DeWalt 18V router batteries and 20V MAX titles

Updated: October 2026

You own yellow 18V packs, or a title says 20V MAX and you are not sure you need another battery. A DeWalt 18V router in the UK is an 18V XR tool. The 20 V wording is the other name for that platform, not a voltage you convert. This page is from the Products Compared editorial team on 16 October 2026, from DeWalt’s UK pages and the ten tool-only listings in our [DeWalt router comparison](/hub/routers/dewalt-router). We did not load-test a pack. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. Light work versus a plunge is on the [best DeWalt router](/hub/routers/dewalt-router/sub/dewalt-router-best) page. Collet and base are in the [buying guide](/hub/routers/dewalt-router/sub/dewalt-router-buying-guide).

18V XR on the UK site, 20V MAX on some titles

DeWalt’s UK platform for these routers is 18V XR. It lists packs such as the DCB183, the DCB184, and PowerStack packs including the DCBP034 and the DCBP518. The slider matches. You do not step 18 V up to 20 V, and you do not bin a DCB184 because a title says 20 V. 20V MAX is the label on many US-facing titles for the same family. It is a cell maximum, not UK mains and not a different charger. The DCW620B here is titled 20 V, the voltage field says 20 V, and the price is £324.98. DeWalt’s page for the DCW620H2-GB calls that router 18V XR. Same family, bare body versus a kit.

What DeWalt puts on the DCW620

The DCW620H2-GB kit is sold with two 5 Ah batteries. Collets on that page are 6.35 mm and 12.7 mm. A shop line that says "1/2 inch / 12 mm" has mixed two sizes. The 5.1 kg amazon weight of the bare unit is not DeWalt UK’s 3.6 kg gross. DeWalt says the DCW620 gives more power on PowerStack or FlexVolt, and that PowerStack can be up to 50 per cent above a DCB184. Both lines are DeWalt’s comparison. A half-inch router sags a small pack sooner than a palm trimmer does. That base choice is on the plunge and trim page. The kit and the bare unit are different SKUs. £324.98 is not two 5 Ah packs.

Tool-only is not the system price

Every cordless listing we kept is tool only. The TOPWAY at £49.99 says no battery. So do the JOJOCY, L1NXIXI, and Chengsuwei titles. The DCW620B says batteries are required, included is no, and the box is 1x DCW620B. A “from £47” search is a row of bodies. The charger and a pack are another basket unless you already own them. If you own nothing yellow, add a pack and a charger before you call either figure a kit.

A listed DCB code is not a DeWalt warranty

The RAYLEEY names DCB184, DCB182, DCB180, and DCB181, battery not included. UK reviews of the TOPWAY and one JOJOCY say a DeWalt pack ran that tool. That is not a DeWalt approval. The unbranded LIROPAU at £59.33 says the battery is not included and also says batteries are not required. The £61.99 LIROPAU names packs and prints power source “ac”. Goods should match the description under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. If the body is a DeWalt, use a pack DeWalt names. If it is a compatible palm tool, a UK fit review is only a sign to test, not a warranty.

Common questions

Does the router include a battery?
Not in this set. All ten are tool only. The DCW620B includes the router and says a battery is required. Palm titles say no battery. DeWalt’s DCW620H2-GB, with two 5 Ah packs, is a different SKU from the bare unit at £324.98. Read the included-components line before you compare prices.
Is 20V MAX a different system from 18V XR?
No. DeWalt UK sells this range as 18V XR. 20V MAX is the other label. The DCW620B says 20 V and the UK product page says 18V XR. Your XR pack is the right family. You do not convert the voltage, and you do not need a second charger because the title used the other name.
Which packs does DeWalt name for the DCW620?
The UK kit comes with two 5 Ah batteries. The platform page names DCB183, DCB184, and PowerStack packs such as DCBP518. DeWalt says PowerStack or FlexVolt gives more power, up to 50 per cent over a DCB184 on their comparison. We did not repeat that test. A DCB184 still runs the tool. A small pack fades sooner on a half-inch cutter.
Will any DCB pack run a third-party router?
Do not assume it. UK reviews say a DeWalt pack ran the TOPWAY and a JOJOCY. The long code lists are the seller’s claim, not DeWalt’s warranty. If the housing is not a DeWalt, DeWalt did not build the motor that pack is feeding.
What is a bare unit?
The tool without a battery, and usually without a charger. Every cordless row here is bare in that sense. The DCW620B box is one router. The £49.99 TOPWAY is one palm body. Add the pack you own, or the cost of a pack and charger, before you decide which body is cheaper.
Do I need PowerStack, or is a DCB184 enough?
A DCB184 runs an XR router if you accept the runtime. DeWalt’s extra-power claim for the DCW620 is about PowerStack and FlexVolt, not about a 20 V title. A half-inch cut loads the pack harder than a chamfer. Use a shallow pass on a small pack. Buy PowerStack if you want the pack DeWalt points at for that router.
What if the spec says batteries are not required?
The unbranded LIROPAU at £59.33 says the battery is not in the box and that batteries are not required. One of those lines is wrong. The £61.99 LIROPAU is cordless in the title and “ac” in the spec. Do not guess which sentence you will unpack.
