Best DeWalt router

Updated: October 2026

A best DeWalt router for a door edge is a different machine from the one for a stopped groove. Our [DeWalt router comparison](/hub/routers/dewalt-router) keeps ten amazon.co.uk listings, and nine are not DeWalt. This page, from the Products Compared editorial team on 16 October 2026, names one pick for light cordless work and one for plunge work, and who should skip each. We used the listings and DeWalt’s UK pages. There was no lab test. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. The [buying guide](/hub/routers/dewalt-router/sub/dewalt-router-buying-guide) is the order of checks. Batteries and 20 V titles are on the [18V XR page](/hub/routers/dewalt-router/sub/dewalt-router-18v-xr).

Best depends on the cut

Stars put a 5.0 from one review above a 4.3 from 47, and they put an 800 W palm tool beside a half-inch plunge router. That sort does not tell you how the cutter enters the wood. Name the job, then the pick, then who should leave it. Light edges, with 18V packs already owned, can be a small fixed base. A groove in the middle of a board, a half-inch bit, or a worktop template cannot. Only the DCW620 class is in this amazon set, and only as a bare body. One winner cannot be both tools.

If you already own packs and only trim

For edges, chamfers, and hinge recesses, the strongest file here is the TOPWAY, ASIN B0F49CQ4BJ, at £49.99. It is the top pick on our scores and the best value among the palm listings: the lowest price with at least 20 reviews, a named collet, and UK reviews that say a DeWalt pack runs it. The listing is 4.3 from 47 reviews, 1.74 kg, fixed base, no battery. The bullet claims a quarter inch, 6 mm, and 8 mm. Those are three shanks. Skip it for a plunge, a half-inch cutter, or a DeWalt warranty. UK reviews mention poor spanners and one slipped cutter, so tug the bit on scrap first. Bits are not in the included-components line. If the cutter must enter the face, the plunge and trim page is the geometry, and you need the next machine.

If the cut must plunge

The only DeWalt plunge router in this set is the DCW620B, ASIN B0D484Q8QN, at £324.98, tool only. It is 4.7 from 175 reviews, with a stated 2.25 hp and a three-position turret. DeWalt’s UK kit page lists a 70 mm plunge, a 63 mm maximum cutter, and 6.35 mm and 12.7 mm collets. This amazon file does not repeat the collet or the speed. The item weight is 5.1 kg. DeWalt UK’s 3.6 kg gross is a different line. Do not blend them. Skip it if you only need a round-over, or if you expected batteries in the box. The only UK review says it failed after eight months, so the 4.7 is not a British long-term record. A sink or hob cut-out is a joiner’s job if you have not run a template.

What not to treat as the best

The YWNYT at £72.99 is 5.0 from one review that says it works. The bullet claims an LCD, 49 mm, and 15 bits. The box line names only the router. The Chengsuwei at £47.49 is the cheapest, 4.2 from 8 reviews, and the only UK text says the collet nut would not tighten and the tool was returned. That is not best value. The LIROPAU at £61.99 claims 1,300 W and 3.7 from 58 reviews, then prints power source “ac” on a cordless title. A UK review says it died after about ten uses. The RAYLEEY at the same price says plunge in the spec and palm in the title. None of those is the trim pick or the plunge pick.

Common questions

What is the best DeWalt router for occasional DIY?
For an edge or a hinge recess, with DeWalt 18 V packs already owned, the TOPWAY at £49.99 is the best value in this set. It is not a DeWalt. For a plunge or a large bit, the DeWalt here is the DCW620B at £324.98, tool only. Read the UK review that reports a failure at eight months before you treat 4.7 as settled.
What if I need to plunge, not just trim?
In this comparison the plunge router is the DCW620B. A fixed palm base cannot lower the cutter into the middle of a board. DeWalt’s DCW604 class has both bases on an 8 mm collet and is not one of these ten listings. You can lock a plunge for an edge. You cannot make a trimmer plunge.
Is the highest star rating the best tool?
No. The YWNYT file is 5.0 from one UK review. The DCW620B is 4.7 from 175, mostly not UK reviews. The TOPWAY is 4.3 from 47. Our scores also use review count, whether the listing agrees with itself, UK complaints, and price. One five-star review does not beat a larger file.
Is the TOPWAY a best-value substitute?
Only for light fixed-base work on a pack you already own. UK reviews mention doors, poor spanners, and a slipped cutter. It is not a half-inch plunge router, and the three collets are not one collet. If you still need a battery and a charger, £49.99 is not the finished cost.
Should I skip a 5.0 from one review?
Yes, if you want a best pick. One review can be honest and still say nothing about the fence or the second month. The YWNYT depth and bit claims are not in the included-components line. Read a larger file, including the complaints, before stars choose the router.
Is the DCW620B the kit or the bare tool?
It is the bare tool: batteries required, one DCW620B in the box, £324.98. The kit with two batteries is the DCW620H2-GB on DeWalt’s UK site. The listing says 20 V. DeWalt UK calls that family 18V XR. You are looking at a body and a kit this scrape did not price.
