Pole sander for walls

Updated: 21 October 2026

You are looking at a ceiling with ridges of filler and a landing wall you cannot reach without a ladder. A pole sander for walls puts a flat head up there while your feet stay on the floor. In our [hand sander comparison](/hub/sanders/hand-sander) only one of the eight amazon.co.uk listings is that shape: the AEVORA kit at £10.99 on 19 October 2026. Peter F. read that listing and its nine reviews alongside the blocks and mice. We did not sand a ceiling. A qualifying purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

When a pole beats a block

The Stanley STHT0-05927, 230 x 80 mm at £13.24, is excellent on skirting you can touch and a poor ceiling tool unless you want a ladder. A mouse is worse overhead: the KATSU is 1.09 kg and the DEKOPRO 1.61 kg, both corded. A pole moves the pad away from your hand. Homebuilding’s guide treats the pole as its own type. It fits jointing compound, filler ridges and light paint nibs on plaster or plasterboard, not heavy timber removal. The AEVORA title says 47 in, about 119 cm. With your arm, that can cover a typical 2.4 m UK ceiling if you stand close, and it is short for a full stairwell. Grit on a block you already own sits in how to use a hand sander.

Head angle, pressure and the sheet

The AEVORA title claims a 360° head. A head that swivels lets the pad lie on the ceiling while the pole stays at a comfortable angle. With any swivel head, too much pressure makes one edge dig a groove in the filler. Use the weight of the head. Sand along the joint, then across it lightly, and stop when the ridge is level. Five sandpapers are what the title includes, which is short if every sheet loads with wet filler. The included line only says pole sander, and the title also says universal fit. A sheet that does not cover the pad will scratch the plaster.

Dust, eyes and the mess under the head

This kit has no port, so dust falls from the head. HSE WD7 is written for powered sanders, and a manual pole is not that machine. The British Woodworking Federation’s APF 20 note is about wood dust. Plaster dust overhead is still a reason to wear a mask and glasses. Do not dry-sweep. Stop if the coating might be lead paint, or if the plaster is loose. If you are choosing a block or a mouse at arm’s length, use the buying guide.

The AEVORA kit, stated plainly

The AEVORA LH-50164 is £10.99 and 450 g, with a 47 in pole and five sandpapers in the title, plus a 360° claim. The star line is 2.8 from nine reviews. The review notes do not show strong UK praise, and the rank cell files it under disc sanders. The included line does not itemise the head or the sheet size. This is not the top pick, and it is not best value. Those labels belong to the Stanley block and the wolfcraft set at £7.05, and neither reaches a ceiling. Buy the AEVORA only as a trial on a patch you can see from the floor, after you check how the sheet attaches. If the head flexes, send it back. Prices and stars are from 19 October 2026.

Common questions

Is the AEVORA pole sander reliable?
The listing shows 2.8 from nine reviews, at £10.99, and the review notes do not show strong UK praise. The title offers a 47 in pole, five sheets and a 360° head. The included line only says pole sander, and the rank cell says disc sanders. It may be a cautious trial on a low wall. It is not a stairwell tool.
How long is the pole?
The title says 47 in, about 119 cm. Your arm adds reach, and a standard UK ceiling is often around 2.4 m, so a short pole can cover a normal room if you stand close. On that title figure alone it will not clear a full stairwell. The included line does not repeat the length, so confirm it on the live page.
Do I need a mask when sanding plaster overhead?
Yes. Dust falls from the head, and this kit has no extraction port. Wear a mask and eye protection, and vacuum rather than sweep. HSE WD7 is the powered-sander note. The British Woodworking Federation covers wood dust and manual sanding. Plaster dust overhead is still a reason to protect your lungs. Lead paint is a reason to stop.
Can I use a mouse sander on the ceiling?
A mouse is a palm tool. The lightest here, the BLACK+DECKER, is 980 g and corded. Holding it overhead is tiring, and the pad is too small for broad plaster. Use a pole for the ceiling and keep the mouse for skirting and furniture. A block is only a fallback where you can stand safely and the patch is small.
How many sheets come in the kit?
The title says five sandpapers. The included-components line does not list them separately, and it does not state the sheet size or whether they are clip or hook-and-loop. Five sheets clog quickly on fresh filler. Have spare paper that matches the head, and check the live photos so you buy the right system.
