Best 230mm metal cutting disc for the cut you are making

Updated: 21 October 2026

Star ratings will not choose a best 230mm metal cutting disc from this set. Several Bosch rows sit on 4.6, while a thin review file can show 5.0. Split them by the job: one stiff steel disc, a thin pack you will finish, a stainless single, or a diamond wheel whose exclusions you accept. Skip any listing whose reviews or speed field describe a different disc. Prices are amazon.co.uk figures in GBP on 19 October 2026. A single 3 mm steel disc

For occasional mild steel, the best value pick is Bosch part 2 608 603 162, ASIN B00F11NZVE. It is one depressed-centre wheel, 230 x 3 x 22.23 mm, at £2.41, with 4.6 from 1,253 ratings. The title carries oSa. UK comments include a usable cut in heavier steel and very fast wear. Skip it for stainless. The listing says metal and steel, not inox. The flat-hub alternative is a different part, B00F11NQXQ, part 2 608 603 168, at £8.95. Pay the extra only if you want the flat hub.

A thin pack for repeated cuts

For a run of thin cuts in mild steel or stainless, Parweld B00P450OBQ is the pack that earns its place. Ten 230 x 1.9 mm discs are £12.96, about £1.30 each, with 4.5 from 196 ratings. The bullets say mild steel and stainless, 6,600 rpm, and EN 12413. A UK reviewer says they flex until they are up to speed and should not be forced. If you twist the grinder in the kerf, skip this pack. The bore is printed 22.2 mm, so check the flange. Merryland’s title undercuts that unit price only if the carton holds 25, and the items field says 1. HAUTMEC’s 5.0 rests on six ratings, and the listing names a die grinder. Thickness, if you are still unsure, is on thin or thick 230mm cutting discs.

A stainless single

The comparison’s top pick for one straight 1.9 mm disc marked for sheet, rebar, steel and stainless is B0B76SG14Q, part 2608619770, at £4.59, with 4.6 from 180 ratings. The capture has no speed or diameter clash. One UK buyer cut two scaffolding poles with one disc. A review also describes flex and a snap when the cut pinched. Skip it for heavy bar, where 3 mm steel is stiffer, and skip it if you will use up singles all morning. The depressed-centre inox alternative is B001TPISD6, part 2 608 600 711, also £4.59, with 4.7 from only 33 ratings. Bosch’s UK page calls this part iron free and claims up to 1.3 times the life of its own standard metal disc. That multiple is Bosch’s claim. Choose it for the part number, not for a large review file. Contamination is on the stainless page.

Skip these until the packet is checked

B001TPISF4 is £6.30 with 4.6 from 1,275 ratings, and the item type says 230 x 3 mm. The speed field says 8,500 rpm, which is the wrong band for this diameter, and one review says the page is a 115 mm disc unless you buy by part number. The listed weight, 99.8 g, is light next to the other Bosch 230 x 3 mm discs at 270 g. The review count does not repair that. B0H953W9ZY’s written reviews describe 115 mm discs and 13,300 rpm, not this 230 mm title. B088LLC2Q1, the Bosch EXPERT diamond wheel at £51.98, is part 2608900536. Bosch UK lists it as 230 mm, while the amazon diameter field says 180 mm. The bullets exclude aluminium, concrete and stone. Buy it only if the box is 230 mm and you accept those exclusions. A trade-counter price is a different channel from £51.98. WojBear, 5.0 from three ratings, does not rank on that sample.

Common questions

Which disc is the sensible single buy for mild steel?
Bosch B00F11NZVE, 230 x 3 mm at £2.41, with 4.6 from 1,253 ratings. It is the best value single here for steel, with the fast-wear comments that come with a cheap bonded disc. Skip it for stainless. The flat-hub alternative is B00F11NQXQ at £8.95, part 2 608 603 168, not a refill of the same wheel.
Which pack is better for a lot of thin cuts?
Parweld B00P450OBQ at £12.96, if you will use 1.9 mm discs and you will not force them when they flex at start-up. Merryland is cheaper per disc only if the carton really holds 25. HAUTMEC’s 5.0 rests on six ratings and costs £27.99. On the evidence in this set, neither replaces Parweld.
Is a 5.0 on six ratings a reason to prefer HAUTMEC?
No. That 5.0 is six amazon.co.uk ratings. Parweld’s 4.5 comes from 196 ratings at a lower pack price for the same kind of thin steel-and-stainless job. A perfect score on a handful of reviews is not a settled rank, and a 230 mm disc is not a die-grinder wheel.
When is the Bosch diamond wheel the pick?
Choose B088LLC2Q1 when you want diamond wheel part 2608900536 and you have checked that the box is the 230 mm wheel. Skip it for aluminium, concrete and stone, because the bullets say so. Skip it for one short mild-steel cut, where a bonded disc costing a few pounds is enough. The £51.98 amazon price is not the Bosch UK shop price.
Why are the two Bosch 230 x 3 mm discs not the same?
B00F11NZVE is part 2 608 603 162, a depressed centre at £2.41. B00F11NQXQ is part 2 608 603 168, a flat hub at £8.95. Both are 230 x 3 mm steel discs with large review files. The hub shape and the price differ, so the part numbers are different discs. Neither is the inox part 2 608 600 711.
