DeWalt mitre saw buying guide

Updated: 21 October 2026

You have already settled on DeWalt. The choice left is which of the three amazon.co.uk listings will cut the board you have, and which specification rows to ignore before you pay. This DeWalt mitre saw buying guide takes that in order: a socket or an 18 V pack you already own, then the height and width of the cut. The [DeWalt mitre saw comparison](/hub/power-saws/de-walt-mitre-saw) holds the table. On 19 October 2026 the shelf prices were £269.90 for the DWS774-GB, £324.85 for the DWS777, and £333.99 for the bare DCS365N-XJ. Start with a socket or a battery you already own

The first split is the supply, because two of these saws are mains tools and one is a bare cordless unit. The DWS774-GB is listed as corded electric at 230 V and 1400 W, with a 216 mm blade, and £269.90 is the price of the saw named in the included-components line. The DWS774 manual specifies a 13 A fuse in the UK 230 V plug. The DWS777 is also corded, titled at 1600 W and 240 V, at £324.85. The DCS365N-XJ title says tool only. At £333.99 you still need an 18 V XR battery, and no charger is named in that line. Both corded listings still print a row that says lithium-ion batteries are required. That row is not the box. The corded or cordless DeWalt mitre saw page stays on that single question.

Match the cross cut to the board

Capacity is the second decision, and the three sources do not print the same figure. DeWalt states 50 mm by 250 mm at 90 degrees for the DCS365. The DWS774 amazon bullets say 62 by 250 mm, while the DWS774 manual says 60 by 250 mm. The amazon DWS777 file does not print a cross cut at all. Screwfix states about 265 by 62 mm for the DWS777-GB. Blade diameter follows the same split: 184 mm and a 16 mm bore on the cordless saw, 216 mm and 30 mm on both corded saws. Board orientation belongs on the DeWalt mitre saw for skirting page. A DWS773 without XPS, and the 54 V FlexVolt DCS777, are not ASINs in this set.

XPS will not choose for you

All three bullet lists claim the XPS shadow line. Because the feature is on every listing here, it cannot separate them. It does not square the fence, and it is not a depth stop. The DWS774 reviews say there is no depth stop, so dado and lap joints are out.

Rows you should not trust

Set aside a Wood & Metal row. The DWS774 has 612 ratings, the DCS365 has 557, and the DWS777 has 12 ratings with only three review texts in the file. Set aside the 590 W row on the DCS365. DeWalt's UK page for that bare saw does not support it here. Also leave unused a line that quotes 1675 W and a cut of 305 by 77 mm. That is not the DWS777 in this amazon file. On the listing itself, the title says 1600 W and the item type says 1800 W.

Common questions

Should I buy the DWS774 or the DWS777 if both are corded?
Buy the DWS774-GB when you want the complete 230 V saw with 612 reviews at £269.90 and a cut the amazon bullets actually print, 62 by 250 mm. Move to the DWS777 only if you need the wider capacity Screwfix states, about 265 by 62 mm, and you accept 12 ratings and an amazon file that does not print that capacity.
Is the DCS365 cheaper once I already own 18 V batteries?
The saw itself is £333.99 as a tool only, which is more than the DWS774 at £269.90. If an 18 V XR pack and a charger are already on the shelf, you are not buying them again. We have not verified a single battery price, so this page does not invent one.
Do all three have XPS?
Yes. The DCS365 bullets call it an XPS shadow line, the DWS774 bullets call it an XPS shadow system, and the DWS777 bullets call it XPS shadow line cut technology. It is not a tie-break between them. It does not set the mitre stop, and it does not add a depth stop.
Which blade bore do I need?
The DCS365 takes a 184 mm blade, and Screwfix lists a 16 mm bore on that model. The DWS774 manual and Screwfix's DWS777 page list a 216 mm blade with a 30 mm bore. Match the blade to the saw you buy. A spare from the corded saw will not fit the cordless arbor. The amazon tooth counts do not all agree with the retailer pages.
Can any of them cut a dado?
Not with a depth stop, on the evidence in this set. DWS774 reviewers say there is no depth adjustment for dado or lap joints. DCS365 reviewers and one DWS777 review say there is no trench feature.
Why does a corded listing ask for a battery?
The DWS774 and the DWS777 are corded electric. Each listing still contains a row that says lithium-ion batteries are required. That row conflicts with the title. The bare tool in this set is the DCS365N-XJ, and its title says so.
Is 590 W the motor rating of the DCS365?
The amazon technical row prints 590 W. DeWalt's UK page for the DCS365N-XJ, as used for this guide, does not support that figure, and we are not treating it as the motor rating. The saw is an 18 V XR tool.
