2026

The table rocks, the speaker walks, or the stool clicks every time you sit. Furniture levelling feet fix that only when the thread matches the hole already in the leg. M6, M8 and M10 are not interchangeable, and the load lines on these amazon.co.uk packs are missing or too vague to quote. Measure the existing thread, pick the foot that states that thread, and treat every load figure that is absent or unclear as unknown. The five-card comparison, including the timber screws you do not want for a leg, is the [adjusting screws comparison](/hub/screws-and-accessories/adjusting-screws). Peter F., DIY & tools editor, used these three listings and a UK supplier’s measuring guide, not a load test. A qualifying amazon.co.uk purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Measure the hole before the title

A levelling foot screws into the leg. Vital Parts’ UK guide tells you to measure thread diameter, thread length and base diameter before you buy. In this set the stated threads are M6, M8 and M10. How the two product types differ is in the adjusting screws buying guide. TIANLIN, at £6.99, states M6 x 16 mm and a 32 mm pad. The listing line is 4.4 from 287, and some reviews describe M8 studs. Uni-Fine, at £7.99, states M8. JJQHYC, at £9.99, states M10 x 50 mm.

Flat pad or a foot that tilts

If the leg is square and the floor is flat, a fixed pad is enough. TIANLIN’s rubber pad is the soft option in this set. JJQHYC’s bullets name a nylon base on galvanised metal, with no tilt stated. Uni-Fine is the only card that states a tilt, a maximum of 15 degrees, with a spherical head and 360 degree rotation. Open it for an uneven floor once the hole is M8. The listing line is 4.9 from 21, and the stored file has no UK-marked review. A larger base spreads load. That is not a published capacity.

Floors, load and what the box does not say

TIANLIN states a rubber pad, the gentler option on a finished wood floor if the thread is M6. Uni-Fine’s bullets say stainless steel and polyamide with nickel plate, and the material field says carbon steel and nylon. No load is stated for TIANLIN or JJQHYC. Uni-Fine states 450 kg and does not say whether that is one foot or the set of four. There is no test report in the stored file. A light speaker, a stool or a small table is the sort of job these packs are sold for. BS EN 14592 does not apply to a chair leg. Which pack to open once you know the thread is on best adjusting screws.

Fitting without guessing the instructions

TIANLIN’s listing contains two methods. One bullet says screw the M6 thread into the leg and add a nut if needed. Another says drill a 5/16 inch hole and fit a T-nut. If the leg already has an M6 insert, screw in and stop when the pad bears evenly. 5/16 inch is close to 8 mm, an odd match for a stated M6 stud. JJQHYC’s unit-count field says 1 while the title says four. Count the feet before you drill. Wind each foot a similar amount, then correct the rock with small turns. If the job is a ceiling, the sequence is in how to level timber battens.

Common questions

How do I know if I need M6, M8 or M10?
Measure the stud or the insert, not the star rating. A known screw of that size, or a thread gauge, is enough. In this set TIANLIN states M6, Uni-Fine states M8 and JJQHYC states M10. They will not cross-thread cleanly into the wrong hole. On the TIANLIN ASIN, some reviews describe M8, so measure the parcel as well as the leg.
Which of the three tilts?
Only Uni-Fine states a tilt, a maximum of 15 degrees, with a swivel base. TIANLIN and JJQHYC state a screw-in height change and do not state a tilt. Use the swivel when the floor is uneven and the hole is M8. A fixed pad is enough when the leg is plumb and you only need to stop a small rock.
Will the pad mark a wood floor?
A rubber pad is the gentler of the options stated here, and that is TIANLIN’s 32 mm pad, if the thread is M6. Nylon and hard plastic can leave a ring, particularly if you slide the furniture. Lift rather than drag. Uni-Fine’s material field and its bullets disagree, so do not assume a soft or a stainless face until you see the foot.
Is 450 kg per foot?
The Uni-Fine listing states 450 kg and does not say one foot or the set of four. There is no test report in the file. Do not divide it by four and call that a rating. TIANLIN and JJQHYC state no load at all. For a light piece that is acceptable uncertainty. For a heavy cabinet it is the reason to buy a different foot.
Are T-nuts in the box?
Not as a stated included part on these cards. TIANLIN mentions a T-nut in one assembly line and a plain screw-in in another. If your leg has no thread, you need an insert that matches the stud you received. The other two listings describe screw-in feet and do not say a T-nut is supplied.
Can I use these outdoors?
Outdoor use is unanswered on the TIANLIN and JJQHYC listings. Uni-Fine’s material lines conflict, so a stainless claim is not safe to repeat. A porch table in the wet is a different product question. Use these feet indoors unless the maker of the foot you hold has stated an exterior finish you can check.
Can I use them instead of a batten screw?
No. A foot levels a leg on a floor. A SPAX or fischer adjusting screw fixes a timber batten and sets a gap. The threads, the heads and the loads are different. If the ceiling is out of line, go to the batten how-to. If the chair rocks, stay on this page.
