The ProDec PHST is lighter, at 290 g and £10.76. A corded mouse is faster on a narrow moulding and louder in a small room. The KATSU at £16.99 is 130 W and 15,000 rpm, at 1.09 kg. The DEKOPRO at £21.99 is 180 W and 13,000 rpm, at 1.61 kg. The BLACK+DECKER BEW230BC-GB at £24.28 is 55 W and 11,000 rpm, at 980 g. UK notes on the KATSU mention vibration. On plain skirting, the block usually wins. On a moulded top, the mouse wins, because the block rocks. Many halls need both: Stanley on the flat, KATSU or BLACK+DECKER on the profile. Corners, profiles and which pad system

The pointed pad reaches a panel-door corner and the notch where a chair spindle meets the seat. Change the KATSU corner part unplugged. Large flats, and when both should stand down

A tabletop, a flush door or a run of floorboards is where either hand sander starts to lose. Leave bulk removal to a random orbital or a belt sander. If the job is a whole door face in bare oak, open the 150 mm orbital sander comparison and keep the hand tools for the edges. Stay manual when the room should stay quiet. Buy a corded mouse for moulding and corners. If you are removing finish from a large flat, buy neither as your only tool.

Dust applies to both, then the short decision

Dust does not care that a block has no motor. The British Woodworking Federation notes manual sanding among tasks where a respirator of at least APF 20, such as FFP3, may be required with other controls. HSE WD7 covers powered hand sanders: on-tool extraction where fitted, a Class M or H vacuum, and respiratory protection at APF 20 for typical woodworking. Do not dry-sweep. Common questions

Block or mouse for skirting boards?
Use a clip block on the flat face. The Stanley pad is 230 x 80 mm, and UK notes mention skirting. Use a mouse on the moulded edge and the internal corners, where the block tips. A 130 W KATSU is quicker on that bead and it vibrates. One mouse does not replace the block on a long plain run.
Can I sand a whole door with a mouse?
You can reach every part, and the flats will take too long. A 55 W to 180 W mouse dishes the timber if you pause. Sand the flat panels with a block or, if you are stripping finish, with a random orbital. Keep the mouse for the moulding.
Why do manual blocks show a voltage?
The ProDec spec table prints 220 volts on a tool whose bullets say hand-operated. The Stanley table prints compressed air and 28 volts on a clip block. Both are listing errors in this capture. The electric mice are the 55 W, 130 W and 180 W corded tools. Those are the ones that need a UK plug.
Hook-and-loop block or Stanley clip?
Stanley if you cut sheets to 230 x 80 mm and you want 2,480 reviews behind the clip. MOGRQAP if you have 6 inch hook-and-loop discs and can accept 27 reviews and no discs in the box. You cannot clip a disc into the Stanley, and a loose sheet will not grip the MOGRQAP.
Do I need a mask if I stay manual?
Yes for anything longer than a brief scuff, and especially on bare wood or filler. The British Woodworking Federation treats manual sanding as a dust task that can need APF 20 protection. The blocks here have no extraction. A dust box or the BLACK+DECKER adapter does not remove the mask.
