DeWalt mitre saw for skirting

Updated: 21 October 2026

A DeWalt mitre saw will cut skirting when the board's thickness fits the cutting height and the face lies flat on the table. DeWalt's UK page for the DCS365 puts two sentences together: up to 535 cuts in 82 mm skirting on one 4 Ah battery, and a cross cut of 50 mm by 250 mm at 90 degrees. The 82 mm figure is the board in that runtime claim. The 50 mm figure is the height the blade is claimed to pass. 82 mm is a runtime claim, not a height

Read the two DeWalt sentences as a pair. 535 cuts in 82 mm skirting on a single 4 Ah XR battery tells you how many pieces the maker counted. 50 mm by 250 mm at 90 degrees tells you the opening the blade is claimed to clear. Nothing on that page says the saw will stand an 82 mm board upright and sever it in one pass. Screwfix's DCS365 line is about 250 cuts in MDF skirting of 82 by 15 mm, beside a maximum cross cut of 250 by 50 mm. Laid flat, 15 mm sits inside a 50 mm height. Stood on edge, 82 mm does not. One bundle page cites 200 cuts in 75 by 50 mm softwood and 320 in 18 by 119 mm MDF. Those totals are not a figure you can average with 535. Pack price and runtime sit on the corded or cordless page.

Lay the face so the saw's height can take it

Lay modern 15 mm or 18 mm skirting and most architrave flat, so the thickness is what the blade measures. The limit you then watch is the width: 250 mm on the DCS365 and on the DWS774's stated cross cut. A UK Workshop owner said a DWS774 manages 9 inch skirting. That is one owner, about 229 mm of width, inside a 250 mm claim. The DWS774 manual states 60 mm by 250 mm. The amazon bullets say 62 mm by 250 mm. Screwfix states about 265 mm by 62 mm for the DWS777-GB. The DWS774 bevels to the left only, so you flip the board for the opposite mitre. That sequence is the how to use page.

A mitre makes the board shorter in capacity

A 45 degree mitre eats width. The DWS774 manual's cross cut drops from 60 mm by 250 mm at 90 degrees to 60 mm by 170 mm at a 45 degree mitre. A board that fits the square cut can miss the angled one. Measure the face you are cutting, and try the angle on a scrap of the same board. These saws are single bevel, so a compound mould means flipping the board. XPS shows where the teeth will enter. It does not set the mitre stop or add capacity. Mark internal and external corners on the back of the board before you swing the saw.

Short pieces and long lengths

Skirting returns are short, and the DCS365 reviews say the fences sit too far apart. A small offcut can split, drop between the fences, or catch the clamp. If the return is too short to sit safely, cut it from a longer marked length and let the offcut fall clear. Long lengths need support the saw does not include. One DWS777 review found M8 foot holes rather than M6, so a universal stand still has to match the base. The cordless saw covers ordinary flat skirting when every face fits 50 mm by 250 mm. A profile that must stand taller than 50 mm needs a corded height claim. The DWS777's extra width is Screwfix's figure of about 265 mm, on twelve amazon ratings.

Common questions

Can the DCS365 cut 82 mm skirting?
It can cut the 82 by 15 mm board Screwfix describes if you lay the 15 mm thickness under the blade. Standing the 82 mm face on edge puts the board outside the stated 50 mm height.
Do I stand skirting up or lay it flat?
Lay it so the smaller dimension is the height the blade must clear. Stand it on edge only when that edge is within 50 mm on the DCS365, or within the 60 mm to 62 mm claims on the corded saws.
What happens to capacity at 45 degrees?
On the DWS774 manual, 60 mm by 250 mm at 90 degrees becomes 60 mm by 170 mm at a 45 degree mitre. Cut a scrap at the same angle, including any bevel you add by flipping a single-bevel saw.
Is the cordless saw enough for a whole room of skirting?
It is enough when the boards fit 50 mm by 250 mm laid flat and you already have 18 V XR packs. DeWalt's 535 cuts and Screwfix's about 250 cuts are different 4 Ah tests, so take a spare pack for a full landing.
Will the fence support a short return?
On the DCS365, reviewers say the fences are too far apart, so small pieces split or hit the fence. A short return at a doorway is exactly that piece. Cut it from a longer board, keep it tight to the fence, and let the offcut drop. If it will not sit without your fingers close to the blade, the piece is too short for a freehand hold.
Which of the three has the most height?
The cordless saw's stated height is 50 mm. The DWS774 manual says 60 mm, its amazon bullets say 62 mm, and Screwfix prints about 62 mm of height for the DWS777. None of the three states a height that stands an 82 mm board on edge.
